The purpose of this study is to improve the dyeability and the color fastness to light of cotton fabric dyed with extraction of cinnamon cassia. Cotton fabric was pretreated with chito-colla to enhance the dyeability, and K/S values were compared chito-colla pretreated fabric and untreated fabric. In addition, to improve of color fastness to light of dyed fabric, it was used FFC compound as mordant. Also, it was measured SOD-liked activity of FFC compound and lifht fastness of dyed fabrics. The results are as follow; K/S value of cotton fabric pretreated with chito-colla(5%) was much more increased than untreated fabric. SOD-liked activity of FFC compound was observed over 70%. Light fastness of cotton fabric treated with FFC compound was 3~4 grades.
Artemisia princeps was used for the natural dye stuff extraction and concentration to produce the condensed dye liquid. Using this liquid, the silk and the cotton fabrics were dyed. And then the K/S value, color difference were measured in order to determine the dyeability and the antimicrobial activity. The K/S value of silk were much higher than those of cotton. In terms of the silk fabric, the premordanting method was most efficient of the mordanting method. The various surface colors on the dyed fabric were resulted according to used mordants and mordanting methods. The dye fastness was significantly improved when mordants were added. Among them, Cr-mordant improved more than 1 level. The Cu-mordant showed the greatest antimicrobial activity on both of mordant treated silk and cotton.
Silk fabric was dyed using methanol extract of Chrysanthemum boreale at $60^\circ{C}$ for 40min. The K/S value of the silk fabric was highest in the premordanting method, while the amount of absorbed mordant was largest in the Cu-mordanting. The surface colors of the dyed fabric highly depended upon mordants or mordanting methods. For all cases, the value of the dyed fabric was dark. The chroma was high by using the Cr-mordant and the color difference was distinct by using the Fe-mordant. Cu-mordanted silk showed highest fastness to light. Dyed silk fabrics by mordanting method showed good antimicrobial activity ad deodorization property.

The dyeing characteristics of acorn was investigated. The natural Fabrics-cotton, rayon and silk-were dyed repeatedly in the solution extracted from acorn, CuSO4, K2Cr2O7 and brine were used as mordants to improve color fastness. Anti-bacterial property was measured in the dyed and mordant treated fabrics. When the cotton and rayon fabrics were dyed and treated with CuSO4, their colors showed very clear. They also had good color fastness and excellent anti-bacterial property. The dyed silk fabrics had better dye absorption property than the cotton and rayon fabrics without mordant treatment. But the fabrics dyed without mordant treatment had low light fastness. The cotton, rayon and silk fabrics dyed and treated with brine were dark and unclear. An aftertreatment with CuSO4 and K2Cr2O7 made the dyed fabrics darter and more clear.
For the purpose of standardization and practicability of natural dyeing, the mordanting and dyeing properties of Puerariae Radix was studied. Appropriate extraction, dyeing and mordanting condition of Puerariae Radix were determined, and the effect of mordanting method on dye uptake and color fastness of dyed fabric was investigated. The maximum absorbance of Puerariae Radix solution was at 290nm and 301nm. The pH effect was stable in the color difference changes. The optimum temperature to extract Puerariae Radix was during 1 hour in loot. The effective dyeing temperature and time of silk were 80$\~$ 100$^{circ}C$, 1hour. The silk fabrics dyed with Puerariae Radix appeared yellow-brown. US value of dyeing fabrics was increased by Fe, and Cu mordant treatment. Mordanting treatment method affected color change of the dyed silk. In the case of Puerariae Radix light fastness of appeared more than 2-5 grades by mordant treatment. Perspiration fastness of appered more than 4 grades by Al, Sn, Cr mordant treatment. Fastness of abrasion and dry-cleaning appered more than 4-5 grades. These fastness improvement were generally effective for mordant treatment, specially Al, Sn, Cr.
The dyeings of cotton and silk fabric with Laurus tree extracts were investigated. The colorant was extracted with distilled water at $100^{\circ}C$ for lh. Dyeability(K/S), color fastness and antibacterial property of cotton and silk fabric were tested under conditions of various time, temperature, concentration, repeat-number of dyeing and mordants. The characteristics of dyeings Laurus extracts were figured out by K/S and CIELab values and color-fastness test was estimated in terms of wash fastness and light fastness. The maximum wavelength of spectrum was 670nm. The K/S value of cotton and silk fabric increased with increasing dyeing time and the exhaustion was saturated in 90min. Optical dyeing temperatures of cotton and silk fabrics were $60^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C$, respectively. The mordant effect on cotton fabric was achieved using Fe mordant. On the other hand, the mordant effect on silk fabric was obtained using Fe and Cu mordants. The wash fastness of cotton fabric was higher than that of silk fabric. Antibacterial property of silk dyeing was greater than that of cotton dyeing. In addition, the excellent antibacterial effect was imparted by Fe-post mordant method.

