Many human-body motions such as walking, running, jumping, etc. require a significant amount of power. To achieve a high power-to-weight ratio of the humanoid robot system, this paper proposes a new design of the bio-mimetic leg mechanism resembling musculoskeletal system of the human body. The hip joints of the system considered here are powered by 5 human-like bi-and mono-articular muscles, and the joints of knee and ankle are redundantly actuated by both bi-articular muscles and joint actuators. The kinematics for the leg mechanism is derived and a kinematic index to measure force transmission ratio is introduced. It is demonstrated through simulation that incorporation of redundant muscles into the leg mechanism enhances the power of the mechanism approximately 2 times of the minimum actuation.
This study were to review of muscle imbalance of head, cervical and shoulder region. Head, cervical and shoulder region is a complicated mechanical unit. interconnected by numerous soft tissue links. These links, or articulation are functionaly and reflexly interdependent on one another. The line of gravity falls anterior to the transverse axis of rotation for flexion and extension of the head and creates a flexion moment. which tends to tut the head forward, is counteracted by tension in the tectorial membrane, and ligamentum nuchae, and by activity of the neck extensors. Therefore, the flexion moment equilibrate with the extension moment. Changing of the equilibrium will make mid cervical straight. It will make forward head posture(FHP) also. FHP makes imbalance of suboccipital muscles, suprahyoid muscles and infrahyoid muscles. It has some relationship with temporomandibular joint, spine and equilibrium of pelvis.

We report a 29-year old female who developed bilateral femoral neuropathy combined with multiple abscesses in both thigh muscles. She was present with weakness in both lower extremities for 15 days and intermittent chilling sense for 3 months. Nerve conduction study showed complete absence of compound muscle action potentials in bilateral femoral nerves when stimulated at inguinal area. Electromyographic examination revealed no motor unit action potentials in both rectus femoris and vastus medialis muscles. CT revealed multifocal abscesses in bilateral thigh muscles. After antibiotic treatment, the patient's neurologic symptoms were improved.
Purified myofibrils were prepared from ante-mortem stress and control lots of Taiwan country chicken breast and thigh muscles at death and afler storage at $4^{\circ}C$ for 0, 1, 2, 3, and 7 days post-mortem. Sodium dodecyl sulfate polycrylamide gel electrophoresis (3.2%) and densitometer were used to examine the effect of ante-mortem stress and control storage of muscle on titin and nebulin. Results indicated that titin and nebulin were more rapidly degraded in the control and the ante-mortem stress light muscles than in the control and ante-mortem dark muscles of Taiwan country chicken. In contrast, nebulin was shown to be more resistance to degradation in the ante-mortem stress dark muscle than in the control light muscle.
Muscle protein synthesis in vitro was measured in chicks fed low-protein(10% CP) and control(20% CP) diets. Right leg muscles (M. gastrocnemius) were mounted on a support made of stainless steel to stretch in constant tension, whereas left leg muscles were unmounted. Both leg muscles were incubated in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium including L-[$4-^3H$] phenylalanine for 60 min to measure in vitro protein synthesis. There was no significant difference in fractional synthesis rate(FSR) of muscle protein between both dietary protein levels, whereas FSR with stretch in constant tension was significantly higher than that without constant tension due to an increase in the absolute synthesis rate(ASR) per unit RNA(the efficiency of RNA to synthesize protein). The ASR of muscle protein in chicks fed the control diet was significantly higher than that in the low-protein diet group.
Anterior interosseous nerve syndrome is characterized by weakness of the flexor pollicis longus, the flexor digitorum profundus and the pronator quadratus in the presence of normal sensation. Although MR imaging findings of anterior interosseous nerve syndrome has been reported in a few articles, we report herein a case of anterior interosseous nerve syndrome involving more than usual muscles innervated by anterior interosseous nerve, caused by varient nerve innervation.
For human factor engineering and wearable robot design, the quantitative assessment of physical workload is needed. Through measuring the surface EMG (sEMG) and analysis, the physical workload in overhead lifting posture is presented in quantitative manner. By normalizing sEMG activities with maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), the inter-subject variability is reduced. In all muscles, %MVC increased as the weight of lifting object increases. In anterior deltoid muscle, the %MVC was 3-4 times higher than the other muscles which imply that this muscle performs the major role in the overhead lifting posture. In fatigue analysis, %MVC and the mean frequency in muscle of anterior deltoid changed markedly when compared with other muscles. Through the suggested procedures and analysis, the physical workload for a specific posture can be represented in quantitative way but the clinical meaning for the value should be investigated further.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare activities of shoulder girdle muscles according to types of closed chain exercise in the sixties. Methods: The subjects consisted of 15 persons in their sixties. Muscle activity of the pectoralis major, deltoid middle, deltoid posterior, upper trapezius, lower trapezius, and serratus anterior were measured using electromyography according to shape of the support base and angle of shoulder flexion. According to types of closed chain exercises, muscles activities were compared by paired t-test. Significance level to verify statistical significance was .05. SPSS win (ver. 22.0) program was used for statistical analysis. Results: Muscle activities of the pectoralis major, middle deltoid, trapezius lower, and serratus anterior showed significant difference according to types of closed chain exercise (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to types of closed chain exercises of the shoulder girdle, muscle activities of the pectoralis major, deltoid middle, posterior and lower trapezius showed change of muscle activities.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether changes in electromyography (EMG) activations of spinal stability muscles with respiratory demand change were due to changes in respiratory demand or in postural demand. Methods: Forty healthy subjects (19male, 21female, $20.8{\pm}1.9$years old) performed quiet breathing and four different forced respiratory maneuvers (FRM) (Pulsed Lip Breathing, Diaphragmatic Breathing, Combination breathing, and respiratory muscle endurance training breathing) while in sitting and standing positions. EMG data for four muscles (TrA/IO, EO, RA, and ES) were collected and filtered using a band pass filter (20~200Hz) and a notch filter (60, 120, 180Hz). Results: There were no significant differences on percentage of change on %MVIC between QB and FRM (PLB, CB, DB, and RMET) between positions (all p>0.05).

Muscular involvement in Behcet's disease is rare manifestation in spite of basic characteristic that is vasculitis can invade multi-organ of the entire body. A few cases has been announced involving the lower extremities, the arm and generalized weakness. Like our case, myositis involving the masticatory muscles with clinically diagnosed Behcet's disease was presented with the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the clinical findings, which is, not yet documented in the literature.
