The inelastic behavior of a reinforced concrete columns is influenced by a number of factors : 1) level of axial load, 2) tie spacing, 3) volumetric ratio of lateral steel, 4) concrete strength, 5) distribution of longitudinal steel, 6) strength of lateral steel, 7) cover thickness, 8) configuration of lateral steel, 9) strain gradient, 10) strain rate, 11) the effectively confined concrete core area, and 12) amount of longitudinal steel. A new constitutive model of a confined concrete is suggested in order to investigate the nonlinear behavior of the reinforced concrete columns under concentric loading. The developed constitutive model for the confined concrete takes into account the effects of effectively confined area as well as the horizontal and longitudinal distributions of the confining pressures. None of the existing models incorporated these two main effects at the same time. A total of different six constitutive models for the behavior of the confined concrete under concentric compression were compared with the sixty-one test results reported by different researchers. The superiority of the developed model in its accuracy is demonstrated by evaluating the error function, which compares the weighted averages for the sum of squared relative differences in peak compressive strength and corresponding strain, stress at strain equal to 0.015, and total area under stress-strain curve up to strain equal to 0.015.

Normally the first generation of hybrid is supplied for farm rearing, precise and labor saving sex discrimination is needed. The new strain "Hansaengjam" is sex-limited (female:larval markings, male:no-markings) strain which was bred from both sex-limited strain Japanese originated Jam 153 and Chinese originated strain Jam 154. Productivity test of Hansaengjam during 2007 and 2009 showed high healthiness and cocoon yield. The Hansaengjam is evaluated as an excellent strain from healthiness, cocoon yield and other test results.
This study targets to make clear the connection between MS (Martensite start) point and welding shrinkage. We approved that a Martensite-transformed weldment may not yield state under low MS point, but also admitted the limitation of numerical calculation by inherent strain approach or thermal strain approach. Therefore, new thermal strain formulae during cooling stages were made. As a thermal strain is obtained by integrating thermal extension coefficient, a constant of integration should be decided. In our suggested formulae, the origin was based on totally remained austenite, and added strain from volume changes in Martensite transformation was based on totally transformed ferrite. Through the suggested methodology, It is verified that an MS point under a critical temperature can let weld shrinkage relax and the critical value can be obtained. For supporting this process, 15 weld-consumables were made, were tested by fillet type and were measured. As a result, a positive correlation between MS point and level of weld-distortion was obtained, but it was rather weak.
In the present study, we have studied the bioremediating capability of bacterial strain against six heavy metals. The strain was isolated from river Yamuna, New Delhi which is a very rich repository of bioremediating flora and fauna. The strain was found to be Gram positive as indicated by Gram staining. The strain was characterized using 16s rRNA gene sequencing and the BlastN result showed its close resemblance with the Cellulosimicrobium sp. As each treatment has its own toxicity eliciting expression of different factors, we observed varied growth characteristics of the bacterial isolate and its protein content in response to different heavy metals. The assessment of its bioremediation capability showed that the strain Cellulosimicrobium sp. has potential to consume or sequester the six heavy metals in this study in the following order iron > lead > zinc > cooper > nickel > cadmium. Thus, the strain Cellulosimicrobium sp. isolated in the present study can be a good model system to understand the molecular mechanism behind its bioremediating capabilities under multiple stress conditions.
Recent findings indicate that mechanical strain (deformation) exerted by the extracellular matrix modulates activation of airway smooth muscle cells. Furthermore, cytoskeletal organization in airway smooth muscle appears to be dynamic, and subject to modulation by receptor activation and mechanical strain. Mechanosensitive modulation of crossbridge activation and cytoskeletal organization may represent intracellular feedback mechanisms that limit the shortening of airway smooth muscle during bronchoconstriction. Recent findings suggest that receptor-mediated signal transduction is the primary target of mechanosensitive modulation. Mechanical strain appears to regulate the number of functional G-proteins and/or phospholipase C enzymes in the cell membrane possibly by membrane trafficking and/or protein translocation. Dense plaques, membrane structures analogous to focal adhesions, appear to be the primary target of cytoskeletal regulation. Mechanical strain and receptor-binding appear to regulate the assembly and phosphorylation of dense plaque proteins in airway smooth muscle cells. Understanding these mechanisms may reveal new pharmacological targets for control1ing airway resistance in airway diseases.
FRP-concrete composite slab is consisted of brittle materials and then shows brittle failure mechanism. This study suggests a new design approach that FRP-concrete composite slab leads to ductile failure, and investigates their failure behaviors for two types of section by numerical analysis. Box-type section is higher than I-type section in load capacity to required FRP quantity. Each section was designed so that the strain of FRP plate is 50% to its ultimate strain on initiation of concrete crushing, and it is verified that displacement ductility is more than two. Ductility capacity can be improved by reducing the strain of FRP on initiation of concrete crushing, but as the strain of FRP is reduced load capacity to required FRP quantity is also reduced. Therefore section optimization study is needed considering safety and economical efficiency.
A strain of Azotobacter species was isolated from the surface sea water of Kwang-yang Bay in Korea and was identified as Azotobacter insignis. In order to reveal the natural habitat of this microorganism, growth at various salt concentrations was tested with the result of 3% NaCl beins optimum. Only slight growth was detected in the absence of NaCl. This result was thought to prove (in part) that the natural habitat of the strain dealt with is sea water. Fairly good growth was obtained at 6% NaCl concentration. The study of effects of salt on the growth og this strain to various temperatures and pHs has shown that temperature $30{\circ}C and pH 7.0 are Optimum.
An experimental study has been carried out on square plain concrete (PC) and reinforced concrete (RC) columns strengthened with carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets. A total of 78 specimens were loaded to failure in axial compression and investigated in both axial and transverse directions. Slenderness of the columns, number of wrap layers and concrete strength were the test parameters. Compressive stress, axial and hoop strains were recorded to evaluate the stress-strain relationship, ultimate strength and ductility of the specimens. Results clearly demonstrate that composite wrapping can enhance the structural performance of square columns in terms of both maximum strength and ductility. On the basis of the effective lateral confining pressure of composite jacket and the effective FRP strain coefficient, new peak stress equations were proposed to predict the axial strength and corresponding strain of FRP-confined square concrete columns. This model incorporates the effect of the effective circumferential FRP failure strain and the effect of the effective lateral confining pressure. The results show that the predictions of the model agree well with the test data.
The mathematical model for tension behaviors of a moving web by Shin (2000) is extended to the tension model considering the thermal strain due to temperature variation in furnace. The extended model includes the terms that take into account the effect of the change of the Young's Modulus, the thermal coefficient, and the thermal strain on the variation of strip tension. Computer simulation study proved that the extended tension model could be used to analyze tension behaviors even when the strip goes through temperature variation. By using the extended tension model, a new tension control method is suggested in this paper. The key factors of suggested tension control method include that the thermal strain of strip could be compensated by using the velocity adjustment of the helper-rollers. The computer simulation was carried out to confirm the performance of the suggested tension control method. Simulation results show that the suggested tension control logic not only overcomes the problem of the traditional tension control logic, but also improves the performance of tension control in a furnace of the CAL (Continuous Annealing Line).
In this paper present a new technique (strain-telemetering)for detection of coated tool failure in face milling processes. In the cutter body the strain signals received fro the transmitter is transformed in to frequency modulation(FM) signals in face milling processes. A receiver which is place near by the Vertical milling machine receives the FM signals, then the signals will be sent to a computer which determines whether th tool is failure. And machined surface of workpiece is detected by the SEM. In this paper, A on-line monitoring of the tool failure detection system based on the strain -telemetering apparatus has bee represented.