The Hanji dyed with persimmon juice were useful goods in the past, but they are not widely used nowadays despite of their many strong points such as antibacterial and water-resistant properties. The object of this study is to provide useful data for developing new products by using them. We dyed traditional Korean hand-made papers (Hanji) with colorants extracted from fruits of Diospyros kaki and investigated the effect of various dyeing factors (mordant, mordanting method, pH of dyeing solution, light exposure time etc.) on optical and mechanical properties of the dyed Hanji. Changing mordant affected the color of dyed Hanji. The dyed Hanji after-mordanted with Cu mordant had the highest K/S value and showed the deepest yellow and red shade. The best mordanting method was an after-mordanting. The K/S value of dyed Hanji increased with decreasing pH of dyeing solution. The tensile index and size degree values of the Hanji were increased after dyeing.

The objective of this study was to find in what color Korean handmade paper(Hanji) is dyed when it is dyed with a pigment extracted from mugworts using different kinds of mordant, and how the paper is discolored and variety of strength under the condition of accelerated aging test. The results of this experiment are as follows. Among mugwort mordants, only ferrous sulfate mordant produced unique khaki color with a slightly lower degree of discoloration, so it is considered to be applicable in dyeing Korean paper. Bright yellow and light green colors were obtained using mugwort but their chroma was too low for actual use. With regard to water used, colors obtained using underground water had high chroma, but when distilled water was used paper was colored in useless light green. Mordant was found to lower the strength of Korean handmade paper, and the lowering of strength was even more serious under the condition of forced deterioration.
The objective was to study the efficiency of Houttuynia cordata extract colorants as eco-friendly and functional dye for wool fabrics. Effects of dyeing conditions and mordanting on dye uptake, color change, and colorfastness were investigated. Also, antimicrobial activity and deodorization performance were evaluated. The Houttuynia cordata colorants showed good affinity to wool fabrics and produced YR Munsell color. The optimum condition of dyeing was 2.0% of colorants concentration(o.w.b.) at 100℃ for 60 minutes under pH 5.3. Regardless of the mordant type and mordanting method, mordants improved dye uptake and the increase in dye uptake by Fe mordant was higher than that of Al mordant. Al post-mordanting and Fe mordanting changed the color of dyed fabrics with Y Munsell color. The colorfastness of un-mordanted and Al post-mordanted fabrics were excellent above grade 4. Bacteria reduction rate(Staphylococcus aureus) of wool fabrics dyed with Houttuynia cordata colorants was excellent at 98.2%. Also, the deodorization was good at 81%. The results show Houttuynia cordata colorants can be used as a functional natural dye for wool fabrics.
Objectives: This study assessed the cytotoxicity of the metallic mordant cupric acetate (CA) and the protective effect of Albizzia julibrissin (AJ) leaf extract on CA-induced cytotoxicity in NIH3T3 fibroblasts. Methods: For this study, cell viability and antioxidative effects such as the inhibitory activity of lipid peroxidation (LP) and superoxide anion-radical (SAR) scavenging activity were assessed. Results: CA significantly decreased cell viability in a dose-dependent manner, and the $XTT_{50}$ value was measured as $55.0{\mu}M$ of CA. The cytotoxicity of CA was determined as highly toxic by Borenfreund and Puerner's toxic criteria. The catalase antioxidant significantly increased cell viability diminished by CA-induced cytotoxicity in these cultures. Regarding the protective effect of AJ leaf extract on CA-induced cytotoxicity, AJ leaf extract remarkably increased the SAR scavenging ability and the inhibitory ability of LP. From these findings, it is suggested that oxidative stress is involved in the cytotoxicity of CA, and AJ leaf extract effectively protected CA-induced cytotoxicity via antioxidative effects. Conclusions: Natural resources like AJ leaf extract may be a putative therapeutic agent for treatment or alleviation of the toxicity induced by CA metallic mordant.
