유기린계 살충제가 흰쥐의 Cholinesterase활성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Organophosphorous Insecticides on Mice Cholinesterase Activity)

  • Changes in cholinesterase (ChE) activity, electrophoretic pattern of ChE and histopathologic state on the mice serum, brain and liver by administration of organophos-phorous insecticides were studied. The mice ChE activities on serum, brain and liver decreased by increasing of concentration and time both administration of malathion and DDVP, whereas on serum and brain the activities of the 7 days after administration decreased, and then presented the gradually slight recovery in course of time. The ChE on serum and liver showed many isozyme bands by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis but several on brain. And isozyme bands disappeared and diffused by administration of organophosphorous insecticides and development of time. The mice liver with administration group of malathion on histopathologic test showed midzonal necrosis between central vein and portal area, and with administration group of DDVP mainly presented portal necrosis on location of potal area.

Palmitic acid inhibits inflammatory responses in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated mouse peritoneal macrophages

  • Palmitic acid (PA) is one of free fatty acids, which is found from Gaultheria itoana Hayata and Sarcopyramis nepalensis. Although PA has a variety of pharmacological effects including mediates hypothalamic insulin resistance, induces IP-10 expression, and promote apoptotic activities, the anti-inflammatory mechanism of PA in mouse peritoneal macrophages remains unclear. In this study, we showed that PA exerted an anti-inflammatory action through suppression the production of tumor necrosis factor-$\alpha$, interleukin-6, cyclooxygenases-2 and nitric oxide in lipopolysaccaride-stimulated mouse peritoneal macrophages. Our study suggests an important molecular mechanism of PA, which might explain its beneficial effect in the regulation of inflammatory reactions.

국내 발생 돼지 구제역의 임상증상, 육안병변 및 현미경적 병변 (Clinical Signs and Pathologic Lesions of Foot and Mouth Disease in Pigs, Korea)

  • We described the clinical signs, gross lesions, histopathological lesions, and electronmicroscopy of pig Foot-and-Mouth Disease cases which had occurred in 2002, Korea. Grossly affected pigs showed vesicles on snout, tongue, coronary band, and udder. Histoapthologically, severe intercellular edema and necrosis of prickle cells, and separation between epidermis and dermis were found on the mucosa of tongue and coronary band. And myocardial necrosis and mononuclear cells infiltration in myocardium were found. Electronmicroscopically numerous picornavirus particles(18∼22 nm in diameter) were found in the cytoplasm of prickle cells. By those results, we confirm that those cases were typical FMD cases.

미나리가 마우스의 카드뮴 중독에 미치는 병리조직학적 관찰 (Histopathological Studies on Effect of Dropwort on Cadmium Poisoning in Mice)

  • This study was undertaken to find out the effect of dropwort on histopathological changes of cadmium toxicity in mice. Thirty two mice of BALB/c strain were divided into a control group (A) and three experimental groups (B, C, D). Each group was consisted of four males and four females : group A received tap water and basal diet, group B received tap water and diet supplemented with 100 mg/kg of cadmium, group C received dropwort juice and diet supplemented with 100 mg/kg of cadmium, group D received dropwort juice and basal diet. All mice were dissected on the 35th day. Pathological changes in liver, kidney, spleen, heart, lung, stomach and muscle were observed. Group D showed no significant change as the control group. But group B showed many cytoplasmic vacuoles and necrosis of hepatocytes, glomerular swelling, and degeneration and necrosis of convoluted tubules in kidney, marked congestion and hemorrhage, and a large number of variably sized alveolar macrophages appearance in lung and swelling in some part of muscle fiber. On the other hand, group C showed a little convalescent changes and maintained their normal architectures in liver, kidney, lung and muscle.

