The efficient management of the Length of Stay(LOS) is important in hospital. It is import to reduce medical cost for patients and increase profitability for hospitals. In order to efficiently manage LOS, it is necessary to develop an artificial intelligence-based prediction model that supports hospitals in benchmarking and reduction ways of LOS. In order to develop a predictive model of LOS for acute stroke patients, acute stroke patients were extracted from 2013 and 2014 discharge injury patient data. The data for analysis was classified as 60% for training and 40% for evaluation. In the model development, we used traditional regression technique such as multiple regression analysis method, artificial intelligence technique such as interactive decision tree, neural network technique, and ensemble technique which integrate all. Model evaluation used Root ASE (Absolute error) index. They were 23.7 by multiple regression, 23.7 by interactive decision tree, 22.7 by neural network and 22.7 by esemble technique. As a result of model evaluation, neural network technique which is artificial intelligence technique was found to be superior. Through this, the utility of artificial intelligence has been proved in the development of the prediction LOS model. In the future, it is necessary to continue research on how to utilize artificial intelligence techniques more effectively in the development of LOS prediction model.

Breast cancer is the disease that affects women the most worldwide. Due to the development of computer technology, the efficiency of machine learning has increased, and thus plays an important role in cancer detection and diagnosis. Deep learning is a field of machine learning technology based on an artificial neural network, and its performance has been rapidly improved in recent years, and its application range is expanding. In this paper, we propose a DNN-SVM hybrid model that combines the structure of a deep neural network (DNN) based on transfer learning and a support vector machine (SVM) for breast cancer classification. The transfer learning-based proposed model is effective for small training data, has a fast learning speed, and can improve model performance by combining all the advantages of a single model, that is, DNN and SVM. To evaluate the performance of the proposed DNN-SVM Hybrid model, the performance test results with WOBC and WDBC breast cancer data provided by the UCI machine learning repository showed that the proposed model is superior to single models such as logistic regression, DNN, and SVM, and ensemble models such as random forest in various performance measures.
In this paper, we proposed a face recognition network which attempts to use more facial features awhile using smaller number of training sets. When combining the neural network together for face recognition, we want to use networks that use different part of the facial features. However, the network training chooses randomly where these facial features are obtained. Other hand, the judgment basis of the network model can be expressed as a saliency map through gradCAM. Therefore, in this paper, we use gradCAM to visualize where the trained face recognition model has made a observations and recognition judgments. Thus, the network combination can be constructed based on the different facial features used. Using this approach, we trained a network for small face recognition problem. In an simple toy face recognition example, the recognition network used in this paper improves the accuracy by 1.79% and reduces the equal error rate (EER) by 0.01788 compared to the conventional approach.

Pattern classification extracts various types of pattern information expressing objects in the real world and decides their class. The top priority of pattern classification technologies is to improve the performance of classification and, for this, many researches have tried various approaches for the last 40 years. Classification methods used in pattern classification include base classifier based on the probabilistic inference of patterns, decision tree, method based on distance function, neural network and clustering but they are not efficient in analyzing a large amount of multi-dimensional data. Thus, there are active researches on multiple classifier systems, which improve the performance of classification by combining problems using a number of mutually compensatory classifiers. The present study identifies problems in previous researches on multiple SVM classifiers, and proposes BORSE, a model that, based on 1:M policy in order to expand SVM to a multiple class classifier, regards each SVM output as a signal with non-linear pattern, trains the neural network for the pattern and combine the final results of classification performance.

Indian herbal plants are used in agriculture and in the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries. Laboratory-based tests are routinely used to identify and classify similar herb species by analyzing their internal cell structures. In this paper, we have applied computer vision techniques to do the same. The original leaf image was preprocessed using the Chan-Vese active contour segmentation algorithm to efface the background from the image by setting the contraction bias as (v) -1 and smoothing factor (µ) as 0.5, and bringing the initial contour close to the image boundary. Thereafter the segmented grayscale image was fed to a leaky capacitance fired neuron model (LCFN), which differentiates between similar herbs by combining different groups of pixels in the leaf image. The LFCN's decay constant (f), decay constant (g) and threshold (h) parameters were empirically assigned as 0.7, 0.6 and h=18 to generate the 1D feature vector. The LCFN time sequence identified the internal leaf structure at different iterations. Our proposed framework was tested against newly collected herbal species of natural images, geometrically variant images in terms of size, orientation and position. The 1D sequence and shape features of aloe, betel, Indian borage, bittergourd, grape, insulin herb, guava, mango, nilavembu, nithiyakalyani, sweet basil and pomegranate were fed into the 5-fold Bayesian regularization neural network (BRNN), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), support vector machine (SVM), and ensemble classifier to obtain the highest classification accuracy of 91.19%.

