  • Recently, the danger for radioactive materials has become a hot topic. Beginning with the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1996, in 2011, the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan suffered major damage such as large-scale casualties and radioactive dangerous area selection. Concerns about leakage of radioactive materials due to recent earthquakes have been deepening in Korea, such as Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant in Gyeongju, and there is a growing interest in the safety of radioactive materials through the media and the media. However, the route to exposure to radioactive materials is not limited to these large-scale nuclear accidents. Typical examples of this are radioactive substances exposed in daily life. In the case of radon gas, the danger is being revealed through current events programs and news, and natural radiation exposure is attracting attention.

  • This study focused on university students' risk perception of cybercrime through media exposure. For this purpose, I tried to figure out the results of risk perception on cybercrime with 8 factors. As a result, the lowest type of cybercrime was internet fraud, and it was caused by media type and degree of exposure, where university students get information about cybercrime. There's a difference of students' risk perception by media type, news media was the best. Depending on the media of the environment, even in the area of cyber crime there is a difference of perception of risk for each individual. And it can be confirmed that the risk perception in response to the exposure of the media has changed.

  • This thesis provides the design of system software for the management of radiation dose that is generated using computer tomography(CT). Because radiation exposure is different depending on the difference in sensitivity to each part for each of the patient's body, if we will be able to manage an appropriate amount of radiation, it is possible to estimate the radiation exposure of the patient as a result. Recently, radiation leakage incident of Japanese nuclear power plant was in the news internationally and there is a growing interest not only a nuclear power plant, to medical radiation exposure. In spite of the fact that currently safety management of radiation is under control only the workers of the radiation involved, exposure management of patients until now have been required. Surgery and inspection using the radiation in Korea will increase, due to this medical exposure has increased, but it is a reality that medical institution don't know the level of radiation exposure applied to the patient. Therefore a system for managing the radiation exposure of the patient from the medical institution is required. This paper proposes a design of a software program to manage the radiation exposure of CT is an typical imaging tool to use the radiation in the medical institution. By check the amount of radiation dose and set the limit of dose, we would help to optimize the medical exposure of the patient.

A study of advertisement effect according to the context, news type, and advertisement type of social contribution activity article (사회공헌활동 기사 맥락과 뉴스형태 및 광고종류에 따른 광고효과)

  • This study tries to find the differences in attitude towards advertisement and corporate image according to the context of article in web contents, banner advertisement exposure and news type. The findings of this study are as follows. First, interaction effect between the context of Internet article on social contribution activity and attitude towards advertisement was confirmed. When the context of Internet article was negative, the news type that provides a photo with the article was more effective for the attitude towards advertisement. It is estimated that when a photo is provided with an Internet article for social contribution activity, the level of crowdedness increases and accordingly the negative context of the Internet article is cancelled out. Second, interaction effect between news type and advertisement type of social contribution activity article and attitude towards advertisement was confirmed. In the news type that provides a photo with an Internet article, corporate advertisement was more effective for attitude towards advertisement than product advertisement. Third, interaction effect between the news type of social contribution activity and corporate image according to advertisement type was confirmed. In the news type that provides a photo with an Internet article, product advertisement was more effective for corporate image than corporate advertisement.

An Analysis of Filter Bubble Phenomenon on YouTube Recommendation Algorithm Using Text Mining (텍스트 마이닝 기법을 이용한 유튜브 추천 알고리즘의 필터버블 현상 분석)

  • This study empirically confirmed 'the political bias of the YouTube recommendation algorithm' and 'the selective exposure of user' to verify the Filter Bubble phenomenon of YouTube. For the experiment, two new YouTube accounts were opened and each account was trained simultaneously in a conservative and a liberal account for a week, and the "Recommended" videos were collected from each account every two days. Subsequently, through the text mining method, the goal of the research was to investigate whether conservative videos are more recommended in a righties account or lefties videos are more recommended in a lefties account. And then, this study examined if users who consumed political news videos via YouTube showed "selective exposure" received selected information according to their political orientation through a survey. As a result of the Text Mining, conservative videos are more recommended in the righties account, and liberal videos are more recommended in the lefties account. Additionally, most of the videos recommended in the righties/lefties account dealt with politically biased topics, and the topics covered in each account showed markedly definitive differences. And about 77% of the respondents showed selective exposure.

The Effect of Exposure to Misogynistic Words on Explicit and Implicit Attitudes toward Women (여성혐오 단어에 대한 노출이 명시적, 암묵적 여성혐오 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • In Korean society, words related to misogyny are being created and spread out in the Internet communities and the Internet news posts comments. This study was conducted to investigate if exposure to misogynistic words affects misogynistic attitudes toward women. Study 1 examined the relationship between exposure of misogynistic words (the number of misogynistic words known and the level of Internet comments viewed) and explicit misogynistic attitudes. As a result, the greater the exposure of misogynistic words, the less explicit misogynistic attitudes were found among men. The result can be explained as a desensitization of stimuli caused by repetitive exposure to media. In Study 2, experiments were conducted to manipulate the exposure of misogynistic words and to identify the relationship between implicit misogynistic attitudes through implicit association tests. Results of analysis show that implicit misogyny attitude is stronger as male participants are exposed to misogynistic words. The finding of this study suggests that explicit and implicit attitudes toward misogyny can diverge. It also implies that the exposure to misogynistic words can affect men's and women's attitudes in a different manner.

