  • The main purpose of this paper is to introduce and develop the notion of a fuzzy measure in separable Banach space. This definition of fuzzy measure is a natural generalization of the set-valued measure. Radon-Nikod m theorems for fuzzy measure are established.

  • A method to measure heating value of natural gas using sound velocity and thermal conductivity is proposed to solve the low heating value issues of imported natural gas in South Korea. Natural gas generally consists of methane, butane, ethane, and inert gases. Heating value changes as the gas material properties, such as density, wobbe index, etc., varies. It is highly important to measure heating values of natural gases accurately because measuring the heating value depends on the given natural gases' components. Therefore, sound velocity and thermal conductivity is measured to estimate indirectly heating value of Natural gas with their changed components.

  • Whenever several natural disasters hit Korea with huge damage of property loss and death toll, government spends huge sums of money for rehabilitation of devastated areas every year. It's time to discuss about a natural disaster insurance, which is a long-term as well as precautionary measure. It is advisable to discuss government involvement through the natural disaster insurance, implementation of countermeasures against natural disasters. The natural disasters insurance have to executed as follows, 1) introducing natural disaster insurance with characteristics of social welfare, which makes fast recovery and anxiety reduction in the low-income bracket. 2) advisable to mix the methods of microinsurance including the natural disaster and index insurance.

  • As an application of dimensional analysis in the theory of chaos and fractals, we studied and estimated the information dimension for various phonemes. By constructing phase-space vectors from the time-series speech signals, we calculated the natural measure and the Shannon's information from the trajectories. The information dimension was finally obtained as the slope of the plot of the information versus space division order. The information dimension showed that it is so sensitive to the waveform and time delay. By averaging over frames for various phonemes, we found the information dimension ranges from 1.2 to 1.4.

  • Slope rotatability of response surface designs is a desirable property when we are interested in estimating slopes of response surfaces. In this paper, we derive a simplified measure of slope rotatability from new viewpoints for response surface designs that are frequently used in response surface methodology.

  • In Response Surface Methodology (RSM), rotatability is a natural and highly desirable property. For second order general correlated regression model, the concept of robust rotatability was introduced by Das (1997). In this paper a new measure of robust rotatability for second order response surface designs with correlated errors is developed and illustrated with an example. A comparison is made between the newly developed measure with the previously suggested measure by Das (1999).

  • We propose a method that classifies images into two object types man-made and natural objects. A central object is extracted from each image by using central object extraction method[1] before classification. A central object in an images defined as a set of regions that lies around center of the image and has significant color distribution against its surrounding. We define three measures to classify the object images. The first measure is energy of edge direction histogram. The energy is calculated based on the direction of only non-circular edges. The second measure is an energy difference along directions in Gabor filter dictionary. Maximum and minimum energy along directions in Gabor filter dictionary are selected and the energy difference is computed as the ratio of the maximum to the minimum value. The last one is a shape of an object, which is also represented by Gabor filter dictionary. Gabor filter dictionary for the shape of an object differs from the one for the texture in an object in which the former is computed from a binarized object image. Each measure is combined by using majority rule tin which decisions are made by the majority. A test with 600 images shows a classification accuracy of 86%.

  • In contracts for sales of natural gas between sellers and buyers, it is not suncient to only measure a volumetric quantity of gas in flowing conditions in metering station. Therefore the measured volumetric quantity must be converted to that of reference conditions. The density of the natural gas required in such a calculation can be measured directly or estimated from the equation of sate or any other experimental methods. The specific gravity meter is the apparatus used to measure the density of fluids under the reference conditions and it can be widely used in industrial areas, especially in massive flow rate natural gas industry. This study has been carried out in an attempt to improve measurement accuracy of natural gas flow rate calculation, providing the adequate installation and proper operation conditions of specific gravity meter. The test results are 1) the density measurement errors in case of using methane and standard gas as calibration gases are smaller than using methane and nitrogen gas, 2) the periodical calibration to maintain accurate density measurements is essential, and 3) the specific gravity meter is sensitive to changes of environmental conditions, especially environmental temperature surrounding the specific gravity meter.

  • High-speed machining is one of the most effective technologies to improve productivity. Because of the high speed and high feedrate, high-speed machining can give great advantages for the machining of dies and molds. To perform efficient high-speed machining, evaluation of high speed machinability must be studied preferentially and it can be identified by investigation of cutting force. To measure cutting force in high-speed machining, dynamometer has to have high natural frequency. In this paper, The dynamometer which has high natural frequency used to measure the cutting force in various cutting conditions. High-speed machining characteristics are evaluated by the cutting force, FFT analysis of the cutting force and chip formation.
