Decision class analysis (DCA) is viewed as a classification problem where a set of input data (situation-specific knowledge) and output data (a topological leveled influence diagram (ID)) is given. Situation-specific knowledge is usually given from a decision maker (DM) with the help of domain expert(s). But it is not easy for the DM to know the situation-specific knowledge of decision problem exactly. This paper presents a methodology fur sensitivity analysis of DCA under incomplete information. The purpose of sensitivity analysis in DCA is to identify the effects of incomplete situation-specific frames whose uncertainty affects the importance of each variable in the resulting model. For such a purpose, our suggested methodology consists of two procedures: generative procedure and adaptive procedure. An interactive procedure is also suggested based the sensitivity analysis to build a well-formed ID. These procedures are formally explained and illustrated with a raw material purchasing problem.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to predict the association between nutritional intake and diabetes mellitus (DM) by developing an artificial neural network (ANN) model for older adults. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Participants aged over 65 years from the 7th (2016-2018) Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were included. The diagnostic criteria of DM were set as output variables, while various nutritional intakes were set as input variables. An ANN model comprising one input layer with 16 nodes, one hidden layer with 12 nodes, and one output layer with one node was implemented in the MATLAB® programming language. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to determine the relative importance of the input variables in predicting the output. RESULTS: Our DM-predicting neural network model exhibited relatively high accuracy (81.3%) with 11 nutrient inputs, namely, thiamin, carbohydrates, potassium, energy, cholesterol, sugar, vitamin A, riboflavin, protein, vitamin C, and fat. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the neural network sensitivity analysis method based on nutrient intake demonstrated a relatively accurate classification and prediction of DM in the older population.

The buffer is a critical barrier component in an engineered barrier system, and its purpose is to prevent potential radionuclides from leaking out from a damaged canister by filling the void in the repository. No experimental parameters exist that can describe the buffer expansion phenomenon when Kyeongju bentonite, which is a buffer candidate material available in Korea, is exposed to groundwater. As conventional experiments to determine these parameters are time consuming and complicated, simple swelling pressure tests, numerical modeling, and machine learning are used in this study to obtain the parameters required to establish a numerical model that can simulate swelling. Swelling tests conducted using Kyeongju bentonite are emulated using the COMSOL Multiphysics numerical analysis tool. Relationships between the swelling phenomenon and mechanical parameters are determined via an artificial neural network. Subsequently, by inputting the swelling tests results into the network, the values for the mechanical parameters of Kyeongju bentonite are obtained. Sensitivity analysis is performed to identify the influential parameters. Results of the numerical analysis based on the identified mechanical parameters are consistent with the experimental values.

In this paper, Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) $SiO_2$ film properties are modeled using statistical analysis and neural networks. For systemic analysis, Box-Behnken's 3 factor design of experiments (DOE) with response surface method are used. For characterization, deposited film thickness and film stress are considered as film properties and three process input factors including plasma RF power, flow rate of $N_2O$ gas, and flow rate of 5% $SiH_4$ gas contained at $N_2$ gas are considered for modeling. For film thickness characterization, regression based model showed only 0.71% of root mean squared (RMS) error. Also, for film stress model case, both regression model and neural prediction model showed acceptable RMS error. For sensitivity analysis, compare to conventional fixed mid point based analysis, proposed sensitivity analysis for entire range of interest support more process information to optimize process recipes to satisfy specific film characteristic requirements.
The design of seismically isolated structures considering the stochastic nature of excitations, base isolators' design parameters, and superstructure properties requires robust reliability analysis methods to calculate the failure probability of the entire system. Here, by applying artificial neural networks, we proposed a robust technique to accelerate the estimation of failure probability of equipped isolated structures. A three-story isolated building with susceptible facilities is considered as the analytical model to evaluate our technique. First, we employed a sensitivity analysis method to identify the critical sources of uncertainty. Next, we calculated the probability of failure for a particular set of random variables, performing Monte Carlo simulations based on the dynamic nonlinear time-history analysis. Finally, using a set of designed neural networks as a surrogate model for the structural analysis, we assessed once again the probability of the failure. Comparing the obtained results demonstrates that the surrogate model can attain precise estimations of the probability of failure. Moreover, our proposed approach significantly increases the computational efficiency corresponding to the dynamic time-history analysis of the structure.
"Mortar or concrete pneumatically projected at high velocity onto a surface" is called Shotcrete. Models that predict shotcrete design parameters (e.g. compressive strength, slump etc) from any mixing proportions of admixtures could save considerable experimentation time consumed during trial and error based procedures. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been widely used for similar purposes; however, such models have been rarely applied on shotcrete design. In this study 19 samples of shotcrete test panels with varying quantities of water, steel fibers and silica fume were used to determine their slump, cost and compressive strength at different ages. A number of 3-layer Back propagation Neural Network (BPNN) models of different network architectures were used to train the network using 15 samples, while 4 samples were randomly chosen to validate the model. The predicted compressive strength from linear regression lacked accuracy with $R^2$ value of 0.36. Whereas, outputs from 3-5-3 ANN architecture gave higher correlations of $R^2$ = 0.99, 0.95 and 0.98 for compressive strength, cost and slump parameters of the training data and corresponding $R^2$ values of 0.99, 0.99 and 0.90 for the validation dataset. Sensitivity analysis of output variables using ANN can unfold the nonlinear cause and effect relationship for otherwise obscure ANN model.