개에서 거세 후 발생한 봉합사 육아종의 병리조직학적인 연구 (A Histopathological Study on Suture Granuloma in Neutralized Dogs)

  • Postoperative suture granuloma have rarely been reported in animals. Eight biopsy masses from testes areas of neutralized dogs were diagnosed as suture granuloma. The suture granuloma occurred at any time from several weeks to a few years after surgery and appeared to be testicular tumors by macroscopic examination. The granulomas were classified into three types based on the histopathological findings. The first type of pyogranuloma was mainly composed of neutrophils, macrophages, and suture fragments. The second type was chronic necrotizing granuloma which was well demarcated by fibrous connective tissues and was composed of a few suture fragments, macrophages and central fibrinoid necrosis. The third type of granuloma had a poorly defined margin with scarcely observed suture fragments and central necrosis in the tissue. These histopathological findings suggested that various types of suture granuloma may be caused by suture material and could even appear long after surgery.

Occurrence of hydropericardium-hepatitis syndrome in broilers and baeksemis raised in Korea

  • The occurrence of hydropericardium-hepatitis syndrome was confirmed for the first time in Korea from chickens submitted for diagnosis to our laboratory from broiler and baeksemi farms. Clinical signs included depression, inappetence, ruffled feathers and an increase in mortality. At necropsy, severe hydropericardium and hepatic necrosis was characteristically found. The most remarkable microscopic changes were seen in the liver, including basophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies in the hepatocytes, massive hemorrhages and necrosis in the liver parenchyma. Based on polymerase chain reaction and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), we could identify the fowl adenoviruses as the causative agent of the disease. In the TEM, we observed the presence of a large number of intranuclear virus particles in the hepatocytes. We could also find the PCR amplification of 700 bp DNA from purified hydropericardium-hepatitis syndrome viral DNA.

  • Since Carrel in 1907 reported transfer of a free jejunal segment in dog, reconstruction of the cervical esophagus and hypopharynx has been accomplished successfully with free jejunal transplantation using microvascular technique. Free jejunal graft is useful in cases of failed colonic interpositions. Three patients with benign esophageal stricture had undergone reconstruction with right colon interposition. Because of necrosis and stricture of the interposed colon, in each case the defect was reconstructed with a free jejunal graft by using microvascular technique. The postoperative course in two patients was uncomplicated, and they were able to eat general diet. Graft necrosis occurred in one patient, but she is waiting for a reoperation.

Effect of Ripe Fruits of Rubus coreanus on Anaphylactic Allergic Reaction and Production of Cytokines

  • The anaphylactic allergic reaction is involved in many allergic diseases such as asthma and allergic rhinitis. In this report, I investigated the effect of ripe fruits of Rubus coreanus Miq. (Rosaceae) (RFRC) on the anaphylactic allergic reaction and studied its possible mechanisms of action. RFRC inhibited compound 48/80-induced systemic anaphylactic reaction in mice. RFRC dose-dependently decreased the IgE-mediated passive cutaneous anaphylaxis. In addition, RFRC decreased the gene expression and production of tumor necrosis factor-$\alpha$ (TNF-$\alpha$) and interleukin (IL)-6 in phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) plus calcium ionophore A23187 (A23187)-stimulated human mast cells. These findings provide evidence that RFRC could be a candidate as an anti-allergic agent.

  • A survey was conducted to investigate viral infections in 184 whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) collected from nine farms and one wholesale fish vendor during 2018 and 2019. Gill and abdominal muscle of shrimp were tested for the presence of five viruses, viz. infectious hypodermal and haematopoietic necrosis virus, taura syndrome virus, infectious myonecrosis virus, yellow head virus genotype 1, and covert mortality nodavirus by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and PCR. These viruses were not detected in any of 184 samples, screened under the study.

  • Ultrastructural changes of chloride cells in the gill from seawater-adapted killifish (Orizias latipes) were studied with a transmission electronmicroscope. Chloride cells contain many mitochondria and specifically developed tubular systems. Apical pits, formed by several neighboring chloride cells, were exposed to the environment. Degeneration and death of the chloride cells by apoptosis occurred more frequently than by necrosis. Apoptotic chloride cells shrank, became to apoptotic bodies, and eventually were phagocytosed and digested by the microphages around them. We conclude that apoptosis plays an important role in increased cellular turnover of chloride cells for the osmoregulation caused by changes in salinity of the environment.
