촉매 압출성형에서 많이 쓰이는 바인더로 PVA(Polyvinyl Alcohol)와 MC(Methyl Cellulose), CMC(Carboxymethyl Cellulose)가 있다.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown with high density on a large area of Ni-coated silicon oxide substrates by using an inductively coupled plasma-chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD) of $C_2H_2$ at temperatures ranging from 600 to $700^{\circ}C$. The Ni catalyst was formed using an RF magnetron sputtering system with varying the operating pressure and exposure time of $NH_3$ plasma. The surface morphology of nickel catalyst films and CNTs was examined by SEM and AFM. The graphitized structure of CNTs was confirmed by Ramman spectra, SEM, and TEM. The growth of CNTs was observed to be strongly influenced by the surface morphology of Ni catalyst, which depended on the pre-treatment time and growth temperature. Dense CNTs with uniform-sized grains were successfully grown by ICP-CVD.

  • A stainless steel autoclave reactor, which is the property of Pacific Northwest Laboratories(PNL) and located in PNL, was acted for pyrolysis and gasification of sawdust, ricestraw, and ricehusk. The initial reaction temperature of this reactor was 300$^{\circ}C$, and up to 500$^{\circ}C$ to complete pyrolysis and gasification reaction. The maximum exerted pressure on this reactor was 800 psig. In order to examine the effect of catalyst on reaction temperature, $K_2CO_3$, and nickel/alkali carbonate catalyst mixture were also used. The experimental results obtained with this reactor indicated that good yields of methane-rich gas(exceeding 40% methane) can be produced. The product gas mixtures were also identified to be CO. $CO_2$, $C_2H_4$, and $CH_3CHO$ etc. by Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometer.

  • The objective of this paper is to describe the experimental and numerical investigation of the analysis of the heat transfer in a solar chemical reactor. These are compared about methane steam reforming process in the solar chemical reactor which was a volumetric absorber consisting of honeycomb and a multilayered catalyst supports. With this high operating temperature, convective heat loss, thermal fracture are important features for designing SCR. In order to estimate the system performance and to design the actual solar reactor with various conditions, CFD analysis was used in this study. The nickel oxide porous metal is inserted inside the solar chemical reactor to increase the conversion rate of the reforming reaction. Simulation has been carried out based on the experimental data. According to the simulation results, the optimum methane-steam mole ratio and thickness and numbers of catalyst supports were obtained.

  • Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is one of the various synthesis methods that have been employed for carbon nanotube (CNT) growth. In particular, Ren et al reported that large areas of vertically aligned multi-wall carbon nanotubes could be grown using a direct current (dc) PECVD system. The synthesis of CNT requires a metal catalyst layer, etchant gas, and a carbon source. In this work, the substrates consists of Si wafers with Ni-deposited film. Ammonia $NH_3$) and acetylene ($C_2H_2$) were used as the etchant gases and carbon source, respectively. Pretreated conditions had an influence on vertical growth and density of CNTs. And patterned growth of CNTs could be achieved by lithographical defining the Ni catalyst prior to growth. The length of single CNT was increased as niclel dot size increased, but the growth rate was reduced when nickel dot size was more than 200 nm due to the synthesis of several CNTs on single Ni dot. The morphology of the carbon nanotubes by TEM showed that vertical CNTs were multi-wall and tip-type growth mode structure in which a Ni cap was at the end of the CNT.

  • $CO_2$ methanation was performed over Ni supported on cation-exchanged Y zeolites under atmospheric pressure at $250{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ and $H_2/CO_2$ mole ratio of 4. Adsorption strength between carbon dioxide and nickel was found to be Influenced by the cation exchanged in the zeolite. TPD(Temperature-programmed desorption) results show that the adsorption strength decreases in the order of Ni/NaY>Ni/MaY>Ni/HY. TPSR(Temperature-programmed surface reaction) results indicate that enhanced methanation activity is obtained when the adsorption strength between carbon dioxide and nickel is stroing. As the reduction temperature increases, the methantion activity of the catalyst increase. From this result the larger size nickel particle seems advantageous for $CO_2$ methanation reaction. The maximum activity is obtained when nickel loading is 3.3wt%. Carbon monoxide is produced as a by-product throughout the reaction temperature range, and as the contact time increases, the selectivity to methane increases and the selectivity to carbon monoxide decreases steadily. Thus methane seems to be produced from $CO_2$ via CO as an intermediate species. In the temperature range of $410{\sim}450^{\circ}C$, the methane production rate is found to be dependent on the orders of 3.3~-0.5 and 1.4~3.6 with respect to $CO_2$ and $H_2$ partial pressures, respectively. This clearly shows that $CO_2$ and $H_2$ are competing for adsorption sites and as the reaction temperature increases, it becomes increasingly difficult for $H_2$ to be adsorbed on the catalyst surface.

