  • The purpose of this paper is to obtain the commutativity of a gamma dominion for a commutative gamma semigroup by using Isbell zigzag theorem for gamma semigroup and we prove some gamma semigroup identities are preserved under epimorphism. Moreover, we extend epimorphism, dominion and Isbell zigzag theorem for partially ordered semigroup to partially ordered gamma semigroup.

  • Phospholipase C-${\gamma}l$ (PLC-${\gamma}l$) expression is associated with cellular transformation. Notably, PLC-${\gamma}$ is up-regulated in colorectal cancer tissue and breast carcinoma. Because exotoxins released by Clostridium botulinum have been shown to induce apoptosis and promote growth arrest in various cancer cell lines, we examined here the potential of Clostridium difficile toxin A to selectively induce apoptosis in cells transformed by PLC-${\gamma}l$ overexpression. We found that PLC-${\gamma}l$-transformed cells, but not vector-transformed (control) cells, were highly sensitive to C. difficile toxin A-induced apoptosis and mitotic inhibition. Moreover, expression of the proapoptotic Bcl2 family member, Bim, and activation of caspase-3 were significantly up-regulated by toxin A in PLC-${\gamma}l$-transformed cells. Toxin A-induced cell rounding and paxillin dephosphorylation were also significantly higher in PLC-${\gamma}l$-transformed cells than in control cells. These findings suggest that C. difficile toxin A may have potential as an anticancer agent against colorectal cancers and breast carcinomas in which PLC-${\gamma}l$ is highly up-regulated.

  • The theory of multiple Gamma functions was studied in about 1900 and has, recently, been revived in the study of determinants of Laplacians. There is a class of mathematical constants involved naturally in the multiple Gamma functions. Here we summarize those mathematical constants associated with the Gamma and multiple Gamma functions and will show how they are involved, if possible.

  • We gamma-irradiated to natural casings from lamb and pork to improve sanitary quality and microbiological shelf stability of sausage stuffed in animal intestine-induced natural casing from lamb and pork. The microbial changes of irradiated casings and the microbial growth of the sausages with gamma-irradiated natural casings were observed. Population of total aerobic bacteria was decreased by gamma irradiation, dependent upon the irradiation dose. The number of microflora in lamb and pork casings was reduced by about 5.5 log cycle at 5 kGy. Population of total aerobic bacteria of sausages stuffed in non-irradiated lamb and pork casing was about 3.6 log CFU/g after just manufacture and was about 7 log after 10 day storage. However, population of total aerobic bacteria of sausages with 3 kGy-irradiated and 5 kGy-irradiated casings was 2.48 and 0.32 log in lamb, and 2.78 and 0.60 log in pork, respectively. Gamma irradiation to animal intestine- induced natural casings was effective and thus, can be used for enhancing shelf life of final products due to reduction of the number of contaminated microflora.

  • The third important Euler-Mascheroni constant $\gamma$, like $\pi$ and e, is involved in representations, evaluations, and purely relationships among other mathematical constants and functions, in various ways. The main object of this note is to summarize some known series representaions for $\gamma$ with comments for their proofs, and to point out that one of those series representaions for $\gamma$ seems to be incorrectly recorded. A brief historical comment for $\gamma$ is also provided.

  • The present study demonstrates the effect of fibrates, agonists of $PPAR{\alpha}$ on cytokines-induced proliferation in primary cultured astrocytes. Alone or combination treatment with cytokines, such as IL-$1{\beta}$ (10 ng/ml), $IFNP{\gamma}$ (10 ng/ml), and TNF-$\alpha$ (10 ng/ml) cause a significant increase of cell proliferation in a time-dependent manner. Treatment of astrocytes with bezafibrate and fenofibrate (0, 5, and $10\;{\mu}M$) reduced the $IFNP{\gamma}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$-induced cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. To address the involvement of IL-6 on the $IFNP{\gamma}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$-induced cell proliferation, released IL-6 level was measured. $IFNP{\gamma}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$ cause an increase of released IL-6 protein level in a time-dependent manner. Furthermore, pretreatment with IL-6 antibody (0, 0.1, 1, 2.5, and 5 ng/ml) dose-dependently inhibited the $IFNP{\gamma}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$-induced cell proliferation. However, bezafibrate and fenofibrate did not affect increased mRNA and protein levels of IL-6 in $IFNP{\gamma}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$-stimulated astrocytes. Taken together, these results clearly suggest that activation of $PPAR{\alpha}$ attenuates the $IFNP{\gamma}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$-induced cell proliferation through IL-6 independent pathway.

  • The present study was designed to characterize the possible roles of spinally located cholera toxin (CTX)- and pertussis toxin (PTX)-sensitive G-proteins in pro- inflammatory cy tokine induced pain behaviors. Intrathecal injection of tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-${\alpha}$; 100 pg), interleukin-1${\beta}$ (IL-1${\beta}$ 100 pg) and interferon-${\gamma}$ (INF-${\gamma}$; 100 pg) showed pain behavior. Intrathecal pretreatment with CTX (0.05, 0.1 and 0.5 mg) attenuated pain behavior induced by TNF-${\alpha}$ and INF-${\gamma}$ administered intrathecally. But intrathecal pretreatment with CTX (0.05, 0.1 and 0.5${\mu}g$) did not attenuate pain behavior induced by IL-1${\beta}$. On the other hand, intrathecal pretreatment with PTX further increased the pain behavior induced by TNF-${\alpha}$ and IL-1${\beta}$ administered intrathecally, especially at the dose of 0.5 ${\mu}g$. But intrathecal pretreatment with PTX did not affect pain behavior induced by INF-${\gamma}$. Our results suggest that, at the spinal cord level, CTX- and PTX-sensitive G-proteins appear to play important roles in modulating pain behavior induced by pro-inflammatory cytokines administered spinally. Furthermore, TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-1${\beta}$ arid INF-${\gamma}$ administered spinally appear to produce pain behavior by different mechanisms.

  • Epoxy composites filled with natural zeolite was prepared to investigate the effects of silane coupling agent, ${\gamma}$-APS (${\gamma}$-aminopropyltriethoxysilane)on the surface free energy, tensile properties and interfacial morphology. The value of Lifshitz-van der Waals component, ${\gamma}{\frac{LW}{SV}}$ for polar was $19.22mJ/m^2$ and increased, while that of Lewis acid-base component, ${\gamma}{\frac{AB}{SV}}$ for polar was $15.27mJ/m^2$ and decreased with the increasing content of ${\gamma}$-APS treatment. It is due that the surface of the zeolite is more coated by hydrophobic of alkyl group than hydrophilic amine or hydroxyl group. The tensile strength and Young's modulus of epoxy system were improved by the treatment with ${\gamma}$-APS due to the strong interface bonding, which was confirmed by SEM.

  • Physical properties of Paleozoic sedimentary rocks in Gabsan formation in Jechon area were obtained by both geophysical well log methods and core property measurements, and the similarity and difference shown between the well log and core log responses were analyzed. The physical properties obtained are natural gamma, resistivity and density. From the difference in density response between the well log and core measurement, the need of correction for natural gamma effect on density log was strongly suggested. And fairly good correlation was obtained between well log and core properties, and among natural gamma, resistivity and density by applying natural gamma correction on density log. It is noted that shale in Gabsan formation reveals very high density, even higher than the density of adjacent non-porous limestone.
