If the bond strength is sufficient to resist orthodontic force, orthodontic brackets can be bonded to restorations. Orthodontic brackets were bonded to composite resin and glass ionomer cement restorations with no-mix adhesive or glass ionomer cement. The shear bond strength of adhesives bonded to restorations was studied in vitro. Orthodontic brackets were bonded to 10 extracted natural teeth, 40 composite resin restorations and 40 glass ionomer restorations. The surfaces of composite resin restorations were roughened or applied with bonding agent (Scothbond) after surface roughening. The surfaces of glass ionomer cement restorations were conditioned with acid etching or applied with Scotchbond to etched surface. The adhesive was no-mix resin or glass ionomer cement. The shear bond strength was measured. The results were as follows: 1. Orthodontic brackets could be bonded to composite resin restorations effectively as they could be bonded to acid etched enamel with no-mix adhesive. The shear bond strength was sufficient to resist orthodontic force and was not affected by bonding agent greatly. 2. The shear bond strength of no-mix adhesive bonded to acid etched glass ionomer cement restorations was sufficient to resist orthodontic force. However. the fracture risk of glass ionomer cement restorations was increased during debonding. The bonding agent couldn't increase the shear bond strength greatly. 3. The shear bond strength of glass ionomer cement bonded to glass ionomer cement restorations was lower than that of no-mix adhesive. The shear bond strength was sufficient to resist orthodontic force and was greatly decreased by bonding agent. 4. The shear bond strength of glass ionomer cement bonded to composite resin restorations was too low to resist orthodontic force.
Eighty - eight recently extracted teeth were used to evaluate the leakage characteristics of the following retrofilling materials; amalgam, zinc oxide eugenol cement, glass - ionomer cement, and cermet glass - ionomer cement. Root canals were prepared with step - back method and obturated with gutta percha and zinc oxide eugenol sealer. Root apex were resected 2 mm from apex and class I cavities were prepared with 2 mm or 4 mm depth. The cavities were filled with above materials. After application of varnish on all surface except resected surface, the roots were placed in 1 % methylene blue solution for 6 days. After longitudinal polishing to expose cental parts of filled materials, penetrated depths of dye were measured. The results were as follws. 1. As retrofilling material, glass ionomer cement filling groups showed less leakage than the other groups except zinc oxide eugenol cement filling group(p<0.01). 2. Amalgam filling groups had greater leakage than zinc oxide eugenol cement filling group(p<0.01). 3. 4 mm depth of retrofilled cavity had no effect on leakage characteristics compared with 2 mm depth cavity(p>0.05). 4. Glass ionomer cement and cermet glass ionomer cement filling groups showed less apical leakage than amalgam filling groups. But there was no statistical significance(p>0.05). 5. There was no difference in apical leakage between glass ionomer cement filling groups and cermet glass ionomer cement filling groups(p>0.05).
This is a study on the effect of the dentinal pretreatment method to the bond strength between dentin and glass ionomer cement. In this study, 196 human molar teeth with sound crown were used. The dentin surfaces of these teeth were exposed with wet trimmer and polished with # 800 Emory paper and teeth were divided into 7 groups according to the pretreatment agent and method. Each group has 4 subroups of the kinds of glass ionomers. The shear bond strength were measured by Instron Universal Testing machine model 1122. The data of the evaluations were then subjected to statistical analysis using one way ANOVA and the result were as follows : 1. In Durelon liquid 20 sec scrubbing & Vitrebond filling subgroup, shear bond strength was highest with measurements of 72.41(kg/$cm^2$) and in no pretreatment & Shofu lining cement filling subgroup, lowest with measurements of 4.77(kg/$cm^2$). 2. In no pretreatment group, statistical significant differences were found between the subgroups of G-C lining cement and Shofu lining cement. 3. In Ketac conditioner 20 sec scrubbing group, Vitrebond were bonded stronger than others, and in Ketac conditioner 10 sec passive contact group, it has the significant difference with other glass ionomers except G-C lining cement. 4. The subgroup og G-C dentin conditioner 20 sec scrubbing & G-C lining cement filling was bonded to dentin stronger than the subgroup of no pretreatment & Shofu lining cement. In G-C dentin conditioner groups, both of 10 sec passive contact and 20 sec scrubbing, Vitrebond has highest bond strength among the subgroups. 5. The subgroup of Durelon liquid 10 sec passive contact & G-C lining cement filling was bonded to dentin stronger than the subgroup of no pretreatment & Shofu lining cement. Also in both Durelon liquid groups, Vitrebond were bonded to dentin with the highest strength among the subgroups.

