  • In this paper the new statistical method called "New Modified Triangle Test" is studied. This method is to test the null hypothesis based on the result which comes from evaluating sample size "t", where $t{\geqq}3$, by using Triangle Preference Scale Test. It a confirmed that "New Modified Scheffe's Method 1" can be used for appraising "New Modified Triangle Test". In this report, the weight fraction of in-correct oddity chosen to correct oddity chosen is made 1/2 in terms of chance probability.

  • This paper is to introduce the R&D project called "Improvement of Automatic Gene-ration Control Related Systems for New Energy Management system". The principal objective of this project is to demonstrate AGC operation capabilities that are suitable to new EMS environment and to show the validity of Set-Point Control Method. A number of developments and enhancements have been made to the generator's Remote Terminal Unit in which new ASTC is being developed and installed. The so-called ACC Signal Transfer Card(ASTC) will include RTU's Set-Point Control capabilities. It is expected that over next few months both RTU & DCS software modifications will be given and a relatively new Set-Point Control Method will be chosen instead of those from more conventional method, pulse control method.

  • A new design method of rubble mound structures that includes the considerations of stability and wave control is proposed. Using the method, design of structures that reduce the wave reflection and run-up and increase the rubble stability is assured under the given wave conditions. The new design formula is developed so that the allowable prcentage of damage and the wave grouping effects on rubble stability are also considered in design. For this a new definition of the mean run-sum is made. Finally, the new method is applied for the design of uniform and composite slope rubble mound structures and the significant advantages are found.

  • The study is conducted to study a new, optimum and new and renewable energy application method that can cover the minimum energy and operation costs within a range of school budgets. By deriving the optimum application method, it is expected to maximize the cooling/heating and hot water supply energy saving efficiencies for educational facilities. Therefore, this research implemented a study on the new and renewable energy utilization technique diffusion expansion method and the optimum method. As a result, the first optimum plan was introduced with the multi-type geothermal heat pump 475.6 kW+highly efficient electronic cooling/heating device(EHP) 545.2 kW. On the other hand, the second optimum plan was induced as the multi-type geothermal heat pump 261kW+solar heat collector $240\;m^2$+highly efficient electronic cooling/heating device(EHP) 759.8 kW.

  • The Integrated Force Method (IFM) is a novel matrix formulation developed for analyzing the civil, mechanical and aerospace engineering structures. In this method all independent/internal forces are treated as unknown variables which are calculated by simultaneously imposing equations of equilibrium and compatibility conditions. This paper presents a new 12-node serendipity quadrilateral plate bending element MQP12 for the analysis of thin and thick plate problems using IFM. The Mindlin-Reissner plate theory has been employed in the formulation which accounts the effect of shear deformation. The performance of this new element with respect to accuracy and convergence is studied by analyzing many standard benchmark plate bending problems. The results of the new element MQP12 are compared with those of displacement-based 12-node plate bending elements available in the literature. The results are also compared with exact solutions. The new element MQP12 is free from shear locking and performs excellent for both thin and moderately thick plate bending situations.

  • In this present paper, a semi-analytical mesh-free method is employed for the three-dimensional free vibration analysis of a bi-directional functionally graded piezoelectric circular structure. The dependent variables have been expanded by Fourier series with respect to the circumferential direction and have been discretized through radial and axial directions based on the mesh-free shape function. The current approach has a distinct advantage. The nonlinear Green-Lagrange strain is employed as the relationship between strain and displacement fields to observe thermal impacts in stiffness matrices. Nevertheless, high order terms have been neglected at the final steps of equations driving. The material properties are assumed to vary continuously in both radial and axial directions simultaneously in accordance with a power law distribution. The convergence and validation studies are conducted by comparing our proposed solution with available published results to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of our approach. After the validation study, a parametric study is undertaken to investigate the temperature effects, different types of polarization, mechanical and electric boundary conditions and geometry parameters of structures on the natural frequencies of functionally graded piezoelectric circular structures.

