  • One specimen of the percophid fish, Pteropsaron evolans Jordan and Snyder and two specimens of the labrid fish, Xyrichtys verrens (Jordan and Evermann) were newly collected from Jeju Island of Korea. P. evolans is characterized by having one pair of spines at snout, cheek without scales, and elongated first dorsal fin in male. X. verrens is easily distinguished by having tip of pectoral fin black, many rows of scales on cheek, and an elongated pelvic fin. We describe as new to Korean fish fauna and propose new Korean names, "Sil-nun-tung-i" for the former and "Jang-mi-ok-du-nol-rae-gi" for the latter.

  • Three specimens of a small sculpin, Icelinus japonicus, were collected from the midwestern coastal waters of the Korean Peninsula firstly. The species is characterized by having two ctenoid scale rows extending posterior end of the second dorsal fin along the dorso-lateral surface of the body, pelvic fin with a spine and two soft rays, and teeth on vomer and palatines. A new Korean name, "Du-jul-bil-neul-hoes-dae", is proposed for the species.

  • One species of the Duplachionaspis, D. divergens (Green, 1899) is newly recorded in the Korean fauna of armored scales (Diaspididae). The characters of this genus and species are here redescribed from Korean specimens. A key to species of Duplachionaspis from the East Palaearctic Region, photographs and information on the distribution and hosts of this species, are also provided.

  • Based on four juvenile specimens of Lutjanus collected from the southern coast of Jeju Island, three species, L. argentimaculatus, L. fulviflamma, and L. quinquelineatus, are described as the first record from Korea. The first species is easily differentiated from other lutjanid juveniles by distinct coloring of the dorsal, pelvic, and anal fins as well as two blue lines below the eye; the second species is characterized by having six yellowish brown stripes below the lateral line and a black spot on the side; the third species is identified by five longitudinal blue stripes and a black spot on the side when fresh. The new Korean names "Bul-geun-tung-dom," "Yuk-seon-jeomtung-dom," and "O-seon-tung-dom" are proposed for L. argentimaculatus, L. fulviflamma, and L. quinquelineatus, respectively.

  • The pandalid shrimp Procletes levicarina (Bate, 1888) was newly collected from the western and southern waters of Jeju Island, Korea. This species is the only known member of the genus Procletes which belongs to the family Pandalidae. Morphological description and illustration with a color photograph of the species are given. With the addition of P. levicarina, the family Pandalidae in Korean waters consists of 10 species belonging to 5 genera.

  • A taxonomic study of Peltigera in South Korea was performed. The phylogenetic analysis based on nr DNA internal transcribed spacer sequences suggests that Peltigera is a well-supported monophyletic group. Important characteristics are the phycobiont type of thallus and the vein type at the lower cortex (wide and flat, or narrow and ridged). The vertical or horizontal arrangement of the apothecia is also important in distinguishing species in this genus. Eleven species of Peltigera were revealed and confirmed, which included one new record, P. elisabethae. A description of each species is presented with morphological, anatomic, and chemical characteristics, and comparisons between similar species are made. A key to the species is also presented.

  • 한국산 자생생물 발굴조사의 일환으로, 해양 녹조류 2종, Caulerpa peltata J.V. Lamouroux 및 Codium geppiorum O.C.

  • The leucosiid crabs are common species on soft sediment from the intertidal flat to shelf and slope depths. The genus Nursia Leach, 1817 is characterized by the pentagonal shape of the carapace and the presence of the buccal cavern on the pterygostomian region. As a result of the systematic study on the Korean brachyuran species, Nursia rhomboidalis (Miers, 1879) is newly recorded in Korean fauna. Korean Leucosiidae is now composed of 14 species belonging to eight genera. The description and illustrations of this species are provided.

  • We report the unrecorded genus and species, Notopygus emarginatus Holmgren, 1857, for the first time from South Korea. The genus Notopygus is a parasitoid wasp of Pamphiliidae (sawfly) that can be distinguished by the posterior margin of metasomal tergite eight, which frequently project strongly upwards. In the study, we provide a description and photographs of newly recorded species.

  • The Aphis solanella, had been classified as a subspecies of Aphis fabae, is currently recognized as a separated species with A. fabae. The A. solanella is morphologically similar to A. fabae and has the same primary host, but there are differences in the range of the secondary host, physiological and ecological traits, so it has been suggested as a separated species. Since it had not been covered when recording the A. fabae at least including three subspecies in 2006 from South Korea, we recently collected and reconfirmed A. solanella in Busan. Therefore, we report the Aphis solanella as a new record with its description and illustrations.
