  • In this study, nonlinear transverse vibrations of tensioned Euler-Bernoulli nanobeams are studied. The nonlinear equations of motion including stretching of the neutral axis and axial tension are derived using nonlocal beam theory. Forcing and damping effects are included in the equations. Equation of motion is made dimensionless via dimensionless parameters. A perturbation technique, the multiple scale methods is employed for solving the nonlinear problem. Approximate solutions are applied for the equations of motion. Natural frequencies of the nanobeams for the linear problem are found from the first equation of the perturbation series. From nonlinear term of the perturbation series appear as corrections to the linear problem. The effects of the various axial tension parameters and different nonlocal parameters as well as effects of different boundary conditions on the vibrations are determined. Nonlinear frequencies are estimated; amplitude-phase modulation figures are presented for simple-simple and clamped-clamped cases.

  • This study deals with literature review, developing a predicting equation for the ultimate stress of prestressing (PS) CFRP, and experimental test with the parameters affecting the ultimate stress of prestressing CFRF in prestressed concrete beams strengthened by external prestressing. The ACI (American Concrete Institute) predicting equation for the ultimate stress of unbonded prestressing CFRP is analyzed to develop a new integrated predicting equation. The proposed predicting equation takes rationally the effect of internal PS steel into consideration as a function of prestressing tendon depth to neutral depth ratio. In the experimental study, prestressed concrete beams strengthened using external prestressing CFRP are tested with the test parameters having a large effect on the ultimate stress of prestressing CFRP. The test parameters includes infernal prestressing steel and external prestressing CFRP tendon reinforcement ratios, and span to depth ratio. The test results are analyzed to confirm the rationality and applicability of the proposed equation for predicting the ultimate stress of external prestressing CFRP.

  • Objective: This study aimed to validate and evaluate the dry matter (DM) intake prediction model of the Korean feeding standards for dairy cattle (KFSD). Methods: The KFSD DM intake (DMI) model was developed using a database containing the data from the Journal of Dairy Science from 2006 to 2011 (1,065 observations 287 studies). The development (458 observations from 103 studies) and evaluation databases (168 observations from 74 studies) were constructed from the database. The body weight (kg; BW), metabolic BW (BW0.75, MBW), 4% fat-corrected milk (FCM), forage as a percentage of dietary DM, and the dietary content of nutrients (% DM) were chosen as possible explanatory variables. A random coefficient model with the study as a random variable and a linear model without the random effect was used to select model variables and estimate parameters, respectively, during the model development. The best-fit equation was compared to published equations, and sensitivity analysis of the prediction equation was conducted. The KFSD model was also evaluated using in vivo feeding trial data. Results: The KFSD DMI equation is 4.103 (±2.994)+0.112 (±0.022)×MBW+0.284 (±0.020)×FCM-0.119 (±0.028)×neutral detergent fiber (NDF), explaining 47% of the variation in the evaluation dataset with no mean nor slope bias (p>0.05). The root mean square prediction error was 2.70 kg/d, best among the tested equations. The sensitivity analysis showed that the model is the most sensitive to FCM, followed by MBW and NDF. With the in vivo data, the KFSD equation showed slightly higher precision (R2 = 0.39) than the NRC equation (R2 = 0.37), with a mean bias of 1.19 kg and no slope bias (p>0.05). Conclusion: The KFSD DMI model is suitable for predicting the DMI of lactating dairy cows in practical situations in Korea.

  • In this paper, an analytical modeling for the dark and photo-current characteristics of a buried-gate short- channel GaAs MESFET is presented. The presented model shows that the increase of drain current under illumination is largely due to not the increase of photo-conductivity in the neutral region but the narrowing effect of the depletion layer width. The carrier density profile within the neutral region is derived from solving the carrier continuity equation one-dimensionally. In deriving the photo-generated current, we assume that the photo-current is compensated with the thermionic emission current at the gate-channel interface. Moreover, the two-dimensional Poisson's equation is solved by taking into account the drain-induced longitudinal field effect. In conclusion, the proposed model seems to provide a reasonable explanation for the dark and photo current characteristics in a unified manner.

  • The rate constants for the nucleophilic addition reactions of thioglycolic acid and cysteine to ${\beta},\;{\beta}$-dichlorostyrene derivatives(p-H, p-Cl, $p-CH_3,\;and\;p-OCH_3$) were photochemically determined at various pH and a rate equation which can be applied over a wide pH range was obtained. On the bases of rate equation, general base catalysis and substituent effect, the plausible addition reaction mechanism was proposed: Above pH 9.0, the reaction was initiated by the addition of sulfide anion, and in the range of pH 7.0 to 9.0, the neutral molecules and it's anions attacked to the double bond, competitively. However, below pH 7.0, only the neutral molecules of thioglycolic acid or cysteine added to the carbon-carbon double bond.

  • For the effective design of a beam forming structure of the negative-ion-based neutral beam injector, a computer program based on a particle simulation model is developed for the calculation of charged particle motions in the electrostatic fields. The motions of negative ions inside the acceleration tube of a multiple-aperture triode are computed at finite time steps. The electrostatic potentials are obtained from the Poisson's equation by the finite difference method. The successive overrelaxation method is used to solve the matrix equation. The particle and force weighting methods are used on a cloud-in-cell model. The optimum design of the beam forming structure has been studied by using this computer code for the various conditions of elctrodes. The effects of the acceleration-deceleration gap distance, the thickness of the deceleration electrode and the shape of the acceleration electrode on beam trajectories are exmined to find the minimum beam divergence. Some numerical illustrations are presented for the particle movements at finite time steps in the beam forming tubes. It is found in this particle simulation modelling that the shape of the acceleration electrode is the most significant factor of beam divergence.

  • In the present paper, numerical simulations of buoyant plume dispersion in a neutral and stable atmospheric boundary layer have been carride out. A Lagrangian Stochastic Model (LSM) with a Non-Linear Eddy Viscosity Model (NLEVM) for turbulence is used to generate a Reynolds stress field as an input condition of dispersion simulation. A modified plume-rise equation is included in dispersion simulation in order to consider momentum effect in an initial stage of plume rise resulting in an improved prediction by comparing with the experimental data. The LSM is validated by comparing with the prediction of an Eulerian Dispersion Model (EDM) and by the measured results of vertical profiles of mean concentration in the downstream of an elevated source in an atmospheric boundary layer. The LSM predicts accurate results especially in the vicinity of the source where the EDM underestimates the peak concentration by 40% due to inherent limitations of gradient diffusion theory. As a verification study, the LSM simulation of buoyant plume dispersions under a neutral and stable atmospheric condition is compared with a wind-tunnel experiment, which shows good qualitative agreements.

  • The purpose of this research is to study the influence over confidence and Word-Of-Mouth (WOM) effect in the acceptance process of WOM by information characteristics(consensus, vividness, and message neutrality) of individual cosmetic blog, reflecting that it is widely spreading over the public. Online survey for the consumers using such blogs was performed to collect data(N=200), and credibility analysis through Cronbach-${\alpha}$ and Structural Equation Model(SEM) analysis using AMOS 18.0 were performed. The analysis results are as follows; First, vivid information and neutral message increase WOM effect through the improvement of consumers' credibility whereas information consensus doesn't positively influence over credibility. Second, the examination of a moderating effect by type of cosmetics demonstrated that the consumers of basic cosmetics have most confidence in vivid information, and those of color cosmetics do more confidence in neutral message. Therefore, there is a difference in the credibility factor of online WOM depending on the type of cosmetics consumption so that differentiated information provision strategies for cosmetics groups should be established based on it.
