  • The improvement of efficiency is the one of the most important part in AC PDPs . To achieve high efficiency, high VUV emission efficiency and High ion induces secondary electron emission coefficient are needed. We have measured the emission spectra of vacuum ultraviolet rays and ion induced secondary electron emission coefficient of MgO protective layer in surface discharge AC-PDP with binary and ternary gas mixtures. We have investigated electro-optical characteristics of AC-PDPs to optimum gas mixture for high efficient.

  • The Faraday cup electrode of different size has been developed and evaluated to investigate the diffusion effect of particles by Brownian motion in a particle beam mass spectrometer(PBMS). Particles which focused and accelerated by aerodynamic lens are charged to saturation in an electron beam, and then deflected electrostatically into a Faraday cup detector for measurement of the particle current. The concentration of particles is converted from currents detected by Faraday cup. Measurements of particle current as a function of deflection voltage are combined with measured relationships between particle velocity and diameter, charge and diameter, and mass and diameter, to determine the particle size distribution. The particle currents were measured using 5, 10, 20, 40 mm sized Faraday cup that can be move to one direction by motion shaft. The current difference for each sizes as a function of position was compared to figure out diffusion effect during transport. Polystyrene latex(PSL) 100, 200 nm sized standard particles were used for evaluation. The measurement using 5 mm sized Faraday cup has the highest resolution in a diffusion distance and the smaller particles had widely diffused.

  • Film properties of monodispersed model composite latexes with particle size of 190 nm, which consist of n-butyl acrylate as a soft phase monomer and methyl methacrylate as a hard phase monomer with different morphology was examined. Five different types of model latexes were used in this study such as random copolymer particle, soft-core/hard-shell particle, hard-core/soft-shell particle, gradient type particle, and mixed type particle. Tensile strength and tensile elongation at break of final films were evaluated. Those properties can be interpreted in terms of PBA/PMMA phase ratio and their morphology. The interfacial adhesion strength was also evaluated using $180^{\circ}$ peel strength measurement and cross hatch cutting test.

  • A kinetic model for particle coarsening behavior in the weld heat affected zone (HAZ) was proposed. Unlike the conventional approach, where the mean-sized particle is considered to grow continuously, the proposed model considered the critical particle size which can be derived from the Gibbs-Thomson equation. In this study, the proposed particle coarsening model was applied to study the behavior of (Ti, Nb )(C, N) complex particle in the weld HAZ. The predicted particle size distributions using the proposed model were in agreement with the experimental results.

  • This study was carried out for the stability analysis of earth dam by the variation of compaction density. The test samples were taken from five kinds of soil used for banking material and the degree of compaction for this samples were chosen 100, 95, 90, 85, and 80 percent. The stability problems were analysed by the settlement and camber( extra banking) of dam, strength parameter and dam slope, and coefficient of permeability and seapage flow through dam body. The results of the stability analysis of earth dam are as follows. 1. The more the fine particle increases and lower the compaction degree becomes, the lower the preconsolidation load becomes but the compression index becomes higher. 2. Sixty to eighty percent of settlement of dam occurs during the construction period and the settlement ratio after completion of dam is inversly proportional to the degree of compaction. 3. The camber of dam has heigher value in condition that it has more fine particle(N) and heigher dam height(H) with the relation of H= e(aN-bH-e). 4. The cohesion(C) decreases in proportion to compaction degree(D) and fine particle(N) with the relation of C= aD+ bN-c, but the internal friction angle is almost constant regardless of change of degree of compaction. 5. In fine soil, strength parameter from triaxial compression test is smaller than that from direct shear test but, they are almost same in coarse soil regardless of the test method. 6. The safety factor of the dam slope generally decreases in proportion to cohesion and degree of compaction but, in case of coarse soil, it is less related to the degree of compaction and is mainly afected by internal friction angle. 7. Soil permeability(K) decreases by the increases of the degree of compaction and fine particle with relation of K=e(a-bl)-cN) 8. The more compaction thickness is, the less vertical permeability (Kv) is but the more h6rzontal permeability (KH) is, and ratio of Kv versus KH is largest in range from 85 to 90 percent of degree of corn paction. 9. With the compaction more than 85 percent and coefficient of permeability less than ${\alpha}$X 10-$^3$cm/sec, the earth dam is generally safe from the piping action.

  • The heterogeneous fleet vehicle routing problem(HVRP) is a variant of the classical vehicle routing problem in which customers are served by a heterogeneous fleet of vehicles with various capacities, fixed costs and variable costs. We propose a new conceptual HVRPCR(HVRP with customer restriction) model including additional customer restrictions in HVRP. In this paper, we develop hybrid particle swarm optimization(HPSO) algorithm with 2-opt and node exchange technique for HVRP. The solution representation is a n-dimensional particle for HVRP with N customers. The decoding method for this representation starts with the transformation of particle into a priority list of customer to enter route and limit of vehicle to serve each customer. The vehicle routes are then constructed based on the customer priority list and limit of vehicle to serve. The proposed algorithm is tested using 8 benchmark problems and it consistently produces high-quality solutions, including new best solutions. The numerical results show that the proposed algorithm is robust and efficient.

