  • This study was carried out to obtain information about the valuable combination and concentration to produce good plants of cut gerbera flowers of 19 domestically - bred gerbera cultivars. BA and kinetin combination is more effective than NAA and BA combination to produce good plants and mass propagation of domestically - bredgerbera cultivars. Normally almost of 19 cultivars, mass propagation was more effective on the medium containing 1.0 mg/L BA + 0.5, 1.0 mg/L kinetin. But some cultivars, 'Sunnyeo', 'Oksaem','Piny', and 'Pink Light', vitrified plants were induced on MS medium high level of BA concentration(BA 1.0 mg/L), in comparison with those on the medium with low level of BA(0.1 mg/L).Fresh and dry weight, more effective on the medium containing BA 0.5 mg/L . Kinetin 0.1, 0.5 mg/L. Anatomical investigation of vitrified leaf, stomata of vitrified leaves were circular and inflated, where-as those of normal leaves.

  • The wooden striker on the Divine Bell of King Seongdeok was examined to identify the species of the wood and the outdoor wood weathering caused by solar light, moisture, temperature and air. The species of the wooden striker was identified to Zelkova serrata. When observed the striker with naked eyes, the results were surface discoloration (graying), cracking and roughness. In order to examine the morphological changes according to deterioration type, the specimen were separated to three part(I, II,III-spot). The I-spot was discolored to gray and at the same time entirely covered with dust. So the observation was impossible. The II-spot was also discolored but its texture could be observed. On it could observe numerous fungal hypae and dirts like dust flown into the cell lumens. The cell wall has been so weakened by weathering that it lost the physical intensity. This have made microchecks and splits on the cell wall. Although fungal hypae covered the cell, they did not result in wood decay. The III-spot, located just 0.5 mm below the surface, was maintaining the natural red-brown color of the wood. Its cell wall was similar to that of sound wood. These changes are different from wood decay, and limited only to the surface of the striker-less than or equal to 0.5 mm below.

  • The main purpose of the present study is to survey the major abstracting bulletins of national nature in Korea, to define such problem areas as lacunae, duplicates and limitation in coverage in the abstracting services currently available in Korea, and to make some suggestions for action for improving the abstracting services in the light of general principles and the tradition and situations unique to Korea. The major conclusions reached at this study are summarised as follows: (A) A new abstracting bulletin of general nature covering the whole field needs to be created in each of the following fields where no established abstracting service is available for the outcome of research and development activities in Korea. (1) Language (2) Religion (3) Art (4) Language (5) Literature (6) History (B) A new specialised abstracting bulletin needs to be created in each of the following fields of science where abstracting services limited in coverage are partially available. (a) Statistics (b) Sociology (c) political science (d) Public administration (e) Law (f) Folk lore (g) Military science (2) Pure sciences (a) Mathematics (b) Chemistry (c) Astronomy (d) Geology (e) Mineralogy (f) Life sciences (g) Botany (h) Zoology (3) Applied sciences (a) Agriculture (b) Architectural engineering (c) Mechanical engineering (d) Electrical engineering (e) Chemical engineering (f) Manufacturing industry (g) Domestic science (C) Publication of the abstracting bulletins suggested in (A) and (B) above may be ideally carried on by a qualified learned society established in the respective field. and should be financially supported by the public fund under the provisions of Art. 27 of the Research Promotion Act of 1979. (D) The current practice of adding the author's abstract and keywords to each of the records of the "Doctoral Theses in Humanities and Social Sciences" part of the" Catalogue of Doctoral and Master's Theses Submitted to the Universities in Korea" published by the National Assembly Library should be applied to all the other parts, i. e. to the parts of the "Master's Theses in Humanities and Social Sciences" and of the "Doctoral and Master's Theses in Natural Sciences': which will not only increase the Catalogue's use value but also discourage appearance of various theses abstracts of individual academic institutions such as the" Abstracts of the Doctoral and Master's Theses Submitted to Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology" which will in turn reduce inefficiency involved in the abstracting services at national level. (E) A general abstracting bulletin covering most part of the outcome of research and development activities in Korea other than that covered by the existing abstracts needs to be created to be temporarily. used till the abstracting journals suggested in this study will be fully available. A realistic way of having such a bulletin may be to expand the present coverage of "The Abstracts of the Reports of the Government-sponsored Projects" currently published by Korean Research Foundation.

