  • Purpose: Incorporating simulation modalities into nursing education is known to be effective in enhancing education outcomes. Standardizing the nomenclature of simulation modalities and developing a comprehensive conceptual framework for guiding the development of simulation modules are mandated given the prevalence and disorganization of simulation education. This article, thus, was aimed to summarize literature and propose a conceptual framework for structuralizing simulation education in Korea. Methods: A comprehensive literature review on CINAHL, PubMed, RISS, KISS, DBpia and renowned Korean nursing journals was conducted including articles from 2002 to 2011. Results: The nomenclature of simulation modalities was clarified and summarized. Twenty-eight studies on the effects of simulation education were summarized in a table demonstrating the state of the science in simulation research. In addition, 'a conceptual framework for three-dimensional nursing simulation education' was proposed, described in detail, and diagramed. According to 'the 3D simulation framework', each three axes, i.e., the scope of practice, complexity, and student competency, has three phases in accomplishing a high level of competency. Conclusion: The proposed '3D simulation framework' is hoped to be a theoretical guide in designing a clinical curriculum utilizing simulation and developing detailed simulation modules in clinical practicum courses.

  • This review covers current developments in molecular-based studies of the structure and function of carboxylesterases. To allay the confusion of the classic classification of carboxylesterase isozymes, we have proposed a novel nomenclature and classification of mammalian carboxylesterases on the basis of molecular properties. In addition, mechanisms of regulation of gene expression of carboxylesterases by xenobiotics, and involvement of carboxylesterase in drug metabolism are also described.

  • Postpartum physiological, psychosocial, and economic changes bring with them some disorders of maternal mind and body, so postpartum management has been emphasized to date. After labor, some problems may appear like uterine bleeding, infection, depression and ache in or around joints. Some reports from traditional medical practitioners remark that over 50% of postpartum women have complaints within or around joints. For this study, arrangement of nomenclature, criteria and historical summarization are needed.

  • Because Ceramium fastigiatum Harvey (1834) is a later homonym of C. fastigiatum Roth (1806), a quite different plant from the former, it becomes illegitimate and must be rejected under the Article 64 of International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. For this reason, we suggest to give a new name, Ceramium fastigiramosum Boo et Lee, to the former species, keeping the original specific epithet‘fastigiatum’. The morphology of vegetative and reproductive structures is re-examined. The life history is confirmed as a Polysiphonia-type in laboratory culture.

  • Purpose: Competency-based curriculum has attracted many nursing institutions' attention, pursuing the enhancement of competency and the quality of education. The goal of this study was to not merely scrutinize the nomenclature of competency and competency model as a concept of pedagogy as well as nursing science, but also form a well understanding of development process for nursing competency-based curriculum and nursing competency modeling. Methods: A comprehensive review on related literatures was conducted in each section of 1) competency-based curriculum, 2) competency and competency model, and 3) contents of competency. Results: The nomenclature of competency including nursing competencies, competency modeling and competency-based curriculum were clarified and summarized. Through analyzing and reviewing former studies related to competency, desirable nursing competency modeling and nursing competency-based curriculum were proposed and described. Conclusion: Learner-centered curriculum should be established based on nursing education that emphasizes intellectual skills acquisition and the enhancement of future-oriented professionalism. Competency modeling should reflect the fact that teaching-learning strategies should focus on the integration of nursing theories and clinical practices. Nursing competency modeling is essential in order to develop a genuine competency-based curriculum while in-depth practical research should be followed so that nursing theories and clinical practices work together in a coordinated fashion.

  • This project was undertaken to compare the Korea Food Standards Code, Food Additives Code and Codex Food Category System and to propose necessary measures to improve the regulatory system of food additives which are scientifically reasonable and harmonizable with international standards. Current food grouping and nomenclature in Korea were specifically compared with the Codex Food Category System and measures to solve any problems in connection with the use of additives in traditional foods were attempted. Among the food commodities in the Korea Foods Standards Code, 8 food groups including Korean confections, semisolid starchy syrups, bean curds and starch gels, edible oils and fats, tea beverages, seasoning foods, kimchi and salted vegetables, and ginseng products were chosen to propose some improvement measures to harmonize the classification, nomenclature, definition and use of additives with the Codex standards.

  • Aspergillus, Penicillium, and their teleomorphic genera have a worldwide distribution and large economic impacts on human life. The names of species in the genera that have been reported in Korea are listed in this study. Fourteen species of Aspergillus, 4 of Eurotium, 8 of Neosartorya, 47 of Penicillium, and 5 of Talaromyces were included in the National List of Species of Korea, Ascomycota in 2015. Based on the taxonomic system of single name nomenclature on ICN (International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants), Aspergillus and its teleomorphic genera such as Neosartorya, Eurotium, and Emericella were named as Aspergillus and Penicillium, and its teleomorphic genera such as Eupenicillium and Talaromyces were named as Penicillium (subgenera Aspergilloides, Furcatum, and Penicillium) and Talaromyces (subgenus Biverticillium) in this study. In total, 77 species were added and the revised list contains 55 spp. of Aspergillus, 82 of Penicillium, and 18 of Talaromyces.