  • IFIT1 (also known as ISG56) is a member of the interferon-inducible protein with tetratricopeptide repeats (IFITs) family. IFITs are strongly induced by type I interferon (IFN), double-stranded RNA and virus infection. Here, we investigated IFIT1 expression in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and in human bronchus epithelial cells (BEAS-2Bs) induced by the H9N2 virus and inactivated viral particle at different time points. We also investigated the effect of H9N2 virus and viral particle infection on $IFN-{\alpha}/{\beta}$ production, and assessed whether hemagglutinin or neuraminidase protein induced IFIT1 expression. Results showed that both H9N2 virus infection and viral particle inoculation induced the expression of IFIT1 at mRNA and protein levels in the two cell lines. Hemagglutinin or neuraminidase protein binding alone is not sufficient to induce IFIT1 expression. Surprisingly, the expression patterns of IFIT1 in response to H9N2 virus and viral particles in the two cell lines were opposite, and production kinetics of $IFN-{\alpha}/{\beta}$ also differed. An additional finding was that induction of IFIT1 in response to H9N2 virus infection or viral particle inoculation was more sensitive in HUVECs than in BEAS-2Bs. Our data offers new insight into the innate immune response of endothelial cells to H9N2 virus infection.

  • In these studies, semibatch emulsion copolymerization of n-butyl acrylate (n-BA) as adhesive component and methyl metacrylate (MMA) as coagulant component was carried out in order to investigate the role of surfactant in aqueous phase for polymer cement. It was found that the particle size and concentration of final polymer are affected by surfactant type used. The effect of nonionic surfactants was shown in the decrease of polymer emulsion concentration and small emulsion particle in order of LE-50, NP-50 > CE-50, Tween 20 > TX-405 > Brij 35. In LE and NP (n=7-50) as nonionic surfactant, it could be obtained the stable polymer emulsion of 40% in aqueous phase with average particle size of 250-320 nm using over n=30. On the other hand, the effect of surfactant type in initial reactor charge was shown that when SDS as ionic surfactant was used, the polymer emulsion concentration was constant irrespective of the amount used, whereas CTAB as cationic surfactant and HN-100 as reactive surfactant were shown a tendency to the decrease of that. The effect surfactant type on final polymer particle size was shown in decrease by the order of SDS > CTAB > HN-100.

  • The object of this study was to interpret the ralationship between expandability (% $S_{XRD}$), MacEwan crystallite thickness ( $N_{CSD}$), and mean fundamental particle thickness ( $N_{F}$ ) in illite-semctite mixed layer (I-S), quantitatively. This interpretation was extracted from comparison of two structural models (MacEwan crystallite model and fundamental particle model) of I-S mixed layers. In I-S structure, % $S_{XRD}$, $N_{CSD}$, and $N_{F}$ are not independent parameters but are related to each others by particular geometric relations. % $S_{XRD}$ is dependent on $N_{CSD}$ by short-stack effect, whereas, % $S_{XRD}$ and $N_{F}$ have relation to smectite interlayer number (Ns)=( $N_{F-}$1)/(100%/% $S_{XRD-}$ $N_{F}$ . Therefore, % $S_{XRD}$ and $N_{F}$ should satisfy a specific physical condition, 1< $N_{F}$ <100%/% $S_{XRD}$, because $N_{s}$ is positive. Based on this condition, this study suggested % $S_{XRD}$ vs $N_{F}$ diagram which can be used to interpret % $S_{XRD}$, $N_{F}$ , $N_{S}$ , and ordering, quantitatively. The diagram was examined by XRD data for I-S samples from Ceumseongsan volcanic complex, Korea. I-S samples showed that $N_{F}$ departs from the physical upper-limit ( $N_{F}$ =100%/% $S_{XRD}$) with decrease in % $S_{XRD}$. This phenomenon may happen due to decrease of stacking-capability of fundamental particles with their thickening.g.s with their thickening.g.

  • $Si_{3}N_{4}/SiC$ nanocomposites reinforced with tow different mean particle size were fabricated by hot press. Grain growth of matrix gran was inhibited by adding of SiC particles, and then number of equiaxed and fine grains were increased. The effect of grain growth inhibition was higher in the nanocomposites dispersed small size SiC. herefore fracture strength and hardness were increased, but fracture toughness was decreased in small size SiC dispersed samples.