  • Constellations are formed of bright stars which appear close to each other on the sky, but are really far apart in space. The shapes you see all depend on your point of view. Back before people had televisions and electricity to light their homes at night, they spent a lot more time looking at the stars. People all over the world used their imaginations to draw pictures in the sky, as if it were a giant connect-the-dot game. The patterns they imagined are called constellations. People usually saw patterns that reflected their different cultures. Native Americans in North America imagined many animals and shapes from the natural world. The ancient Greeks found images of gods and goddesses in the stars. Sometimes people from very different parts of the world even imagined the same animal or shape in the same stars. Most of the constellations we recognize today were made up by the ancient Greeks around 6,000 years ago. Different constellations are visible at different times of year, so the first appearance of these patterns told farmers of the changing seasons and reminded them to plant or harvest their crops. The constellations also help us to find our way around the night sky and to remember which stars are which. The star names we use today are mostly from Greek and Arabic, but many are changed a bit from the original, as often happens when words are passed from one language to another. It can be difficult to picture just what those folks long ago were seeing in the stars, so don't be discouraged if you have trouble seeing their patterns. You can even make up your own! In ancient world all the countries or regions had their own way to name things up in the sky, make up stories and draw different shapes for constellations. Today there are 88 official constellations, but you may find that different books show their stars connected in slightly different ways. The official constellations are specific regions of the sky, so the exact patterns are not all that important. However in various cultures there are some famous star patterns that use stars from only apart of a constellation, or even connect stars from different constellations. These patterns of stars that are not official constellations are called asterisms. The Big Dipper is a very famous asterism, found in the constellation Ursa Major, or Great Bear.

  • Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) are often used as fuel for vehicles because they are clean alternative gas fuels. CNG, as a low-carbon fuel, can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. LPG is often used as fuel for taxis because the performance is almost the same as that of gasoline but the price is lower. In the present study, the exhaust gas and the particle number (PN) of particulate matter, which is a recent environmental issue, were compared between LPG and CNG for the same vehicle. A chassis dynamometer was used to conduct the test according to the Federal Test Procedure (FTP)-75 and Worldwide harmonized Light-duty vehicle Test Procedure (WLTC) modes. The PN values of discharged particles having sizes of 5 nm or larger and 23 nm or larger were measured using two condensation particle counters (CPC). The ratio of carbon dioxide was high in the exhaust gas from the LPG vehicle; the ratio of methane was high in the exhaust gas from the CNG vehicle. The PN values of the emitted particles from the two fuels were similar. The PN values of particles having sizes of 23 nm or smaller were high in the high-speed WLTC mode.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new technique to encode and decode the digital hologram. Since the digital hologram (or fringe pattern) is generated by interference of light, it has much different property from natural 2D (2 dimensional) images. First, we acquisite optical-sensed or computer-generated hologram by digital type, and then extract a chrominance component. The extracted digital hologram for coding is separated into segments to use multi-view properties. The segmented hologram shows the similar characteristics with picturing an object with 2D cameras in various point of view. Since fringe pattern is visually observed like as noise, we expect that the fringe pattern has poor coding efficiency. To obtain high efficiency, the segment is transformed with DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) which resembles hologram generation process with high performance. Each transformed segment passes the 3D scanning process according to time and spatial correlation, and is organized into a video stream. Since the segment which correspond to frame of a video stream consists of the transformed coefficients with wide range of value, it is classified and re-normalized. Finally it is compressed with coding tools. The proposed algorithm illustrated that it has better properties for reconstruction of 16 times higher compression rate than the previous researches.

