Infants' Sensitivity on the Changes of Mothers' Touch (어머니의 신체접촉 변화에 대한 영아 반응의 민감성)

  • The present study examined the effectiveness and communications functions of mothers' touch on the responses of their 6-month-old infants using the Still-Face (SF) situation. Participants were 67 infant-mother dyads from Seoul and Gyeonggi province. Positive and negative responses of infants were measured by SF interactions and by three different touch conditions. Touch types were measured by a coding scheme based on Suchung Kim and Keumjoo Kwak (2003; 2(04). Results showed that mothers' touch affected baby's responses by increasing positive responses and decreasing negative responses. The positive and negative responses of infants differed by the three different touch conditions, indicating that mothers use different touch types according to touch conditions; these variations in touch function as an important channel of communications.

Effects of Emotionality, Interpersonal Problem Solving Strategies, and Maternal Behaviors on Children's Social Competence (아동의 사회적 유능성에 영향을 미치는 정서성, 대인간 문제 해결 전략 및 어머니 행동)

  • This study examined effects of children's emotionality, interpersonal problem solving strategies, and maternal behaviors during mother-child interaction on children's social competence as rated by teachers. Data were analyzed separately for boys and girls. A total of 102 children(60 boys, 42 girls; aged 5-6) and their mothers were studied. Children's positive and negative emotionality were related to their social competence. Positive solving strategies were positively related to boy's social competence; negative solving strategies had negative to both boy's and girl's social competence. Mother's negative affect related negatively to boy's social competence and mother's sensitivity/guidance related positively to girl's social competence. When children's emotionality and interpersonal problem solving strategies were controlled, maternal behaviors during mother-child interaction did not contribute to children's social competence.

The Impact of Young Children's Media Use on Peer Interactions and the Mediating Effects of Language Development (유아의 미디어 이용이 또래상호작용에 미치는 영향에서 언어발달의 매개효과)

  • Objective: This study explored the mediating effects of language development on the influences of young children's media use on positive and negative peer interactions. Methods: The data came from the 2013 Panel Study on Korean Children (N = 1,215) and were analyzed to assess the mediating effects of media use on positive and negative peer interactions, using SEM with the bootstrapping method by means of SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 20.0. Results and Conclusion: The results show that increased media use affects positive and negative peer interactions through language development. This indicates that, while media use does not directly affect positive and negative peer interactions, it appears to increase the difficulty of developing language ability; as the language development worsens, undesirable peer interactions may develop. Thus, language development seems to play an important mediating role between media use and peer interactions. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Topic Modeling with Deep Learning-based Sentiment Filters (감정 딥러닝 필터를 활용한 토픽 모델링 방법론)

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to propose a methodology to derive positive keywords and negative keywords through deep learning to classify reviews into positive reviews and negative ones, and then refine the results of topic modeling using these keywords. Design/methodology/approach In this study, we extracted topic keywords by performing LDA-based topic modeling. At the same time, we performed attention-based deep learning to identify positive and negative keywords. Finally, we refined the topic keywords using these keywords as filters. Findings We collected and analyzed about 6,000 English reviews of Gyeongbokgung, a representative tourist attraction in Korea, from Tripadvisor, a representative travel site. Experimental results show that the proposed methodology properly identifies positive and negative keywords describing major topics.

Sibling Interaction by Birth Order, Sibling Sex Composition, and Sibling Temperament Combination (출생순위, 형제 성구성, 형제기질조합에 따른 형제 상호작용)

  • The sample of this study on sibling relationships consisted of 40 pairs of preschool siblings and their mothers. Results were that elder siblings initiated more behavior, initiated more negative behavior, and responded with more negative or no response to affirmative behavior initiated by the younger siblings. Younger siblings exhibited more responsive behavior, initiated more affirmative behavior, showed more affirmative responses to or imitation of affirmative behavior, and imitation of negative behavior than elder siblings. Male pairs exhibited more physical affirmative interaction than female or male-female pairs. Female pairs exhibited more lingual affirmative interaction than male or male-female pairs. Siblings with similar temperaments showed more boastful or no response to negative behaviors than siblings with differing temperaments. Siblings with differing temperaments exhibited more affirmative behaviors than siblings with similar temperaments.

