Surface-Plasmon Assisted Transmission Through an Ultrasmall Nanohole of ~ 10 nm with a Bull's Eye Groove

  • We simulate the light transmission through an extremely small nanoscale aperture having a 10 nm diameter punctured in a metal film positioned at the center of a plasmonic bull's eye grating. A considerable directive emission of transmitted light with a divergence angle of 5.7 degrees was observed at $10{\mu}m$ from the nanohole opening at the frequency of surface plasmon polariton excitation, an confirmed by measuring the distance dependent transmission amplitude. Observations of the electric field in cross-sectional, near-field, and far-field views near-field enhancement associated with the surface plasmon excitation, and the interference of the electric field light through the nanohole in the near-field region is responsible for such a considerable directive emission.

  • Near field recording(NFR) technology has been considered as a strong candidate to surpass the far-field diffraction limit imposed by the nature of light in present optical disk drives such as CD, DVD, and BD(Blu-ray Disk). In this paper, we suggest novel inside near-field dual layer recording concept using elliptic shape solid immersion lens(ESIL).

Evaluation of N2 method for damage estimation of MDOF systems

  • Methods based on nonlinear static analysis as simple tools could be used for the seismic analysis and assessment of structures. In the present study, capability of the N2 method as a well-known nonlinear analysis procedure examines for the estimation of the damage index of multi-storey reinforced concrete frames. In the implemented framework, equivalent single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) models are utilized for the global damage estimation of multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems. This method does not require high computational analysis and subsequently decreases the required time of seismic design and assessment process. To develop the methodology, RC frames with period range from 0.4 to 2.0 s under 40 records are studied. The effectiveness of proposed technique is evaluated through numerical study under near- and far-field earthquake ground motions. Finally, the results of developed models are compared with two other simplified schemes along with nonlinear time history analysis results of multi-storey frames. To improve the accuracy of damage estimation, a modified relation is presented based on the N2 method results for near- and far-field earthquakes.

Effect of near field earthquake on the monuments adjacent to underground tunnels using hybrid FEA-ANN technique

  • In the past decades, effect of near field earthquake on the historical monuments has attracted the attention of researchers. So, many analyses in this regard have been presented. Tunnels as vital arteries play an important role in management after the earthquake crisis. However, digging tunnels and seismic effects of earthquake on the historical monuments have always been a challenge between engineers and historical supporters. So, in a case study, effect of near field earthquake on the historical monument was investigated. For this research, Finite Element Analysis (FEM) in soil environment and soil-structure interaction was used. In Plaxis 2D software, different accelerograms of near field earthquake were applied to the geometric definition. Analysis validations were performed based on the previous numerical studies. Creating a nonlinear relationship with space parameter, time, angular and numerical model outputs was of practical and critical importance. Hence, artificial Neural Network (ANN) was used and two linear layers and Tansig function were considered. Accuracy of the results was approved by the appropriate statistical test. Results of the study showed that buildings near and far from the tunnel had a special seismic behavior. Scattering of seismic waves on the underground tunnels on the adjacent buildings was influenced by their distance from the tunnel. Finally, a static test expressed optimal convergence of neural network and Plaxis.

  • This paper reviews the Lawson formula which predicts the sound field of a point force in arbitrary motion. The acoustic density was represented by an integral of integrand including the generalized function and its partial derivative at retarded time. After skillful integration, a mathematically exact formula was yielded with some terms which were still remained in need of numerical calculations. The significance of further mathematical progress is discussed in this paper. And also, the adequacy of procedures deriving the far- and near-field terms is investigated from the viewpoint of radiation.

안테나 및 EMC/EMI 측정을 위한 다용도 전자파무반사실 구현

  • 전파무반사실을 구축하기 위해서는 많은 비용이 요구되므로 하나의 전자파무반사실을 여러가지 용도로 사용되는 것은, 공간적, 경제적으로 매우 효율적이다. 본 논문에서는 현재 SK텔레콤에서 운용중인 안테나 및 EMC/EMI측정을 위한 다용도 전자파무반사실에 대하여 설명하고 그 성능에 대한 측정결과를 제시한다. 이 전자파무반사실은 150 MHz에서 40 GHz까지의 주파수 범위까지 Far Field와 Near field에 대한 안테나 측정이 가능한 안테나 측정시스템과 측정환경을 보유하고 있으며, EMC/EMI 측정을 위한 ANSI C63.4dhk CISPR 16.1의 요구조건을 모두 만족하고 있다.

2차원 공동 유동에서의 소음원 위치 판별을 위한 실험적 연구 (Experiments for the Acoustic Source Localization in 2D Cavity Flow)

  • This paper presents an acoustic source localization technique on 2D cavity model in flow using a phased microphone array. Investigation was performed on cavity flows of open and closed types. The source distributions on 2D cavity flow were investigated in an anechoic open-jet wind tunnel. The array of microphones was placed outside the flow to measure the far field acoustic signals. The optimum sensor placement was decided by varying the relative location of the microphones to improve the spatial resolution. Pressure transducers were flush-mounted on the cavity surface to measure the near-filed pressures. It is shown that the propagated far field acoustic pressures are closely correlated to the near-field pressures and their spectral contents are affected by the cavity parameter L/D.

Inside an laboratory water tank, far-field directivity patterns as well as near-field source images are reconstructed from the measured hologram by hydrophone array. Approximate equation for far-field directivity estimation is derived based on stationary phase method. The simulation and experiment show well usefulness of the proposed method in application of underwater array sensors.
