  • When the tunnel is designed, the ground is classified into several grades and the corresponding support system is applied according to the support pattern table. However, a simple pattern application based on rock grade does not take into account the longitudinal stress transitions occurring at rock grade boundaries. In this study, three-dimensional numerical analysis was performed to estimate the stress change in the longitudinal rock grade change of NATM tunnel, and the influence zone of load transfer was investigated using the influence line and trend line. As a result, the downward change of rock grade in the direction of tunnel excavation occurs in the range of 0.35~0.7D from low-strength rock to high-strength rock around the grade change boundary. It is necessary to apply a downward pattern of about 1.0D to the safety direction in consideration of the influence range of 0.35D to 0.7D.

  • We combined CC2431(Chipcon, Norway), as the platform for the Indoor Location Tracking, which follows Zigbee/IEEE802.15.4 standards in RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) and Base Station Node and then, embodied Indoor Location Tracking System. CC2431 is composed of the Reference Node that transfer its current position at the designated place and the Blind Node. The Blind node receives the current position(X and Y coordinates) of the Reference Node fields which are being contiguous and also, calculates its current position and transfers it to the Base Station Node. The base station node is used for receiving the current position of blind node and passing its data to the PC as a gateway. We can make sure where is the Blind Node not only from the out-of-the-way place of the server side but from the outside in a real-time.

  • End-to-end path setup and maintenance are very important for mobile ad-hoc wireless communications, because of the mobility and the limited battery capacity of the nodes in the networks. the AODV routing protocol is the one of mary proposed protocols. However, there are route failure problem with the Proposed protocols between intermediate nodes due to such mobility and exhausted battery characteristics, and this is because only the shortest hop count is considered for the route setup. If route failure happens. Problem such as the waste of bandwidth and the increment of the energy consumption occur because of the discarding data packets in the intermediate nodes and the path re-setup process required by the source node. In addition, it obviously causes the network lifetime to be shortened. This paper proposes a routing protocol based on the AODV routing protocol that it makes use of the remaining energy, signal strength and SNR of the MAC layer resources to setup a path.

  • Recently, a demand of Internet-of-things (IoT) rises dramatically and an interest in Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) grows larger accordingly. In this paper, performance in LoRa which is included in LPWA standard is analyzed. Particularly, after measuring Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) of received signal on Line-of-sight (LoS) and Non-line-of-sight (NLoS) environment and it is compared with RSSI which theoretical path loss model is applied to. Among many path loss models, the simulation for theoretical RSSI use Log-distance, Two-ray model and Okumura-Hata model that is based on the test database. Consequently, the result of Okumura-Hata model is the most similar with the measured RSSI. When a network based on LoRa is built, this result can used to decide optimal node arrangement.

  • In the last decade, there has been an exponential increase of scientific interest in smart additive manufacturing (AM) technology. Among the different AM techniques, one of the most commonly applied processes is digital light processing (DLP). DLP uses a digital projector screen to flash an ultraviolet light which cures photopolymer resins. The resin is cured to form a solid to produce parts with precise high dimensional accuracy. During the curing process, there are several process parameters that need to be optimized. Among these, the exposure time affects the quality of the 3D printed specimen such as mechanical strength and dimensional accuracy. This study examines optimal exposure times and their impact on printed part. It was found that there is optimal exposure time for printed part to have appropriate mechanical strength and accurate dimensions. The gel fraction and TGA test results confirmed that the improvement of mechanical properties with the increasing UV exposure time was due to the increase of crosslinked network formation with UV exposure time in acrylic resins. In addition, gel fraction and thermogravimetric analysis were employed to microscopically investigate how this process parameter impacts mechanical performance.

