  • Current controlled inverter is the device which gives fast and accurate current output response for current command Existing current controlled inverters have no way but to take a narrow bandwidth due to resonance of output filter. In this paper, High performance current controlled inverter with multiloop structure is designed and modeling is executed in that basis. This paper realizes the high performance current controlled inverter with the bandwidth above resonant frequency, controls proposed inverter by analog controller, analyzes the performances through simulation and tests 2kW prototype system.

  • Microwave or optical photonic band-gap(PBG) structures are conventionally realized by cascading distributive elements in a periodic pattern. However, the frequency bandwidth obtained through such plainly periodic arrangement is typically narrow, corporate with a relatively high rejection side-lobe band. To alleviate such problems, a design involving a chirping and tapering technique is hence introduced and employed. The design has been applied in both a planar stratified dielectric medium as well as a strip-line transmission line structure, and results are validated when compared with the corresponding conventional PBG structure.

  • A RF amplitude equalizer is designed to improve in-band flatness of Rf filters and/or systems using two dielectric resonators and a 90$^{\circ}$ hybrid. The equalizer has good return loss characteristics and V shaped S$_{21}$ response in passband which is suitable to compensate the ripple degradation due to insufficient quality factors of used resonators or narrow band width of filters or systems. After being connected to the equalizer, a 5-pole BPF at 1957MHz, which has 10 MHz bandwidth and 6㏈ ripple, shows only 1.8㏈ in-band ripple and good in- and out- band matched responses within used hybrid bandwidth without additional matching networks.

  • Different test methods were used to measure and compare the loss factor of a steel beam. They are free vibration logarithmic decay method, half-power bandwidth method using narrow-band analysis, wide-band analysis method with inverse FFT. In these tests, specimens are clamped at one end. Free vibration method and half-power bandwidth method gave good results. Effect of vibration pick-ups were tested. We also tried center excitation method but could not obtain loss factor.

  • Wavelength tunable, narrowbandwidth wvelength filters in compound semiconductor have been modeled, fabricated, and characterized. In order to obtain a narrow bandpass characteristics at 1.55.$\mu$m, a highly asymmertrical directional coupler structure composed of a strongly guided ridge waveguide and a weakly guided strip-loaded waveguide was used. The optimized filter structure modeling has been obtained by using the spectral index method, effective index method, and the coupled mode theory. Operation at a center wavelength a 1.537.mu.m with a bandwidth of 1.8nm and transfer efficiency of 50-70% is experimentally achieved. For the purpose of center wavelength tuning, the carrier injection in p-n diode structure has been theoretically investigated. It has been found that the tuning range of nanometer can be easily obtained by moderate amount carrier injection. We also found that the bandwidth becomes broad as the center wavelength tuning increases.

  • The acoustic absorption of a multiple layer perforated plate system is very good near the resonance frequency region, while it has been regarded as a demerit that its frequency bandwidth is considerably narrow. In order to overcome such a demerit, the parallel perforated plates with different porosities are proposed. The sound absorption of such system composed of a parallel perforated plate is calculated by an equivalent electroatoustic circuit approach and validated by comparing the calculated absorption coefficients with those measured by the two-microphone impedance tube method. The sound absorptive characteristics and performance of parallel perforated plate systems are discussed from a standpoint of frequency bandwidth related with sound absorption.

A Small Microstrip Patch Antenna (소형 마이크로스트립 패치 안테나)

  • In this paper, rectangular patch antenna is miniaturized by changing the middle of patch into narrow microstrip line except the edges of the patch where the fringing field occurs. Miniaturized rate, gain, bandwidth, radiation pattern of suggested antennas were compared with general square and rectangular microstrip antennas by using simulator Ensemble. As a result, it reduces the dimension of antenna by 44 % and improves the characteristic of x-pol by 40 dB as an advantage when compare with square microstrip antenna while it reduces bandwidth.

A Study on Individual Tap-Power Estimation for Improvement of Adaptive Equalizer Performance

  • In this paper we analyze convergence constraints and time constant of IT-LMS algorithm and derive a method of making it's time constant independent of signal power by using input variance estimation. The method for estimating the input variance is to use a single-pole low-pass filter(LPF) with common smoothing parameter value, θ. The estimator is with narrow bandwidth for large θ but with wide bandwidth for small θ. This small θ gives long term average estimation(low frequency) of the fluctuating input variance well as short term variations (high frequency) of the input power. In our simulations of multipath communication channel equalization environments, the method with large θ has shown not as much improved convergence speed as the speed of the original IT-LMS algorithm. The proposed method with small θ=0.01 reach its minimum MSE in 100 samples whereas the IT-LMS converges in 200 samples. This shows the proposed, tap-power normalized IT-LMS algorithm can be applied more effectively to digital wireless communication systems.

A Varactor-Tuned RF Tunable Bandpass Filter with Improved Passband Flatness

  • A RF tunable bandpass filter using dielectric resonators and varactor diodes is redesigned to improve the passband flatness. Since the tunable liters are generally of narrow bandwidth and the Q value of the varactor diode is usually very low, the passband flatness is strongly deteriorated by sizeable distortion loss. To remedy this problem, we construct modified Chebyshev type filter by use of network synthesis techniques. The key of modified Chebyshev type filter is the rearrangement of the passband poles to improve the passband flatness. To maintain the constant passband bandwidth, design techniques of input/output stage and coupling windows are also applied. Experimental results show that the passband flatness can be improved by purposed method without any additional RF amplitude equalizer.

  • We proposed an eccentric annular ring microstrip slot antenna for improving a narrow bandwidth of the conventional annular ring microstip slot antenna. The proposed antenna has an asymmetric slot and a normal microstrip feedline. This antenna is analyzed and optimized by using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The impedance bandwidth of the optimized antenna is more than 1 octave that is much broader than the conventional annular ring microstrip slot antenna for the same size.