  • CHOOSA GORACK which is a typical example of traditional houses in the CHO SEON dynasty consists of the four terraced builfing group. Among those,SADANG CHAI are located in the highest level, and SADANG CHAI and SADANG CHAI are toward south direction. It means that building orientation and level were influenced by the distinction of social level and the idea of ancester worship. Floor and ceiling level in the same building is different which was caused by the distinetion of social level in the CHO SEON dynasty and an ariental dual as a variety of openings, exposed ceilings, and furniture against a wall were creating a typical Korean visual harmony. Although the furniture and equipments were very important elements in ONDOL BANG the occupance ratio of these were low because the free space in BANG should be utilized effectively to accommodate the space variation. Both an AN CHAI and SARANG CHAI were composed by the standard space module called KAN.And interior elements were established by several factors such as the human scale, the behavior pattern in traditional sitting life style, and the lumber size of post and lintel construction of Korean house.BANG and DAE GHUNG, composed of KAN,were expanded and arranged side by side so that the natural light and ventilation through them could be used in the result of the kind of lay out, traffic circulation was disturved. In conclusion,CHOOSA GOTACK was formed by the sirect effice of the KOREAN penisula. However this study was based on one sample. It may not enough to deduct soild conclusion. Therefore continuous and farher study is needed for the sestemane evaluation.

  • Morphological observation of roots and molecular technique were used to investigate the symbiotic relationships between arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi and ginseng roots. Korean ginseng, Panax ginseng, was collected from 8 sites in Korea. Colonization pattern of AM fungi in ginseng roots was determined as an Arum type under light microscopes. Nested PCR using AM fungal specific primers was employed to amplify a partial region on 18s rDNA of AM fungi from the root extracted mixed DNA. The amplified DNA was cloned and analyzed by random fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) with restriction enzymes, AluI, HinfI and AsuC21. One from each RFLP pattern was selected for sequencing. A total 16 clones were sequenced and identified as 2 species of AM fungi; Paraglomus brasilianum and Glomus spurcum. Paramglomus brasilianum was found from most of the ginseng roots, in this syudy suggesting that this species of AM fungi could have specific relationship with the ginseng root. Possible roles of AM fungal species in ginseng roots are discussed.

  • The aim of this study is to find out the user's needs of a 3D hand gesture interface in the smart home environment. To find out the users' needs, we investigated which object the users want to use with a 3D hand gesture interface and why they want to use a 3D hand gesture interface. 3D hand gesture interfaces are studied to be applied to various devices in the smart environment. 3D hand gesture interfaces enable the users to control the smart environment with natural and intuitive hand gestures. With these advantages, finding out the user's needs of a 3D hand gesture interface would improve the user experience of a product. This study was conducted using a diary method to find out the user's needs with 20 participants. They wrote the needs of a 3D hand gesture interface during one week filling in the forms of a diary. The form of the diary is comprised of who, when, where, what and how to use a 3D hand gesture interface with each consisting of a usefulness score. A total of 322 data (209 normal data and 113 error data) were collected from users. There were some common objects which the users wanted to control with a 3D hand gesture interface and reasons why they want to use a 3D hand gesture interface. Among them, the users wanted to use a 3D hand gesture interface mostly to control the light, and to use a 3D hand gesture interface mostly to overcome hand restrictions. The results of this study would help develop effective and efficient studies of a 3D hand gesture interface giving valuable insights for the researchers and designers. In addition, this could be used for creating guidelines for 3D hand gesture interfaces.

  • Sexual reproductive structure of Phytophthora capsici in vitro was round shape with thick wall and $24.4\;{\mu}m$ of diameter ranging $20-32.5\;{\mu}m$. Oogonium was $26.7\;{\mu}m$ $(21-37.5\;{\mu}m$) and $6.5-{\times}5.4m$ $(6-8{\times}5-6{\mu}m)$ for antheridium as doughnut shaped. Since mycelial contact of the paired cultures initiated right after inoculation, mycelial expansion phase was followed. Oospore morphogensis could be divided into the four phases for reproducing adult oospores. The optimum temperature for oospore reproduction was $20-24^{\circ}C$, whereas a retard trend for oospore formation was at the temperature above $25^{\circ}C$. Korean squash agar medium showed a higher oospore formation than the existing V-8 agar medium. Red pepper fruit agar medium was next. No oospore was reproduced on the red pepper leaf medium. Diurnal light with $1800{\pm}300$ and $800{\pm}300$ Lux showed rather retardation for oospore formation than dark conditions.