The buffer is a key component of an engineered barrier system that safeguards the disposal of high-level radioactive waste. Buffers are located between disposal canisters and host rock, and they can restrain the release of radionuclides and protect canisters from the inflow of ground water. Since considerable heat is released from a disposal canister to the surrounding buffer, the thermal conductivity of the buffer is a very important parameter in the entire disposal safety. For this reason, a lot of research has been conducted on thermal conductivity prediction models that consider various factors. In this study, the thermal conductivity of a buffer is estimated using the machine learning methods of: linear regression, decision tree, support vector machine (SVM), ensemble, Gaussian process regression (GPR), neural network, deep belief network, and genetic programming. In the results, the machine learning methods such as ensemble, genetic programming, SVM with cubic parameter, and GPR showed better performance compared with the regression model, with the ensemble with XGBoost and Gaussian process regression models showing best performance.

In this paper, we propose a prediction model for osteopenia and osteoporosis based on a convolutional neural network(CNN) using computed tomography(CT) images. In a single CT image, CNN had a limitation in utilizing important local features for diagnosis. So we propose a compound model which has two identical structures. As an input, two different texture images are used, which are converted from a single normalized CT image. The two networks train different information by using dissimilarity loss function. As a result, our model trains various features in a single CT image which includes important local features, then we ensemble them to improve the accuracy of predicting osteopenia and osteoporosis. In experiment results, our method shows an accuracy of 77.11% and the feature visualize of this model is confirmed by using Grad-CAM.

Many researchers make efforts to evaluate water quality using various models. Such models require a dataset without missing values, but in real world, most datasets include missing values for various reasons. Simple deletion of samples having missing value(s) could distort distribution of the underlying data and pose a significant risk of biasing the model's inference when the missing mechanism is not MCAR. In this study, to explore the most appropriate technique for handing missing values in water quality data, several imputation techniques were experimented based on existing KNN and MICE imputation with/without the generative neural network model, Autoencoder(AE) and Denoising Autoencoder(DAE). The results shows that KNN and MICE combined imputation without generative networks provides the closest estimated values to the true values. When evaluating binary classification models based on support vector machine and ensemble algorithms after applying the combined imputation technique to the observed water quality dataset with missing values, it shows better performance in terms of Accuracy, F1 score, RoC-AuC score and MCC compared to those evaluated after deleting samples having missing values.

It is known that bagging and boosting techniques improve the performance in classification problem. A number of researchers have proved the high performance of bagging and boosting through experiments for categorical response but not for continuous response. We study whether bagging and boosting improve data mining methods for continuous responses such as linear regression, decision tree, neural network through bagging and boosting. The analysis of eight real data sets prove the high performance of bagging and boosting empirically.
This paper proposes an efficient data-driven approach to build models for predicting energy consumption in buildings. Data used in this research is collected by installing humidity and temperature sensors at different locations in a building. In addition to this, weather data from nearby weather station is also included in the dataset to study the impact of weather conditions on energy consumption. One of the main emphasize of this research is to make feature selection independent of domain knowledge. Therefore, to extract useful features from data, two different approaches are tested: one is feature selection through principal component analysis and second is relative importance-based feature selection in original domain. The regression model used in this research is gradient boosting regression and its optimal parameters are chosen through a two staged coarse-fine search approach. In order to evaluate the performance of model, different performance evaluation metrics like r2-score and root mean squared error are used. Results have shown that best performance is achieved, when relative importance-based feature selection is used with gradient boosting regressor. Results of proposed technique has also outperformed the results of support vector machines and neural network-based approaches tested on the same dataset.