Cement is the most widely used but generates a lot of CO2, so we need a material to replace it. Using industrial by-products such as Silica Fume(SF), Blast furnace Slag(BS) and Fly Ash(FA) bring some advantages including CO2 reduction and resource recycling. However, there is a limit to improve performance when using only one material. Therefore, the synergy effects of No cement binary mortar and ternary mortar were analyzed and compared. As a result, No cement ternary mortar had the strength higher than binary mortar. among ternary mortars, the specimen mixed 50% of BS had the highest strength. However, when SF was mixed by 20%, the flowability reduces. so 10% of SF, 40% of FA and 50% of BS is considered as the optimal mixing ratio.
An experimental study was carried out to investigate the strength implovlng effect of stone dust in no fines concrete. The cement aggregate ratios of 1:6, 1:8 and 1:10 and several water-cemment ratios between 30% and 56% were chosen for the mix design of no-fines concrete. For the no-fines concrete with stone dust, the weight ratio of cement to stone dust 1:1 was adopted and super plasticizer, 1.5% of cement in weight, was used to obtain proper and workable state of concrete. The compressive and tensile strength test were performed and the results for the different mix designs were compared with each other. The results show that the compressive strength of no-fines concrete can be improved by 38% and the tensile strength by 17%~72% for the same w/c, when the same weight of stone dust as cement is mixed together.

This study, as part of a study to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the cement industry, compared and analyzed microhydration heat and strength characteristics of no-cement composites using blast furnace slag powder as a binder and CaO, CaCl2, Ca(HCOO)2 and Ca(NO3)2 as alkali activators. As a result of the evaluation, considering the strength, it is judged appropriate to use CaO, CaCl2 and Ca(NO3)2.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength between composite resin and glass ionomer cement according to surface treatment methods of glass ionomer cement. Sixty round acrylic cylinders were fabricated. And then, a round undercut cavity(8 mm diameter, 2.5mm depth) was prepared in the center of the every acrylic cylinder. After all cavities were restored by using light-cured glass ionomer cement. A total of sixty acrylic cylinders restored with glass ionomer cement were divided into 4 groups according to surface treatment methods of glass ionomer cement. The surface treatment of each group were as follows : control group : no treatment Group 1 : acid etching Group 2 : sandblasting Group 3 : air-podwer abrasive polishing The composite resin was bonded to glass ionomer cement of each specimens. And the shear bond strength was tested with a universal testing machine at a cross-head speed of 1mm/min and 500kg in full scale. The results were as follows : 1. The sandblasting group(group 2) had the highest shear bond strength with $272.50{\pm}24.96\;kg/cm_2$ and the acid etching group(group 1) had the lowest shear bond strength with $192.89{\pm}29.32kg/cm_2$. 2. The no treated group(control group) had higher shear bond strength than acid etching group(group 1) (p<0.05). 3. The sandblasting group(group 2), air-powder abrasive polishing group(group 3) and no treated group(control group) had higher shear bond strength than the acid etching group(group 1) (p<0.05). 4. The sandblasting group(group 2) and air-powder abrasive polishing group(group 3) had higher shear bond strength than the no treatment group(control group), but there was not significant(p>0.05).

