Purpose: This study aimed to compare the oxygen saturation measured at fingertips with unpolished and self-artificial nails (sticker, tip) using a portable pulse oximeter. Methods: The sample comprised 27 women who had used nail care services. Using a pulse oximeter, oxygen saturation was measured at fingertips with unpolished nails in a stable state. Self-fabricated sticker and tip nails were attached to the right and left hands, respectively, using five nail colors (black, blue, green, purple, and brown). Oxygen saturation was measured at fingertips with self-fabricated nails first in the usual manner and then measured again by rotating the oximeter by 90°. Values of oxygen saturation were compared and analyzed using the Friedman test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test with Bonferroni correction using IBM SPSS 26.0. Results: Oxygen saturation values were significantly different among colors for both sticker nails (p=.036) and tip nails (p=.000), with black self-artificial nails tending to demonstrate lower oxygen saturation. Moreover, oxygen saturation values obtained by measuring the usual way on unpolished nails was significantly different than those obtained by rotating the oximeter by 90° on thumb with sticker (p=.001) and tip nails (p=.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that oxygen saturation should be measured on other fingers except for thumb instead of removing the self-artificial nails in emergency situations. For patients with black self-artificial nails, is the findings recommend measuring oxygen saturation at other body parts such as toes, earlobes, forehead, etc.
This study investigates the reinforcing effects of the Multi-bar Spring nails with respect to the conventional Soil-nails in artificial slopes. Based on wide experience related to design and construction, soil nails have been widely applied to reinforce slope in the world. Multi-bar spring nails are one of the improved soil nailing methods. These method maximizes bending, shearing, pull-out resistance for those multi-nails, not unit nail, that are inserted in the borehole using special spacer at regular intervals. In addition, because cutting plane is confined effect resulting from a pressured plate at the end of the nails with compression spring equipment, slope stability is secured using MS-nailing method. Analyzing bending, pull-out, shearing condition of MS-nail, it was examined throughly elastic region, load transfer capacity, reinforcing effect on cutting plate of MS-nails. In addition, Pilot and laboratory tests, numerical analysis were carried out to verify the superiority of MS-nailing method. In case, MS nailing method is applied to reinforce artificial slope, it was analyzed that bending, pull-out, shearing resistance was increased more than existing nailing method was applied. In this study, it was shown that surface failure was more or less prevented using MS-nailing method, confining effect on cutting plane using spring stuck to flexible equipment.

This paper describes a new numerical analysis technique in stability analysis for a slope reinforced with pressure grouted soil nails. The installing effect of pressure grouted soil nails can be simulated in this method. Shear strength reduction method associated with finite element method is used for slope stability analysis. Factors of safety for a slope reinforced with pressure grouted soil nails are compared with those for a natural slope and a slope reinforced with gravity grouted soil nails in order to investigate their reinforcing effects. More than 50% increase in the factor of safety is obtained when the slope is reinforced with pressure grouted soil nails compared to the one with gravity grouted soil nails. The reinforcing effects of pressure grouted soil nails become obvious with increase in their length. The reinforcing mechanism of the pressure grouted soil nails for the slope stability can be explained by the slope failure surface expanding gradually toward the backfill. The increased stability of the slope reinforced with pressure grouted soil nails results mainly from their improved pull-out resistance.

