  • Defining the concept of prominent audio content as the most informative audio content from the users' perspective within a given unstructured audio segment, we propose a simple but robust intensity-based attack/release pattern features to detect the prominent audio content. We also propose a web-based annotation procedure to retrieve users' subjective perception and annotated 18 hours of video clips across various genres, such as cartoon, movie, news, etc. The experiments with a linear classification method whose models are trained for speech, music, and sound effect demonstrate promising - but varying across the genres of programs - results (e.g., 86.7% weighted accuracy for speech-oriented talk shows and 49.3% weighted accuracy for {action movies}).

  • At present, a variety of Korean news stories have been about important online content and its importance in the press is becoming higher. Diverse news from businesses are provided to the public as press releases through newspapers or broadcasting media. For such news to become information for a press release, enterprises visit reporters, use e-mails, faxes, or couriers to deliver the information. However, such methods have problems with time, human resources, expenses, and file damage. Also, with these methods it is bothersome for enterprises to check what has been released and for the press to make frequent contact with enterprises for interviews and for content to be released. Therefore, this study aimed to realize a distribution system which enterprises can use to distribute data to be released to the press and to easily check what is to be released while the press can ask for interview requests in a simple way, as well as a news gathering robot that can collects news on the enterprises involved from articles online or in portal sites.

  • This study deals with the effect of online word-of-mouth (OWOM) variables on the box office. From the result of statistical analysis on 276 films with audiences of more than five hundred thousand released in the Korea from 2012 to 2015, it can be seen that the variables showing the size of OWOM (such as the number of the portal movie rater, blog, and news after release) are associated more with the box office than the portal movie rating showing the direction of OWOM as well as variables showing the inherent properties of the film such as grade, nationality, release month, release season, directors, actors, and distributors.

  • The public mostly get the information regarding real estate policy not from the press release of the government but from news articles. This type of information, though, might be delivered in a different frame depending on inclination of media or press. The media runs the articles within its own frame, so that it often conveys either expectation or concern depending on its inclination. This study analyzed the articles regarding 'Agreement to revise three major real estate regulations to perk up property market' and examined how the real estate policy imprinted in them depending on the disposition of the press. The results showed that the conservative press ran articles within a positive frame expressing favorable expectation. On the other hand, progressive press mostly kept neutral or unfavorable tone on the same regulations within the negative frame. Therefore, it was confirmed that there exist different frames within articles depending on their disposition.

  • In this study, we classified and analyzed the type and cause of resident conflicts and made a solution at side of resident through resident survey study for research subjects located at photovoltaic system will be installed or not. The factors of resident conflicts based on news media release from 2006 to 2018 were classified to four types such as economic, environmental, technological and procedural factors. According to the news analysis, the types and proportion of resident conflicts in the photovoltaic system projects showed 33% of economic factors, 32% of environmental factor, 21% of technological factor and 14% of procedural factor. This news analysis may suggest that it is very important residents to share the economic benefits as well as to ensure the fairness of the procedures for carrying out the project based on transparent information disclosure during the business promotion and profit distribution stages. We conducted the poll survey in the rural towns where photovoltaic system will be installed or not. The poll survey results showed that (i) there is quite difference in agreement rate and other recognition for sensitive matters such as profit distribution, environmental and technological factors whether photovoltaic system will be installed or not, (ii) the resident conflict regarding the photovoltaic system installation can reduce through direct involvement of residents process. To solve these resident conflicts, the local governments should mainly effort and consider the supporting technologies and consults to solve clearly resident conflicts. In addition, it has to advertise the safety of photovoltaic systems regarding electromagnetic wave which were within the range of scientifically harmless to the human body.

Social media channels collected detailed social big data from news provided on Naver and Google sites. Data were collected from January 1, 2023 to February 15, 2023, referring to the release date of 'The First Slam Dunk' in Korea. The collected data were 2,106 Naver news data, and 1,019 Google news data were collected. TF and TF-IDF were analyzed through text mining for these data. Through this, semantic network analysis was conducted for 60 keywords. Big data analysis programs such as Textom and UCINET were used for social big data analysis, and NetDraw was used for visualization. As a result of the study, the keyword with the high frequency in relation to the subject in consideration of TF and TF-IDF appeared 4,079 times as 'The First Slam Dunk' was the keyword with the high frequency among the frequent keywords. Next are 'Slam Dunk', 'Movie', 'Premiere', 'Animation', 'Audience', and 'Box-Office'. Based on these results, 60 high-frequency appearing keywords were extracted. After that, semantic metrics and centrality analysis were conducted. Finally, a total of 6 clusters(competing movie, cartoon, passion, premiere, attention, Box-Office) were formed through CONCOR analysis. This study analyzed the press release to identify the factors of damages that can result from boating accidents and derive the demands for technology development to approach from the perspective of marine science technology to avoid the elements of damage. For this purpose, this study analyzed the contents of about 77,000 articles posted for a month after the tragedy of the Sewol (April 16 - May 15) to derive the keywords and used SNA for the network analysis of each keyword. The findings of the analysis showed that there were five networks and each network consisted of different aspects of technology development to prepare for the marine disasters. Based on these findings, this study derived the demands for technology development from the perspective of marine science technology required to prepare for the possible marine disasters caused by vessels in the future.

  • Science reporting is easier to lead to failure than other news reporting because it needs higher professionalism. According to Actor-Network Theory(ANT), not only research results(artifacts) of scientists but also science articles are hybrid networks. Namely, they are connected by human actors(scientist, reporter, etc.) and nonhuman actors(press releases etc.). When the process of science reporting is examined on the view of ANT, it is the process that scientists' results translate the media via press releases as intermediaries and expand their network to the public. This study aims at making an ANT analysis of how research results of Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI) scientist Hyun-Tak Kim were reported by lots of media, focusing on the rhetoric of ETRI's press release. It can reveal the reason for the science reporting's failure and hint at the better science journalism.
