The objective of this study was to improve the performance of the existing individual-tree/distantindependent stand growth model in predicting the growth of Pinus koraiensis forest stands. The parameters of diameter growth and mortality prediction models were estimated using periodic annual increment (PAI) of permanent plots and the performance of the models were compared with that of the existing ones using mean anuual increment (MAI). The diameter growth model includes crown ratio, potential diameter growth and modifier to compute for competitions of trees of a stand. In deriving the mortality prediction model, the parameters were estimated based on PAI which was also estimated as the function of MAI due to the lacking of permanent plot data. The results of this study showed that the newly-estimated functions based on PAI provide more realistic patterns in diameter growth of individual trees. The new approach using PAI in mortality model seems to overcome the over-estimate problem by the MAI-based model in estimating mortality of stand trees.

This study analyzes the current status of reading programs in public libraries based on literature research and data from the National Library Statistics System to derive implications and, based on this, to determine policy directions necessary to revitalize reading programs in public libraries in the future. First, based on the implications derived from the analysis, a plan for securing and sharing data on reading activities in public libraries. Second, the results of a correlation analysis of factors related to the planning and operation of reading programs present to suggest ways to revitalize sustainable reading programs. Third, the improvement of reading program evaluation indicators and expanding qualitative evaluation and creating an official mechanism to collect opinions from public libraries on a regular basis by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Library Association. Fourth, a cooperative network between public libraries that held reading competitions was proposed.

Domestic coffee franchise market in South Korea has been rapidly growing along with developing the global coffee franchises as well as entering domestic franchise companies into the beverage market. Competitions in the markets are getting more accelerated and local franchises and owner-operated coffee shops are losing their market shares gradually as a result. Local franchises and owner-operated coffee shops in Daegu, however, are notable in that they are maintaining the competitiveness in the markets. This is a unique phenomenon, which deserves to be analyzed to identify the successful attributes as a case study. Important Performance Analysis (IPA) method has been employed for analyzing and its gap(i.e., difference between importance and performance) analysis shows that the price and quantity of coffee are the most important differentiating attributes of local and owner-operated coffee franchises in Daegu.

The proliferation of the Internet and related technologies has led to a new form of distribution channels, namely online retailers. The conventional offline and the new online retailers have different transaction costs perceived by the consumers in the following perspectives: the accessibility to the product information, the traffic cost and the opportunity cost for the time to visit the store, the delivery time and the possibility of 'touch and feel' to test the quality of the product. In particular, the online retailers have lower distribution cost structure in that they do not have physical stores, which results in lower selling price. Thus they continuously offer price competition against offline retailers using the lower selling cost as competitive weapon. Moreover the emergence of the social commerce is likely to intensify the competition between the online and offline retailers. To survive in this fierce competition, the offline retailers are trying to defend their business interests by sticking to offline transaction in anticipation of increased customer loyalty, customer's preference for 'touch and feel' style shopping, and others. Despite of these efforts, customers who touch and feel a product in an offline store but purchase the product through an online retailer are increasing. To protect such customers, recently, some of the offline retailers began to provide the mobile discount service (MDS) which enables the offline customers to purchase a product at a discounted price through the mobile applications. In business competitions, the price discount strategy is usually considered to secure more market share at the cost of lower profit. In this study, however, we analyze the effect of MDS as a weapon for securing more profit. To do this, we set up a game model between the online and offline retailers which incorporates the effect of the MDS. By numerically analyzing the Nash equilibrium of the game, some managerial implications for using the MDS for more profit are discussed.

This study was conducted with 8 male table tennis players who won national competitions. Of the subjects, 4 used a racket of penholder grip and 4 used one of shake hand grip, and all of them were right.handers. We analyzed three-dimensional angular characteristics such as angular component, swing trajectory and swing posture related to the racket swing motions of forehand drive and smash in table tennis, and drew conclusions as follows. Racket angle(p<.05) and racket swing angle(p<.01) were significantly different between the two motions. In smash, the back swing posture maintained the racket angle large by holding the racket upright and made the racket swing angle small for high ball speed. In addition, the height of the racket head in back swing posture was also significantly different between the two motions. In phg on impact, the open angle of the long axis of the racket was significantly different between the two motions. This shows that impact was applied a bit behind for giving top spin to the ball. In the back swing of drive, the gradient of the upper body was slightly larger in shg than in phg probably because of the structural difference of the racket grip in the neutral posture.

The purpose of this study is systematically to examine the changes that have taken place to the community spaces of apartment complexes in the national capital region of Korea. The methodology used in this study entails analyzing existing research and case studies carried out on this subject matter. Prior to these case studies, an existing study had been made of the chronological changes in policy, related laws and regulations in Korea since the 1960s. This case study presents the component ratio and systematized present situation of community spaces in twenty-two apartment complexes. An analysis of the researching process has revealed the following important factors related to the changes that have occurred in community spaces in apartment complexes. (1) Apartment complexes were originally developed in the 1960s to ease the housing shortage. Because the priority was to solve the housing shortage, community spaces were not widely considered or developed. (2) The standard of community spaces was established as mandatory by law in the 1970s, resulting in the emergence of various facilities that provided community spaces. (3) In the 1980s, various design competitions for apartment complexes were conducted as an attempt to improve residential environments. This process resulted in the development of new characteristic of subsidiary facilities. (4) During the period when housing problems were being addressed in the 1990s, the Community Service Center was added to the welfare facilities for residents. (5) Recently, during the 2000s, an improvement in residential environments has evolved due to the expansion of housing supply and economic growth. The quality of community spaces has therefore improved from the 1960s onward. This study revealed that policy and related laws regarding community space in Korea have been developing in a suitable direction and that the addition of various facilities to community spaces has improved the quality of living environments.

There are keen competitions among the air operators to recruit competent pilots, which could be adversely affect the safe operation of aircraft. This study is aimed to identify the correlation between the flight experience of the pilot of the air transport operator and competency on visual approach operation. About 2,400 sets of flight training data of several pilots of an air transport operator was analysed for this study. The analysis showed that most captains were able to make stabilized visual approach regardless of his/her flight experience of any type of aircraft, while the first officers were able to make a stabilized visual approach with more than 1,500 hours of flight experience for each rated type of aircraft. This should be considered during making policies for the supply and demand of pilots for the safe operation of air transport.

To estimate the possible amount of weed-crop competitions under the various cropping patterns of two rice cultivars of different type, comparisons between weedy check and weed-free plots in plant height, tillering number, and plant weight were investigated. Fluctuations in Importance Value, competition value, and net productivities were used to discuss the crop-weed competition, respectively. As a result, differences in dominant weed species, competitive crop variety, most effective cropping pattern, and crop yielding characteristics under the different weed competitions were investigated, respectively.

This study was intended to quantify the acceleration and deceleration information measured in the competition by using GPS device for the national women's field hockey players and to identify the difference in movement by classifying them by position. For this study, 308 acceleration and deceleration data were collected from 16 women's field hockey players measured at international competitions. According to research results, the frequency of acceleration was in the order of midfield > defender > striker, acceleration distance was midfield > striker > defender. The frequency of deceleration appeared in the order of midfield > defender > striker, deceleration distance was defender > striker > defender. Based on the results of this study, can be used as basic data when setting the strength and amount of training for field hockey players.

Net value which is a multinational internet survey corporation clarified that Korea was the most nation in the world by the result of its research in the rate of using internet. This research look into the characteristic of the media and type of the animation in internet, also analysis a need of user and a degree of convenience of using internet in the web of education site. This study is designed to study the evaluation criteria of web interface with visual perception and to seek its development in relation to the quality of visual perception in case of web animation.