PURPOSE. The present study aims to analyze the effect of abutment neck taper and types of cement on the amount of undetected remnant cement of cement-retained implant prostheses. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three neck taper angles (53°, 65°, 77°) and three types of cement (RMGI: resin-modified glass ionomer, ZPC: zinc phosphate cement, ZOE: zinc oxide eugenol cement) were used. For each group, the surface percentage was measured using digital image and graphic editing software. The weight of before and after removing remnant cement from the abutment-crown assembly was measured using an electronic scale. Two-way ANOVA and Duncan & Scheffe's test were used to compare the calculated surface percentage and weight of remnant cement (α = .05). RESULTS. There were significant differences in remnant cement surface percentage and weight according to neck taper angles (P < .05). However, there were no significant differences in remnant cement surface percentage and weight on types of cement. No interaction was found between neck taper angles and types of luting cement (P > .05). The wide abutment with a small neck taper angle showed the most significant amount of remnant cement. And the types of luting cement did not influence the amount of residual cement. CONCLUSION. To remove excess cement better, the emergence profile of the crown should be straight to the neck taper of the abutment in cement-retained implant restoration.
The degree of conversion of composite resin was known to have influence on the mechanical properties of composite materials such as hardness, strength, wear resisitance, dimensional and color stability. Also unreacted monomer was reported to be harmful to the pulp. So the degree of conversion was a very important factor in the success of composite resin restorations. In recent, the dual cure resin cement was developed with the advocations that it could increase the curing rates in the sites where the curing ligt could not reach. Moreover many manufactors added some adhesive components in the resin cement. This study was undertaken to observe the effects of curing depth and light curing times on the degree of conversion of dual cure resin cements. CR INLAY CEMENT, DUAL CEMENT and OPTEC BOND, by the Fourier transform Infrared analysis, changing the curing depth 1mm, 2mm and 3mm, and varying the light curing time 20 seconds, 40 seconds and 80 seconds at each depth. The cytotoxicity of dual cure resin cements was tested by the in vitro MTT method using L929 cell. The results was evaluated and compared statistically. The results were obtained as follows : 1. The dual cure resin cements reavealed various degree of conversion, CR INLAY CEMENT and DUAL CEMENT had a tendency to be more reactive to the light cure and OPTEC BOND was a more chemical one. 2. CR INLAY CEMENT and DUAL CEMENT showed the lowest degree of conversion in 2 mm depth, and in 3mm depth the degree of conversion increased, which were due to the chemical cure of dual cures, but OPTEC BOND showed decreasing degree of conversion with increasing curing dept h and all experimental groups showed lower degree of conversion than CHEMICAL group which cured in dark room with no light, so the weak light-curing of dual cure resin cement prevented the chemical cure. (P<0.05) 3. CR INLAY CEMENT and DUAL CEMENT showed increasing degree of conversion in 1 mm and 3 mm, according to the increasing cure times, but in 2 mm depth the degree of conversion decreased with increasing light-curing times and OPTEC BOND showed contrary tendency, but there was no ststistical importance in the differences among the experimental group.(P>0.05) 4. The optical density by MTT assay of extractions of CR INLAY CEMENT, DUAL CEMENT and OPTEC BOND revealed no statitically important differences comparing with optical density of negative control.(P>0.05) 5. CR INLAY CEMENT showed a tendency of increaing cytotoxicity with days and DUAL CEMENT and OPTEC BOND showed higher cytotoxicity in 2 days than in 4 days, but there was no statistical importance in the differences.(P>0.05).
The purpose of this study was to measure the retentive force of various kinds of dental cement. Cross-cutting the half of the occlusal surface, pinholes were prepared on the dentin with No. 557 carbide bur. No. 557 steel burs were cemented in the pinholes and retentive force was measured by removing the burs with Instron testing machine. The Instron testing machine was operated at a rate of 0.2 cm per minute. The following results were obtained : 1. The retentive force of zinc phosphate cement(A), reinforced zinc oxide and eugenol cement and polycarboxylate cement were similar to each other, but that of zinc phosphate cement (A) was the highest of all. 2. The retentive force of zinc phosphate cement (B) was the lowest of all.