Relationship among Job Burnout, Organizational Commitment and Organizational Citizenship Behavior in Social Workers using Structural Equation Modeling

  • Burnout is a severe psychological and physical syndrome that occurs in response to prolonged stress at work. It brings enormous costs to both organizations and individuals because it negatively impacts employees' job attitudes and leads to undesirable behaviors. The purpose of this study was to examine the negative effects of job burnout on the organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior of social worker. Organizational citizenship behaviors are efforts by employees above and beyond what is expected. For the research, burnout was consisted of emotional exhaustion(EE), depersonalization(PA) and diminished personal accomplishment(DP) by Maslach and Jackson's MBI. This study analyzed 342 social workers in private social welfare organizations by survey. The results of this study were summarized as follows: Social Workers had negative correlation to burnout on the organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior. Especially, EE, PA and DP had a negative effect on the organizational commitment; PA and DP had a negative effect on the organizational citizenship behavior. This study finally discussed theoretical implications for future study and practical implications for burnout strategies on the results.

Adolescents' Perception about the Positive-and Negative Function of Friendship and Their Adjustment to School (청소년이 지각한 우정의 순기능과 역기능 및 학교적응)

  • The purpose of this study was first to investigate the positive-and the negative function of friendship perceived by adolescents second to examine the difference of these two function s by adolescents' gender and grade and third to evaluate adolescents' adjustment to school according to the positive-and the negative function of friendship. For these purposes and empirical survey data was gathered from 988 junior higher- and high school students in Inchon city. Three factors of the positive function and three other factors of the negative function of friendship were constructed as results of factor analyses. There six factors were correlated one another and were significantly different by adolescents' gender and grade. Lastly adolescents' adjustment to school was significantly different by the positive function of friendship.

Stereotypes of the Elderly Held by Adolescents and Middle-Aged Adults (청소년과 중년이 갖고 있는 노인의 고정관념 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this research was to identify arid to compare stereotypes toward the elderly held by adolescents and middle-aged adults. Stereotypes toward the elderly were examined at two levels: to assess students′and middle-aged adults′beliefs about the traits of the elderly and to categorize the traits into stereotypes. Traits groupings were analyzed with hierarchical cluster analysis. The main results of this study were as follows: First, both adolescents and middle-aged adults believed the negative stereotypes were more characteristic of the elderly than the positive ones. Second, middle-aged adults reported more complex negative stereotype sets of the elderly than adolescents. Third, Adolescents reported even more negative physical appearance trails of elderly persons than the middle-aged. Fourth, the traits endorsed as characteristics of elderly persons were often contradictory within two age groups. For example, adolescents perceived "sacrifice" as a positive trait of the elderly, while middle-aged adults perceived it as a negative one.

The Impacts of Regulation, Negative Emotionality and Problem Behaviors on Children′s School Adjustment (조절력과 부정적 정서 및 문제행동이 아동의 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향)

  • Relations of regulation, negative emotionality and problem behaviors to school adjustment were examined for 1,105 elementary school children from 558 2nd grade and 547 5th grade. Children reported their regulation and negative emotionality and teachers rated children's problem behaviors such as hyperactive and withdrawal behaviors and school adjustment including school life, grades, social competence with peers and teacher. Measures of problem behaviors were highly contributed to the prediction of children's school adjustment, especially hyperactive to school life and grades and withdrawal to social competence with peers and teacher. Behavioral regulation was associated with school adjustment including school life and social functioning with teacher and was able to modulate the influence of hyperactive. It was found that depression had both direct and indirect effects via withdrawal behavior on school adjustment.

A Study on Mental Health, Resilience and Happiness of Intermarried Korean Men (다문화가족 남편의 정신건강, 레질리언스와 행복에 대한 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to uncover the relationships and correlations between mental health, resilience and happiness. The sample consisted of 184 intermarried Korean men. The data were analyzed by means of frequency, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS. The major findings were as follows; Mental health was negatively correlated with resilience and happiness, except for the component of negative emotion. Additionally, resilience was positively correlated with feelings of happiness and positive emotion. Second, social maladaptation and depression had a negative influence on resilience and a negative influence on happiness. Resilience had a mediating effect on mental health and feelings of happiness. Resilience had a mediating effect on mental health and positive emotion, while resilience had a mediating effect on mental health and negative emotion. In conclusion, in order to improve happiness it is important to mediate on intermarried Korean men's resilience through special education programs and counseling.