A series of three-dimensional numerical modelling have been conducted to clarify the behaviour of multi-pressurised soil nails with high strength steel pipes. In this study, the soil non-linearity, the soil-nail interaction and staged construction are considered. It has been found that pressurised soil nails can reduce lateral ground movement by 14-21% compared to general soil nails with very low pressure. In addition, ground settlement was reduced when using multi-pressurised soil nails. The pressurised soil nail may result in an increase in the surcharge loading on the ground surface.
In this study, several pullout tests were carried out under various field conditions to evaluate the pullout force of the end fixed nails. Pullout resistance force, displacement and friction force between the grouting and nail were measured in end fixed nails installed in soft rock, weathered rock and weathered soil. Furthermore, the field test were also carried out under the same condition using the conventional type nails. Based on the test results, it is concluded that the end fixed nails showed larger ultimate resistance force compared with conventional types nails, approximately two times in weathered soil and 1.6 times of weathered rock, respectively. The skin friction is also increased in end fixed type about 1.8~3.0 times. Finally, it is concluded in the base of the force transfer properties that using the end fixed nails could decrease the displacement and show a uniform resistance in entire length of nails.
An important issue in the design of soil-nailing systems, as long-term retaining walls, is to assess their stability during seismic events. As such, this study is aimed at simulating the dynamic behavior and failure pattern of nailed structures using two series of numerical analyses, namely dynamic time history and pseudo-static. These numerical simulations are performed using the Finite Difference Method (FDM). In order to consider the actual response of a soil-nailed structure, nonlinear soil behaviour, soil-structure interaction effects, bending resistance of structural elements and construction sequences have been considered in the analyses. The obtained results revealed the efficiency of both analysis methods in simulating the seismic failure mechanism. The predicted failure pattern consists of two sliding blocks enclosed by three slip surfaces, whereby the bottom nails act as anchors and the other nails hold a semi-rigid soil mass. Moreover, it was realized that an increase in the length of the lowest nails is the most effective method to improve seismic stability of soil-nailed structures. Therefore, it is recommended to first estimate the nails pattern for static condition with the minimum required static safety factor. Then, the required seismic stability can be obtained through an increase in the length of the lowest nails. Moreover, placement of additional long nails among lowest nails in existing nailed structures can be considered as a simple retrofitting technique in seismic prone areas.
In order to investigate the stabilizing effect of nails against sliding, a series of model tests were carried out. The apparatus of model test was designed to perform the model test of soil slope reinforced by nails. The instrumentation system was used to measure the deflection behavior of nails during slope failure. As a result of model tests, the quantity and the occurred position of the maximum bending stress are changed according to the area ratio and the inclination angles of nails. The maximum stabilizing effect against sliding of nails is presented at 0.7$\%$ of the area ratio because the biggest maximum bending stress occurs at this time. But, the stabilizing effect of nails decreases with more than 0.7$\%$ of the area ratio. In the same condition of the area ratio, the stabilizing effect of nails is excellent at -10$^{circ}$ of the inclination angles of nails. The sliding surface can be predicted on the basis of the position of the maximum bending stress in each nails. The shape and depth of sliding surface are changed according to the area ratio and the inclination angles of nails.
A series of field pull-out tests were carried out to investigate the behaviour of multi-pressurized soil nails. Ten soil nails were constructed in weathered soil and then, subjected to pull-out loads. The test results showed that the ultimate pull-out resistances of soil nails constructed with high pressure were about 42~142% larger than those obtained from conventional soil nails. The deduced interface shear strength at the ground-grout interface was 71 kPa for conventional soil nails, while higher shear strength of 95~166 kPa was obtained for pressurized nails. The diameter of grouted borehole increased by about 12~27% compared to ordinary soil nails under low pressure. Also, the predicted value by the cavity expansion theory is in good agreement with the measured expanded radius of grout under injection pressure by field pull-out tests.
In the present study, an economic design of Anchored Geosynthetic(AG) System applied mainly to reinforce unstable soil slopes is investigated. For this purpose methods of stability analysis are developed to determine the optimum installation angle, required minimum length and maximum spacing of nails. Anchorage of nails within the soil mass is achieved by frictional resistance to pull out along the effective length of the nails. Cases of infinite slope and finite slope are dealt with individually. Silce methods of stability analysis developed in the present study are limit-equilibrium-based. For the case of finite slope Spencer method which considers interslice force is modified to evalyate the overall stability. In addition, the effects of various design parameters on requried length and spacing of nails corresponding to the optimum orientation of nails are analyzed. Based on the analysis, a simplified equation is given for the optimum nail orientation. Also the importance of optimum nail orientation is illustrated throughout design example, and the appropriateness of judgment criterion are examined.

A Soil Nail is a structural element which provides load-transfer to the ground in excavation reinforcement applications. The nail may simply consist of a steel tendon, but most commonly the tendon is encapsulated in a cement grouted body to provide corrosion protection and improved load- transfer to the ground. For temporary excavation support in a congested urban area, the steel bar of Soil Nails should be removed to get permission of the private land to install Soil Nails. Several removable nail systems were developed and evaluated by pull-out load tests. The Soil Nail pull-out tests were performed on five nails installed in soft and hard rock at a 00 housing-redevelopment area in seoul. Two nails are plastic socket type and two are complex socket type mixed steel and plastic. The nail was 0.1mm in diameter, 4m long. In this study verification tests, and steel bar removing tests of plastic socket type nails and complex socket type nails were performed and presented.