  • We present the results of very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations of gamma-ray bright blazar S5 0716+714 using the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) at the 22, 43, 86, and 129 GHz bands, which are part of the KVN key science program known as the Interferometric Monitoring of Gamma-ray Bright AGNs (iMOGABA). Multi-frequency VLBI observations were conducted in 29 sessions from January 16, 2013 to March 1, 2016. The source was detected and imaged in all available frequency bands. For all observed epochs, the source is compact on the milliarcsecond (mas) scale, yielding a compact VLBI core dominating the synchrotron emission on the mas scale. Based on the multi-wavelength data at 15 and 230 GHz, we found that the source shows multiple prominent enhancements of the flux density at the centimeter (cm) and millimeter (mm) wavelengths, with mm enhancements leading cm enhancements with a time lag of $18{\pm}5$ days. Turnover frequency is found to vary over our observations between 22 to 69GHz. Taking into account the synchrotron self-absorption model of the relativistic jet in S5 0716+714, we estimated the magnetic field strength in the mas emission region to be 0.4-66 mG during the observing period, finding that the magnetic field strength is strongly correlated with the turnover frequency and the relatively strong magnetic field (e.g., B > 40 mG) is correlated with flux enhancements at mm wavelengths (e.g., 86 GHz).

  • In this paper, we propose a dual-band GPS antenna using a single-layer coupled-feed structure for improvement of isolation and design complexity. The proposed antenna consists of a central feed patch and outer dual loops, and the loops are electromagnetically fed by the feed patch to induce currents. This feeding network can improve the isolation between antenna elements arranged in small arrays because the magnetic field strength near the antenna is minimized by confining the fields around the dual loops. The isolation characteristics of the proposed antenna are compared with those of the conventional multi-layer patch antenna, and the average field strength and the isolation are improved by 3 dB and 2 dB, respectively, which verifies that the antenna is suitable for small CRPA arrays.

  • Clay soils are typical for their swelling properties upon absorption of water during rains and development of cracks during summer time owing to the profile desorption of water through the inter-connected soil pores by water vapour diffusion leading to evaporation. This type of unstable soil phenomenon by and large poses a serious threat to the strength and stability of structures when rest on such type of soils. Even as lime and cement are extensively used for stabilization of clay soils it has become imperative to find relatively cheaper alternative materials to bring out the desired properties within the clay soil domain. In the present era of catastrophic environmental degradation as a side effect to modernized manufacturing processes, industrialization and urbanization the creative idea would be treating the waste products in a beneficial way for reuse and recycling. Bottom ash and ecosand are construed as a waste product from cement industry. An optimal combination of bottom ash-eco sand can be thought of as a viable alternative to stabilize the clay soils by means of an effective dispersion dynamics associated with the inter connected network of pore spaces. A CATIA model was created and imported to ANSYS Fluent to study the dispersion dynamics. Ion migration from the bottom ash-ecosand pile was facilitated through natural formation of cracks in clay soil subjected to atmospheric conditions. Treated samples collected at different curing days from inner and outer zones at different depths were tested for, plasticity index, Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS), free swell index, water content, Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), pH and ion concentration to show the effectiveness of the method in improving the clay soil.

  • The present USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Networks) node deployment practices have many limitations in terms of positional connectivity. The aim of this research was to minimize a redundancy of USN route nodes, by integrating spatially weighted parameters such as visibility, proximity to cell center, road density, building density and cell overlapping ratio into a comprehensive GIS database. This spatially weighted approach made it possible to reduce the number of route nodes (11) required in the study site as compared to that of the grid network method (24). The field test for RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) indicates that the spatially weighted deployment could comply with the quality assurance standard for node connectivity, and that reduced route nodes do not show a significant degree of signal fluctuation for different site conditions. This study demonstrated that the spatially weighted deployment can be used to minimize a redundancy of USN route nodes in a routine manner, and the quantitative evidence removing a redundancy of USN route nodes could be utilized as major tools to ensure the strong signal in the USN, that is frequently encountered in real applications.

  • A histogram-based road border line extractor is proposed for an efficient road extraction from the high-resolution satellite imagery. The road border lines are extracted from an edge strength map based on the directional histogram difference between the road and the non-road region. The straight and the curved roads are extracted hierarchically from the edge strength map of the original image and the segmented road cluster images, and the road network is constructed based on the connectivity. Unlike the conventional approaches based on the spectral similarity, the proposed road extraction method is more robust to noise because it extracts roads based on the histogram, and is able to extract both the location and the width of roads. In addition, the proposed method can extract roads with various spectral characteristics by identifying the road clusters automatically. Experimental results on IKONOS multi-spectral satellite imagery with high spatial resolution show that the proposed method can extract the straight and the curved roads as well as the accurate road border lines.
