  • This paper presents a novel technology for unattented continuous monitoring of radioactive material in hot cell environments. In this monitoring system, the surveillance camera data and NDA data are time synchronized and integrated into the same dimension through data processing. The integrated information is then fed into a neural network to generate diagnostics through data processing. the integrated information of the concept is tested for a spent nuclear fuel transprotation in an operational hot cell at KAERI. The presented integral part of the multi-sensory system and the analytical paradigm may provide an effective technologyical alternative for safeguarding new conceptual hot cell facilities, namely the Dupic facility.

  • Bioterrorism events have worldwide impacts, not only in terms of security and public health policy, but also in other related sectors. Many countries, including Korea, have set up new administrative and operational structures and adapted their preparedness and response plans in order to deal with new kinds of threats. Korea has dual surveillance systems for the early detection of bioterrorism. The first is syndromic surveillance that typically monitors non-specific clinical information that may indicate possible bioterrorism-associated diseases before specific diagnoses are made. The other is infectious disease specialist network that diagnoses and responds to specific illnesses caused by intentional release of biologic agents. Infectious disease physicians, clinical microbiologists, and infection control professionals play critical and complementary roles in these networks. Infectious disease specialists should develop practical and realistic response plans for their institutions in partnership with local and state health departments, in preparation for a real or suspected bioterrorism attack.

  • In recent years the space where a robot works has been expanding to the human space unlike traditional industrial robots that work only at fixed positions apart from humans. A human in the recent situation may be the owner of a robot or the target in a robotic application. This paper deals with the latter case; when a robot vision system is employed to monitor humans for a surveillance application, each person in a scene needs to be identified. Humans, however, often move together, and occlusions between them occur frequently. Although this problem has not been seriously tackled in relevant literature, it brings difficulty into later image analysis steps such as tracking and scene understanding. In this paper, a probabilistic neural network is employed to learn the patterns of the best dividing position along the top pixels of an image region of partly occlude people. As this method uses only shape information from an image, it is simple and can be implemented in real time.

  • This paper describes a development of an network based remote surveillance system using omni-directional mobile robot. the proposed surveillance system can control a mobile robot to move and examines the given place closely while the conventional surveillance system uses a fixed camera. The mobile robot in the proposed system has three omni-directional wheels to move to any given direction freely. We also developed the proposed system as robot services using Microsoft's MSRDS for a user to control the mobile robot and monitor the remote scene captured from the robot. Finally we verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed system by conducting the remote operating the mobile robot and monitoring experiments in a networked environment. We also conducted a color based object detection and motion detection on image sequences acquired from a remote mobile robot in an another PC in a network environment.

  • Surveillance reconnaissance sensor network is used for surveillance in wartime and area of operation. In this paper, we propose a target localization method using the detection signal strength of seismic sensors. Relay equipment calculates the target location using coordinate information and detection signal strength of the seismic sensors. Target localization error deviation due to environmental factors was minimized by subtracting the dynamic offset when calculating the target location. Field test shows improvement of target localization through reduction of errors. The average error was decreased to 3.62m. Up to 62% improved result was obtained compared to weighted centroid localization method.

  • Recently, the network Infrastructure grows rapidly and the digital image compression technique has made remarkable progress. Therefore, the demand of the real-time image surveillance system which uses a network camera server has been increasing. Network Camera Server has emerged as an attractive alternative to the CCTV for the wireless video surveillance. In this article, the model of JPEG Streamer for collecting and delivering JPEG image is designed and realized as a key module for the wireless video surveillance system. The thread pool and shared memory have been used to improve the stability and efficiency of the JPEG Streamer. In addition, the concept of double buffering is of much benefit to improve the quality of real-time image. In this article, the wireless video surveillance system by using JPEG Streamer is suggested to send the real-time image through the wireless internet with the personal digital assistance (PDA).

  • In the area of wireless sensor networks, sensor coverage and network connectivity problems are caused by a limited detection range and the communication distance of the nodes. To solve the coverage and connectivity problems, many studies are suggested, but most research is restricted to apply into the real environment because they didn't consider various environmental factors on wireless sensor network deployment. So in this paper, we propose a node deployment strategy considering environmental factors and the number of nodes in surveillance and reconnaissance sensor networks(SRSN). The proposed node deployment method divides the installation of the surveillance and reconnaissance sensor networks system into four steps such as identification of influences factors for node placement through IPB process, sensor node deployment based on sensing range, selection of monitoring site, and relay node deployment based on RF communication range. And it deploys the sensor nodes and relay nodes considered the features of the surveillance and reconnaissance sensor network system and environmental factors. The result of simulation indicates that the proposed node deployment method improves sensor coverage and network connectivity.

  • This paper proposes, designs and implements an architecture of a server involved with the network camera based video surveillance systems to solve common problems including lack of inter-network operability at the video information sharing, drawback of bandwidth and processing-overhead caused by increase of the number of users, and difficulty of continuous monitoring over changes of network configurations. The proposed saver was designed to manage and service numerous network cameras and users as well as solving the existing problems by providing video distribution facility. Through the empirical study after applying the implemented server to a real video surveillance system we proved that the server can provide reasonable service quality while it processes several hundreds of simultaneous user connections under persisting more than one hundred connections to network cameras. We expect the developed video distribution server to enhance service quality of the large scale video surveillance systems for citizen-wide services such as traffic reporting informatics or natural calamities supporting.

  • We introduce a vision-based object detection method for real-time video surveillance system in low-end edge computing environments. Recently, the accuracy of object detection has been improved due to the performance of approaches based on deep learning algorithm such as Region Convolutional Neural Network(R-CNN) which has two stage for inferencing. On the other hand, one stage detection algorithms such as single-shot detection (SSD) and you only look once (YOLO) have been developed at the expense of some accuracy and can be used for real-time systems. However, high-performance hardware such as General-Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Unit(GPGPU) is required to still achieve excellent object detection performance and speed. To address hardware requirement that is burdensome to low-end edge computing environments, We propose sub-frame analysis method for the object detection. In specific, We divide a whole image frame into smaller ones then inference them on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based image detection network, which is much faster than conventional network designed forfull frame image. We reduced its computationalrequirementsignificantly without losing throughput and object detection accuracy with the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a platform of portable cultural assets surveillance system is designed in order to prevent the theft of cultural assets. The platform was designed to take into account the characteristics of the cultural assets for minimizing of the damage of cultural assets. The platform is composed of the portable cultural assets surveillance system and the collaboration network protocol among th surveillance system. If an intruder steals the cultural assets and moves according to the scheduled route, it is expected that the platform has a great role because the platform of portable cultural assets surveillance system can performs the continuous tracking by the collaboration network.