Objectives: Facial diagnosis is an important part of clinical diagnosis in traditional East Asian Medicine. In this paper, we proposed a model to quantitatively classify cold sensitivity using a fully automated facial image analysis system. Methods: We investigated cold sensitivity in 452 subjects. Cold sensitivity was determined using a questionnaire and the Cold Pattern Score (CPS) was used for analysis. Subjects with a CPS score below the first quartile (low CPS group) belonged to the cold non-sensitivity group, and subjects with a CPS score above the third quartile (high CPS group) belonged to the cold sensitivity group. After splitting the facial images into train/validation/test sets, the train and validation set were input into a convolutional neural network to learn the model, and then the classification accuracy was calculated for the test set. Results: The classification accuracy of the low CPS group and high CPS group using facial images in all subjects was 76.17%. The classification accuracy by sex was 69.91% for female and 62.86% for male. It is presumed that the deep learning model used facial color or facial shape to classify the low CPS group and the high CPS group, but it is difficult to specifically determine which feature was more important. Conclusions: The experimental results of this study showed that the low CPS group and the high CPS group can be classified with a modest level of accuracy using only facial images. There was a need to develop more advanced models to increase classification accuracy.

The medical informatics for clustering Sasang types with collected clinical data is important for the personalized medicine, but it has not been thoroughly studied yet. The purpose of this study was to examine the usefulness of neural network data mining algorithm for traditional Korean medicine. We used Kohonen neural network, the Self-Organizing Map (SOM), for the analysis of biomedical information following data pre-processing and calculated the validity index as percentage correctly predicted and type-specific sensitivity. We can extract 12 data fields from 30 after data pre-processing with correlation analysis and latent functional relationship analysis. The profile of Myers-Briggs Type Inidcator and Bio-Impedance Analysis data which are clustered with SOM was similar to that of original measurements. The percentage correctly predicted was 56%, and sensitivity for So-Yang, Tae-Eum and So-Eum type were 56%, 48%, and 61%, respectively. This study showed that the neural network algorithm for clustering Sasang types based on clinical data is useful for the sasang type diagnostic test itself. We discussed the importance of data pre-processing and clustering algorithm for the validity of medical devices in traditional Korean medicine.
Manually reviewing electroencephalograms (EEGs) is labor-intensive and demands automated seizure detection systems. To construct an efficient and robust event detector for experimental seizures from continuous EEG monitoring, we combined spectral analysis and deep neural networks. A deep neural network was trained to discriminate periodograms of 5-sec EEG segments from annotated convulsive seizures and the pre- and post-EEG segments. To use the entire EEG for training, a second network was trained with non-seizure EEGs that were misclassified as seizures by the first network. By sequentially applying the dual deep neural networks and simple pre- and post-processing, our autodetector identified all seizure events in 4,272 h of test EEG traces, with only 6 false positive events, corresponding to 100% sensitivity and 98% positive predictive value. Moreover, with pre-processing to reduce the computational burden, scanning and classifying 8,977 h of training and test EEG datasets took only 2.28 h with a personal computer. These results demonstrate that combining a basic feature extractor with dual deep neural networks and rule-based pre- and post-processing can detect convulsive seizures with great accuracy and low computational burden, highlighting the feasibility of our automated seizure detection algorithm.
