  • We reviewed Korean species of the genus Pimpla and confirmed 12 species. In this genus, 36 species have been reported from the Eastern Palaearctic region, eight species were from Korea. Also, we report four species, Pimpla albociliata Kasparyan, 1974, Pimpla femorella Kasparyan, 1974, Pimpla kaszabi (Momoi, 1973) and Pimpla melanacrias Perkins, 1941, which were newly recorded for the first time from Korea. Among them, Pimpla nipponica Uchida, 1928 is recorded from United States and the Nearctic region for the first time. A key to Korean species of the genus Pimpla, diagnoses and illustrations of adult external structures are provided.

  • Monoraphidium subclavatum (FBCC-A409) of this study clustered in the same clade as Messastrum gracile strains in the 18S rDNA phylogeny. Compared to Messastrum gracile, Monoraphidium subclavatum did not form a colony, and the curvature of the cell was slightly curved or slightly crescent-shaped. This result means that the genus Monoraphidium is still based on the morphospecies concept, and was not monophyletic and not distinguishable as a separate genus. Two Stichococcus-like strains of this study (NIBRCL0000114567, NIBRCL0000114571) belong to Deuterostichococcus epilithicus and Pseudostichococcus monallantoides respectively in phylogenetic analysis using 18S rDNA sequences. These two species are consistent with recent research in the morphology and the genetic analyses using 18S and ITS rDNA sequences. We reported M. subclavatum, D. epilithicus, and P. monallantoides as newly recorded species in Korea.

  • The genus Luidia belongs to the family Luidiidae in the order Paxillosida. It is a common littoral taxon, and the depth range of the Korean fauna is generally 0-100 m. However, specimens of Luidia were collected from Jeju Island in Korea at 150-160 m depth and identified as Luidia sagamina sagamina $D{\ddot{o}}derlein$, 1920. This species is determined by morphological characteristics and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I sequence analysis. Luidia sagamina sagamina is a very rare sea star in worldwide and it only collected previously from Sagami Bay, Japan, and is newly reported in Korea. Four species of Luidia, including L. s. sagamina, are recorded in the Korean fauna.

  • Hypsicera has been reported six species from South Korea. In this study, we reviewed 13 species of South Korean Hypsicera including seven newly recorded species from South Korea. Female of H. brevicornis and H. nigribasis are reported for the first time from South Korea since first record. Additionally, H. incarinata and H. yoshimoboi are reported new to China. We provide diagnoses of six newly recorded species and descriptions of two new females. We also provide photographs of key characters of seven newly recorded species and a key to 13 species of South Korean Hypsicera.

  • Two aerophytic cyanobacteria from the rockwall of Haje port located in Geum river, Korea, were isolated in unialgal cultures and submitted to polyphasic evaluation. The filaments of the populations presented solitary or several to many parallel arranged. The straight trichomes were not attenuated with rounded apical cell. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rDNA sequences indicated that these populations formed the same clade with Wilmottia murrayi and had 99% or greater DNA similarity. Through the ultrastructure of the TEM, these populations showed parietal thylakoid arrangement, which coincides with family Coleofasciculaceae. From the above results, we reported the newly recorded genus Wilmottia, and species W. murrayi in Korea.