  • Consumption of nickel is continuously increasing and the wastes of secondary battery, ferrite and catalyst containing Ni are also generated periodically. Among those wastes, the aim of this research is the recovery of nickel from used Ni-Cd recharge battery. Battery consisted of Ni 24 wt%, Fe 30 wt% and Cd 18.5 wt%. Metal was recovered by solvent extraction after leaching. Cadmium was leached completely in 1N-HCl and Ni was recovered above 70%. 30 vol% MSP-8 separated Cd and Ni completely from acidic leaching solution. In addition $NH_4NO_3$ as one of ammonium salt type leachants showed an excellent leaching selectivity to Ni and Cd. Ni in leached solution was recovered completely by LIX-extractant and more than 70% of Cd in raffinate was by D2EHPA.

  • Solution plasma is a unique method which provides a direct discharge in solutions. It is one of the promising techniques for various applications including the synthesis of metallic/non-metallic nanomaterials, decomposition of organic compounds, and the removal of microorganism. In the context of nanomaterial syntheses, solution plasma has been utilized to produce carbon nanoparticles and metallic-carbon nanoparticle systems. The main purpose of this study was to synthesize nickel nanoparticles embedded in a matrix of carbon particles by solution plasma in one-step using waste vegetable oil as the carbon source. The experimental setup was done by simply connecting a bipolar pulsed power generator to nickel electrodes, which were submerged in the waste vegetable oil. Black powders of the nickel nanoparticles-embedded carbon (NiNPs/Carbon) particles were successfully obtained after discharging for 90 min. The morphology of the synthesized NiNPs/Carbon was investigated by a scanning electron microscope, which revealed a good dispersion of NiNPs in the carbon-particle matrix. The X-ray diffraction of NiNPs/Carbon clearly showed the co-existence of crystalline Ni nanostructures and amorphous carbon. The crystallite size of NiNPs (through the Ni (111) diffraction plane), as calculated by the Scherrer equation was found to be 64 nm. In addition, the catalytic activity of NiNPs/Carbon was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry in an acid solution. It was found that NiNPs/Carbon did not show a significant catalytic activity in the acid solution. Although this work might not be helpful in enhancing the activity of the fuel cell catalysts, it is expected to find application in other processes such as the CO conversion (by oxidation) and cyclization of organic compounds.

  • A series of catalysts, NiO/$CeO_2-ZrO_2/WO_3$, for ethylene dimerization was prepared by the precipitation and impregnation methods. For NiO/$CeO_2-ZrO_2/WO_3$ sample, no diffraction line of nickel oxide was observed up to 40 wt%, indicating good dispersion of nickel oxide on the surface of catalyst. The hexagonal and monoclinic phases of $WO_3$ up to the calcination temperature of 500 ${^{\circ}C}$ were observed, whereas the hexagonal phase of WO3 completely was transformed into monoclinic phase of $WO_3$ at 600 ${^{\circ}C}$ and above. The role of $CeO_2$ in the catalysts was to form a thermally stable solid solution with zirconia and consequently to give high surface area and acidity. The catalytic activities for ethylene dimerization were correlated with the acidity of catalysts measured by the ammonia chemisorption method. 25-NiO/5-$CeO_2-ZrO_2/15-WO_3$ containing 25 wt% NiO, 15 wt% $WO_3$ and 5 mol% $CeO_2$, and calcined at 400 ${^{\circ}C}$ exhibited a maximum catalytic activity due to the effects of $WO_3$ modifying and $CeO_2$ doping.
