Thermoplastic aceton-formaldehyde resin adhesive was added as a modifier for urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive and its effects on plywood smear strength and wood failure were investigated. The results are summarized as follows: 1) The plywood shear strength and wood failure showed the highest values at $120^{\circ}C$ of hot plate temperature, but the values decreased according to the rise of addition ratio of aceton resin. 2) The variation of molar ratio of aceton resin had no effect on plywood shear strength and wood failure. 3) The plywood bonded by the addition of aceton resin showed lower values than those of urea resin bonding plywoods in shear strength and wood failure. Therefore, aceton resin was inadequate as a modifier of urea resin adhesive.
Objectives: This report presents a case using acupuncture and moxibustion to treat postoperative adhesive small bowel obstruction. The abdomen X-ray also showed rapid improvement. No adverse effect was observed during the nine days of hospitalization. Conclusions: This report demonstrates that acupuncture and moxibustion may be effective in treating adhesive small bowel obstruction. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings.
A low density polyethylene(LDPE) was examined as an additive in phenol-formaldehyde(PF) resin adhesive for bonding radiata pine plywood. The LDPE was supplied by the commercial manufacturer. The LDPE was compared to a commercial filler commonly used in structural plywood adhesives in the United States. The adhesive mixes were made by following the recommended procedure of Georgia-Pacific Resins Inc.. using plywood-type PF resin. A total of 48 three-ply plywoods. 6.3 mm nominal thickness and 30 by 30 em in size, were made at two press times (4 and 5 min). two press temperatures (150 and $160^{\circ}C$) and 30 minute assembly times for four adhesive mixing types. Evaluations of the LDPE addition were carried out by performance tension shear tests after two cycle boil aging tests on plywood per the U.S. Product Standard PS I-83. After accelerated-aging tests. plywoods were exhibited no delamination. The test results included tension shear strength and estimated wood failure values. The plywood test results support the use of polyethylene as an additive in plywood adhesives.

In this study, wheat starch adhesive was investigated the shape and structure of starch, the difference in characteristics such as chemical composition according to the fermenting period of 2 years or less. The fermenting period of wheat starch adhesive is 1 month, 2months, 4 months,6 months, 1 year, 2years old. The wheat starch adhesives were investigated total sugar contents, protein contents, properties of gelatinization, pH, the bonding strength and also observed the surface of starch,. As a result, the longer the fermenting period, the increasing in total sugar contents and decreasing in protein contents. The particle shape and surface were similar regardless of the period. In addition, properties of gelatinization according to the fermenting period also could not see the difference. In pH of the adhesive, the longer the fermenting period, the near to neutral. The adhesive was high bonding strength in 4 months, but appeared a tendency to decrease from 6 months. The damage assessment through the UV degradation in regard to the papers applied the adhesive was accomplished. Color difference was no change except 1 month. The 4 months and 6 months' pH was each 5.0, 5.2. But it was near to neutral that the 12 months and 24 months' pH was each 5.7, 5.9.
This study was carried out to manufacture bark board from oak bark by new processes and to examine the physical and mechanical properties of the board. This process with no addition of adhesive used higher pressure and temperature than the conventional one and was applied with or without paraformaldehyde. The results are as follows: 1. The new manufacturing process allowed a good bark board with high absorption coefficient. 2. The best manufacturing process for the mechanical properties of bark board was paraformaldehyde 10%-$250^{\circ}C$-100kg/$cm^2$-3 minutes, (bending strength 40kg/$cm^2$, internal bonding strength 2kg/$cm^2$) and the best manufacturing process for both the mechanical properties of bark board and economic point of view was $250^{\circ}C$-100kg/$cm^2$-3 minutes (bending strength 28kg/$cm^2$, internal bonding strength 1.52kg/$cm^2$). 3. Bark board showed specific gravities from 0.94 to 1.03 and air dried moisture content 9.2% to 11.7%, but Bark board needed paraffin wax emusion treatment. 4. The absorption coefficient of bark boards had two peaks along with frequency; one in 200-400 cps, the other 1200-2000 cps. The former was low but the latter great.
PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to evaluate the early adhesive characteristic of asphalt emulsions, including polymer-modified emulsions, for chip seals using the surface energy concept, the bitumen bond strength (BBS) test, and the Vialit test. METHODS : Two general methods, the BBS test and Vialit test, were applied to investigate the bond strength and the aggregate loss, respectively. A new theory, the surface free energy (SFE) theory, was used to evaluate the adhesive characteristic between the emulsion and the aggregate. Based on the theory, the contact angles were measured, and then the surface energy components were calculated. Using those components, the work of adhesion (Wa) was calculated for each emulsion. To ensure reliable results, all the tests were performed under the same conditions, i.e., at $25^{\circ}C$ for 240 minutes of curing time. For the materials, three emulsions (CRS-2, CRS-2L, and CRS-2P) and one aggregate type (granite) were employed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : Under the same conditions, the modified emulsions showed better adhesive characteristics and curing behaviors than the unmodified emulsions. In addition, there was no significant difference between the various modified emulsions. One of the important findings is that the analysis by Wa presents more sensitive results than other methods. The results of the Wa showed that the CRS-2P emulsion has the best adhesive characteristics. Consequently, the use of modified emulsions for chip seals could prevent aggregate loss and allow open traffic earlier.
Several effective treatment methods and materials have been developed for the treatment of furcation involvement. Currently, the combination of guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and bone grafts is the most commonly prescribed method of treating furcation involved defects. But because these cases often present with poor accessibility, placement of the membrane may be difficult and consequently, clinically impractical. In this study, the alveolar bone healing patterns of adult beagle dogs presenting with alveolar bone destruction treated by one of two methods - treatment using solely bone allografts (BBP(R)), or treatment using bone allografts (BBP(R)) stabilized by a fibrin adhesive - were comp ared. The effects of the fibrin adhesive on the initial stabilization of the newly formed bone, subsequent regeneration of bone, and the feasibility of the clinical application of the fibrin adhesive were analyzed. The results of the study were as follows: 1. Clinical signs of inflammation at the 4-8 week interval were not observed: but signs of mild inflammation were histologically observed at the 4-week interval. 2. Allografts stabilized by fibrin adhesive showed good bone formation, whereas defects treated with only the allograft material showed incomplete alveolar bone regeneration. 3. Allografts stabilized by fibrin adhesive showed a decrease in the amount old bone with a concurrent increase in the formation of new lamellar bone four weeks post-op, whereas defects treated with only the allograft material showed no new lamellar bone formation at the same interval. 4. In detects treated with only the allograft material, the defective area was filled with connective tissue 8-weeks post-op, whereas fibrin adhesive stabilized allografts showed viable connections between the original bone and the newly formed bone, in addition to neovascularization 8-weeks post-op. The results of this study show that concurrent use of fibrin adhesive materials can stabilize the allograft material and aid in new bone formation Although the stability of fibrin adhesives fall short of the results achievable by GTR membranes, in cases presenting with poor accessibility that contraindicate the use of membranes, fibrin adhesive materials provide a viable and effective alternative to graft stabilization and new bone formation.

Objectives: The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the effectiveness of collagen cross-linking agents (CCLAs) used in combination with the adhesive technique in restorative procedures. Materials and Methods: In this systematic review, the authors followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist. An electronic search was performed using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, LILACS, and DOSS, up to October 2020. The gray literature was also researched. Only randomized clinical trials were selected. Results: The selection process yielded 3 studies from the 838 retrieved. The addition of CCLAs in the retention of restorations increased the number of events. The postoperative sensitivity scores and marginal adaptation scores showed no significant difference between the CCLA and control groups, and the marginal pigmentation scores showed a significant increase in the CCLA group. There were no caries events in any group throughout the evaluation period. Conclusions: This systematic review showed that there is no clinical efficacy to justify the use of CCLAs in the protocols performed.
Adhesive tapes can be conveniently used for various applications by combination of materials requiring diverse mechanical strength and specific adhesives. Duct tape is usually readily available and one of the most widely used adhesive tapes. Duct tapes are composite materials with good mechanical strength consisted of fiber material, which is different from other tapes. In addition, electrical insulation tapes are used for very long period of time for insulating cables, and are also used for reinforcement of mechanical strength and increasing damping of cable in practice. Recently, variety of foam tapes and double-sided tapes are widely used in diverse applications. However, there is no previous work readily available clearly illustrating noise isolation performance of tapes. In present work, noise isolation performance of tapes is presented by measurement of insertion loss of variety of tapes on a small hole. Double-side foam tapes presented the best noise isolation performance among adhesive tapes measured in present work.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of salt formation on the percutaneous absorption of meloxicam through hairless mouse skin from a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) matrix. In addition, the influences of enhancers on the permeation of meloxicam or meloxicam-ethanolamine (MX-EA) salts across the hairless mouse skin were evaluated using a flow-through diffusion cell system. The salt formation of meloxicam resulted in lower permeation rate than the parent drug. $Span^{(R)}$ 80 provided the highest enhancing effect for meloxicam and meloxicam monoethanolamine salt. The maximum amount of the drug that can be loaded without retarding permeation rate was different depending on the compound. No relationship was found between the fluxes of meloxicam or MX-EA salts from saturated solutions and those from PSA matrices containing the same enhancer.