A Proposal to Change Welfare Policy Principles for Agent Orange Exposed Korean Veterans (고엽제 피해자에 대한 국가 보상 현황 및 보훈 정책 원리 수정 제안)

  • Objectives: Agent Orange TCDD has been related to serious diseases among Korean veterans who were exposed to it. Decades after the end of the war, however, its effects are still being debated. The object of this study was to examine various unmet needs raised among Agent Orange exposed veterans and their families and to find grounds of a new welfare policy for providing alternative legislation. Methods: Literatures concerning Agent Orange, TCDD, the associated diseases, compensation for veterans and Supreme Court sentencing were searched using PubMed, ProQuest, press news and relevant homepages. Results: Agent Orange exposed veterans are eligible for various benefits from the government, including disability compensation for diseases associated with exposure. The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs has classified certain diseases into two categories, Agent Orange sequela diseases and sequela suspect diseases and has provided differential benefits based on separated laws. Big differences exist in benefits to veterans and their families between the two laws. The absence of definite standards to classify the Agent Orange associated diseases was confirmed by recent Supreme Court sentencing which ruled in favor of US manufacturers. Conclusion: It appears that the evidence for cause and effect of Agent Orange related diseases would never be perfect. The results suggest a need to change welfare principles from presumptive or indefinite disease basis to exposure experiences combined with integrated disability evaluation. We propose to extend eligibility by enacting a new law for Agent Orange exposed Korean veterans.

Importance of Convenience and Consumer Rights to Information in Internet of Things Shopping: Amazon Dash Button Case Study (사물인터넷 쇼핑의 편리성과 소비자 알 권리 중요도: 아마존 대시 버튼 사례 연구)

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) shopping environment can provide benefits and risks to consumers, including shopping convenience and invasion of consumer rights, respectively. We experimentally tested whether exposure to information regarding the benefits and risks of IoT shopping would elicit changes to consumer perceptions of the importance of shopping convenience and rights to information, as well as shopping intention among young online shopping consumers. The participants (N=218) were randomly assigned into one of two experimental conditions. The control group was exposed to a news article and a video emphasizing the shopping convenience of the Amazon Dash Button service, while the experimental group was exposed to the same news article and video provided to the control group, along with a news article about the judgment of the Munich court that the Dash Button violates German consumer law. We found an interaction effect of experimental condition and time on changes to the perceived importance of shopping convenience and shopping intention. The changes to the perceived relative importance of shopping convenience to consumer rights to information from pre- to post-manipulation differed significantly between the two experimental groups. The results of this study emphasize the importance of providing information on both the benefits and risks of IoT shopping. This was the first experimental study to examine the possibility of the invasion of consumer rights to information in the IoT shopping environment. This study urges researchers, marketers, and policy makers to focus more on consumer rights to information in the newly coming IoT shopping environment.

A Study on the Transference of Headlines and Types of Preferred Headlines in Offline and Online Newspapers

  • With the development of the Internet, the media market is experiencing rapid change. The traditional form of offline newspaper markets, which has created the mainstream news delivery market, have been losing large amounts of power due to the emergence of online media. On the other hand, online media armed with its ability to post breaking news almost as it occurs has increased its influence and popularity at a rapid speed. However, since the exposure time and readership of online newspapers are less than their offline counterparts online media has a high dependence on sensational titles and somewhat exaggerating headlines rather than the objective and recapitulative headlines which are preferred. This paper will examine the function and significance of headlines, and conduct a comparative analysis on contents and forms of the headlines in offline newspaper and online newspaper in order to identify the characteristics of each newspaper. Through comparisons, it examines the types of headlines and the transference of headlines. In addition, it examines the differences in recognition of copy editors according to media in determining the headline, and it illuminates which type of headlines is preferred in order to instigate readers to read online newspapers. The analysis results of title-transferring cases in offline newspaper and online newspapers are that offline newspapers try to convey the contents accurately by making use of an information-transferring headline, while attention-attracting headline or subject-hiding headlines tend to be used for attracting the eye of readers. In addition, analysis results of headlines that are put on the top with a click counts in online newspapers are that attention-attracting headlines are the majority, while subject-hiding headlines that are hardly used in offline newspapers, are well-used in online newspapers. In an interview with copy editors, they responded that offline editors focus on the fact-transference in determining the title, while online editors put the weight on immediacy in the delivery of news and the function of guiding readers.

Effects of Selective Exposure to YouTube Political Videos on Attitude Polarization: Verifying Mediating Effects of Political Identification (유튜브 정치동영상의 선택적 노출과 정치적 태도극화: 정치성향별 내집단 의식의 매개효과 검증)

  • YouTube has rapidly grown as a news media outlet. As political content without fact-checking is actively provided and YouTube algorithms are used for content recommendations, users are selectively exposed to certain political ideologies, which could escalate conflicts among political groups. In particular, the stronger the identification of in-group, the greater the antipathy toward outgroup, and the more exposed the content to the parties that support or oppose it, the stronger the identification or the antipathy can be. This study investigated the relationship between selective exposure and political attitude polarization in the context of political video on YouTube. Based on social identity theory, this study also found that political identification mediates the relationship between selective exposure and political attitude polarization.