The Method to Calculate the New Course Distance of a Ship by Turning Circle Test Method (선회권시험방법에 의한 신침로거리의 산정방법에 관한 연구)

  • The new course distances of a ship are one of the important factors of the safety handling as the indices to indicate directly her abilities of course alteration. Recently, International Maritime Organization (IMO) exhorts that all vessels should use maneuvering booklets in which are drawn the curves of new course distances obtained from the test of measuring them and noted other maneuvering performance standard in various navigation conditions. This paper describes the method to calculate many new course distances for many rudder angles by turning circle test without observation or using other calculating methods. The main results are as follows: 1) The mean difference of the distances between two new course distances by the turning circle test and heading test of the experimental ship was about 7.7% vaules of the ones by the heading test. when her altering angles were $48^{\circ}$, $63^{\circ}$and $70^{\circ}$, using the rudder angle of $35^{\circ}$ . These new course distances were therefore found to be small in difference of those. 2) The mean difference of the distance between two new course distances by the turning circle test and the maneuvering indices of the experimental ship was about 4.5% values of the ones by the maneuvering indices, when her altering angles were $48^{\circ}$, $63^{\circ}$and $70^{\circ}$, using the rudder angle of $35^{\circ}$, these new course distances were therefore found to be small in difference of those. 3) The mean difference of the distance between two new course distances by the turning circle test and the observation of the experimental ship was about 6.1% values of the ones by the observation, when her altering angles were $48^{\circ}$, $63^{\circ}$and $70^{\circ}$, using the rudder angle of $35^{\circ}$. These new course distances were therefore found to be small in difference of those. 4) It is confirmed that many new course distances for many angles can be calculated easily by using the method of ship's simple turning circle test, without observation or using the maneuvering indices and heading test method. 5) It is considered to be helpful for the safety of ship handling to draw curves of new course distances by turning circle test and $\phi_4$ - $\phi_2 by heading test, and utilize them at sea.

New Acoustic Imaging Method Development for Localization of an Underground Acoustic Source Using a Passive SONAR System

  • The aim of the work described in this paper is to develop a complex underground acoustic system which detects and localizes the origin of an underground hammering sound using an array of hydrophones located about 100m underground. Three different methods for the sound localization will be presented, a time-delay method, a power-attenuation method and a hybrid method. In the time-delay method, the cross correlation of the signals received from the array of sensors is used to calculate the time delays between those signals. In the power-attenuation method, the powers of the received signals provide a measure of the distances of the source from the sensors. In the hybrid method, both informations of time-delays and power-ratios are coupled together to produce better performance of position estimation. A new acoustic imaging technique has been developed for improving the hybrid method. This new acoustic imaging method shows the multi-dimensional distribution of the normalized cost function, so as to indicate the trend of the minimizing direction toward the source location. For each method the sound localization is carried out in three dimensions underground. The distance between the true and estimated origins of the source is 28m for a search area of radius 250m.

  • Wind tunnel test for the 12% scaled model of NREL Phase VI wind turbine was conducted in KARI low speed wind tunnel for $2006{\sim}2007$. The 1st and 2nd test was designed to find out the wind tunnel test method for the blade manufacturing accuracy and surface treatment method by using the composite and aluminum blades. And the 3rd test was designed to study the scale effect. The chord extension method which was used for Bo-105 40% scaled model was adapted for scale effect correction. Test results shows that the chord extension method works well for the torque slope but the maximum torque for scaled model is about 8% below than the real scale model. New correction method to correct this offset was proposed.

  • The railway structure for a rubber-wheeled automated guide-way transit system consists of a driveway and a guide-way. The most important factor of this system is the driveway and the guide-way aligned with each other, especially for curves and inclines section. The conventional construction method caused many problems such as discordancy by constructing the driveway before constructing the guide-way. Therefore, in this paper we introduce a new method of constructing a railway for a rubber-wheeled light rail vehicle; the new method of constructing the guide-way beforehand as a preceding process. The new method for AGT railway system can simplify the construction process and thus the construction costs may be reduced. It should also improve the driving performance and the comfortability in operating of a light rail vehicle.
