  • The purpose of this study was to develop design guidelines on the learning analytics which can help to promote students' self-regulated learning (SRL) strategies in MOOCs learning environments. First of all, to develop the first draft of design guidelines, relevant literature review and case analysis on current MOOCs platforms such as edX, K-MOOC, Coursera, Khan Academy and FutureLearn were conducted. Then, to validate the design guidelines, expert reviews (validation questionnaires and in-depth interviews) and learner evaluation (in-depth interviews) were conducted. Through the recursive validation, the design guidelines were finalized. Overall, the final version of design guidelines on learning analytics to facilitate SRL strategies was suggested. The final design guidelines consist of 15 items in 10 categories related to the information analyzed based on individual student's learning behaviors and activities on MOOCs environments. Moreover, the results of interview also revealed that the social comparisons, learning progress reports, and personalization might contribute to the improvements of their SRL competences. This study has an implication that MOOCs could offer a higher success or completion rate to students with low SRL skills by taking advantage of the information on learning analytics

  • In 2009, American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy (AJHP) recommended that targeting vancomycin trough concentrations of 10 mg/L or more because of therapeutic failure and potential risk of developing vancomycin resistance. Therefore, new dosage guidelines that could achieve to these higher target were needed. The aims of this study were to develop dosage guidelines targeting new vancomycin trough concentration and to evaluate the performance of these new guidelines. All data analysis were performed using NONMEM(R). Population pharmacokinetic model was first developed from vancomycin dosage and concentration data collected retrospectively during routine therapeutic drug monitoring in 441 patients, then new vancomycin dosage guidelines were developed by using the model to predict vancomycin trough and peak concentrations in a simulated dataset. The estimates, such as, vancomycin concentration trough level, time to achieve target level, mean error were performed to evaluate and compare difference between conventional dosage and new dosage guidelines. The proposed dosage guidelines were predicted to achieve 43.5% of vancomycin trough level within 10~20 mg/L, which is significantly higher than current guidelines (26.3%). Time to achieve target trough level was 19.4 hours in new guidelines comparing to 93.1 hours in the conventional dosage. Thus, new vancomycin dosage guidelines have been developed to achieve new target trough concentrations earlier and more consistently than conventional guidelines.

  • Despite progress made in tuberculosis control worldwide, the disease burden and treatment outcome of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients have remained virtually unchanged. In 2016, the World Health Organization released new guidelines for the management of MDR-TB. The guidelines are intended to improve detection rate and treatment outcome for MDR-TB through novel, rapid molecular testing and shorter treatment regimens. Key changes include the introduction of a new, shorter MDR-TB treatment regimen, a new classification of medicines and updated recommendations for the conventional MDR-TB regimen. This paper will review these key changes and discuss the potential issues with regard to the implementation of these guidelines in South Korea.

  • Recently, the fire safety of road tunnels has been important issues in South Korea. However, proper fire safety regulations has not made for road tunnels. Due to geographical challenges in South Korea, road tunnels should be constructed to secure stable traffic flows. In the Guidelines for Installing and Managing Disaster Prevention Facilities of Road Tunnels (NFSC 603), main target vehicles are passenger cars. This guidelines cannot support big fires from larger vehicles such as cargo, oil trucks. In this study, fire safety for a road tunnel in port area was analyzed with fire dynamics theory under cargo truck fire scenario. Sujunsan road tunnel in Busan city was chosen as a target tunnel, which links between Busan port and highways to increase cargo shipping. The results show the limitations of present guidelines (NFSC 603) for road tunnel from large fire situations.

  • This study was conducted to compare of greenhouse gas emissions between 1996 and 2006 IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) guidelines change. Greenhouse gas emissions were calculated separately by rice cultivation, agricultural soils and field burning of agricultural residues from 2000 to 2008 according to 1996 and 2006 IPCC guidelines. To calculate greenhouse gas emissions, emission factor and activity data were used IPCC default value and the food, agricultural, forestry and fisheries statistical yearbook of MIFAFF (Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries). The greenhouse emissions by 1996 IPCC guidelines were highest in rice cultivation as 4,008 $CO_2$-eq Gg of 2000 and 3,558 $CO_2$-eq Gg of 2008. The emissions by N-fixing crops, crop residues returned soils and field burning did not much affect the total emissions. $CO_2$ emissions by urea and lime were calculated by adding in 2006 IPCC guidelines and its emissions were 157 and 82 $CO_2$-eq Gg in 2008 respectively. The emissions by N-fixing crops, crop residues returned to soils and field burning, in common with 1996 IPCC guidelines, did not have a significant impact on total emissions. The total emissions in agronomic sector was decreased continuously from 2000 to 2008 and annual emissions by 2006 IPCC guidelines were approximately 26-29% less than the 1996 IPCC guidelines.

  • This research aims to measure and analyze the dimensions of typical office chairs and desks sold in domestic market, and to suggest the modifications of national guidelines considering Korean peoples' body characteristics. The scope of this study was limited to the desktop type of computer jobs, excluding laptop environment. The dimensions of 24 different office chairs and 7 tables were measured, and their dimensions were analyzed against the Ministry of Labor (MOL) Notification and Korean Standards (KS). At the same time, the data from the Size Korea was also considered. As a result, the KS guidelines were overall fulfilled by the measured products, while the MOL Notification was not. It was found that the guidelines on the chair height, seat pan depth, lumber support height, and armrest height need to be modified. Some inconsistencies between the MOL Notification and KS were also found. It is suggested that the required dimensions specified by both guidelines should be unified.
