  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to use in therapy through considering representative oriental philosophical thought in terms of psychotherapy and Oriental medicine. Methods: This study examines psychotherapy and oriental aspects of "Diagram theory of InShimDoShim" that Yulgok, a Neo-Confucian scholar in the Joseon Dynasty, wrote about action of the mind and suggests ways to use it. Results and Conclusion: Diagram theory of InShimDoShim contains much content that can be applied in psychotherapy. It has a positive perspective of human nature and looked at life as realization of nature and life as subjective self-realization. Positive and negative experiences of life are expressions of positive nature. By reinterpreting these experiences, humans contribute to the goal of life that expresses their nature in a healthy way. Yulgok defines a healthy mind capable of living a good life as "an inshim who listens to doshim's command". Therapists can adopt this mindset as the goal of psychotherapy. Yulgok said that the way of manifesting nature is only possible through energy, and that the clear and tidy of this temperament creates a healthy and unhealthy mind. In this part, it is possible to apply therapeutic intervention of the diagram theory of InShimDoShim and Oriental medicine. Oriental medicine can calm temperament by using a treatment method to regulate energy, and clear energy creates a healthy mind and body. The principle that the mind is composed of nature and energy provides a basis for psychosomatic medicine.

  • Horticultural therapy, as a kind of complementary alternative therapies using nature as a medium, is an intervention method that can be applied to various subjects by utilizing horticultural activities that anyone can enjoy as a leisure activity. This research defined the resilience of individuals as a personal characteristic, and examined differences in the intervention effect of horticultural activities depending on the level of resilience. The results obtained in this study can be utilized in planning a horticultural activity program and setting the purpose and goals of horticultural activity programs. The subjects of this study were divided into the high resilience experimental group (Group A), the low resilience experimental Group (Group C), the high resilience control group (Group B), and the low resilience control group (Group D). The experiment was conducted in the campus of G University from September to November 2017, and the experimental group participated in the program once per week, a total of 10 sessions. The Korean version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, autonomic nervous assessment, and the interpersonal relationship change scale were carried out as pre- and post-assessment. Statistical analysis was performed using a non-parametric test. Group A showed statistically significant positive changes in relaxation of physical tension and stability. In conclusion, those with high resilience showed the higher intervention effects of horticultural activities on physical relaxation and stability than those with low resilience. However, there were some possible limitations in this study. Since the number of subjects was small and subjects were limited to college students, it is impossible to generalize the results of this study. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct follow-up studies to address and overcome these limitations.

  • The aims of this article is to examine that Daegeum Sanjo Rhythm (DSR) compare with Jinyang-jangdan and Jajinmori-jangdan on music therapy. Daegeum has the largest range of notes in wind instruments through Korean music. Jangdan is the essential element of rhythm in Korean music. Just as human body sound and resonant with their rhyme and meters, jangdan has its own rhythms of physical structures and sequence and repeat. Jinyang-jangdan, which is close to western minor code, expresses heartbreaking grief and great mourning feeling, so it makes one feel the catharsis through that rhythm. Jinyang-jangdan of daegeum music may be slow, but it can be sublimated into grim music for human. So, people overcome the sadness through grim music. On the other hand, jajinmori-jangdan gives charm and gaiety to people and to everything. So, it is exciting that it's often performed in festival and parade. Rhythmical music is a tool to improve the well-being of humanity and increase our life choices. Therefore, music therapy surely needs both influences of daegeum sanjo music regardless of the rhythm. Because, daegeum sanjo music is nature-friendly music of the rhythm.

  • Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is a clonal myeloproliferative hematopoietic stem cell disorder. Deregulated BCR-ABL fusion tyrosine kinase activity is the main cause of CML disease pathogenesis, making BCR-ABL an ideal target for inhibition. Current tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) designed to inhibit BCR-ABL oncoprotein activity, have completely transformed the prognosis of CML. Interruption of TKI treatment leads to minimal residual disease reside (MRD), thought to reside in TKI-insensitive leukaemia stem cells which remain a potential reservoir for disease relapse. This highlights the need to develop new therapeutic strategies for CML either as small molecule master TKIs or phytopharmaceuticals derived from nature to achieve chronic molecular remission. This review outlines the past, present and future therapeutic approaches for CML including coverage of relevant mechanisms, whether ABL dependent or independent, and epigenetic factors responsible for developing resistance against TKIs. Appearance of mutant clones along the course of therapy either pre-existing or induced due to therapy is still a challenge for the clinician. A proposed in-vitro model of generating colony forming units from CML stem cells derived from diagnostic samples seems to be achievable in the era of high throughput technology which can take care of single cell genomic profiling.

  • Ultrasound has been found useful as a therapeutic modality for the reduction of muscular and tendinous spasm. It has also been utilized for pain and other pathologic conditions through the ability of soundwaves to introduce molecules of chemical substances through the skin by a process. Choice of the transmission medium is very important for effective ultrasound treatment in clinical field. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of various ultrasound conduction media in regard to ultrasound conductivity and degree of absorption, evaporation and of skin irritation. The media used in this study were Antiphlamine, Sacch lotion, Stereogel, Trastgel, Antiphlamine S lotion, and Mentholatum lotion that have been used in clinical medicine. The study revealed that Antiphlamine was not compatible with a good ultrasound transmitter. Other media excluding Antiphlamine were compatible with a good ultrasound conductor, but they had some drawback with their nature of higher absorption, evaporation and skin irritation. The medium that was prepared by mixing of Antiphlamine with Gel in 1 to 10 ratio was a good ultrasound transmitter and extents of absorption and evaporation and of skin irritation of it were less than the other media.

  • Gadolinium neutron capture therapy (Gd-NCT) is a precision radiation therapy that kills cancer cells using the neutron capture reaction that occurs when 157Gd hits thermal neutrons. 157Gd has the highest thermal neutron capture cross section of 254,000 barns among stable isotopes in the periodic table. Another stable isotope, 155Gd, also has a high thermal neutron trapping area (~ 60,700 barns), so gadolinium that exists in nature can be used as a Gd-NCT drug. Gd-NCT is a mixed kinetic energy of low-energy and high-energy ionizing particles, which can be uniformly distributed throughout the tumor tissue, thereby solving the disadvantage of heterogeneous dose distribution in tumor tissue. The Gd complexes of small-sized molecule are widely used as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in clinical practice. Therefore, these compounds can be used not only for diagnosis but also therapy when considering the concept of Gd-NCT. This multifunctional trial can look forward to new medical advance into NCT clinical practices. In this review, we introduce gadolinium compounds suitable for Gd-NCT and describe the necessity of image guided Gd-NCT.
