In this paper, we propose a preamble structure and synchronization/channel estimation methods for OFDM-based multiple antenna WLAN systems that have 200Mbps transmit rate. With the proposed preamble structure, multiple antenna WLAN systems are backward-compatible with IEEE 802.11a systems which use the same 5㎓ band and synchronization performance is better than that of single antenna OFDM systems. For channel estimation, the preamble overhead is small and performance degradation by timing synchronization error that causes the critical problem of conventional comb-type multiple antenna channel estimation method also can be minimized by frequency domain phase recovery. Synchronizer and channel estimator for proposed preamble structure are implemented and verified using Verilog HDL. For the system with 4 transmit antennas and 4 receive antennas, about 150K gates are needed for synchronizer and 12K gates for channel estimator.

In this paper, we propose adaptive algorithms for interference cancellation in RF repeaters with multiple transmit and receive antennas. When multiple antennas are used in a repeater, the imperfect isolation between transmit and receive antennas causes the feedback interference which is modeled as multi-input multi-output (MIMO) channel. To remove the feedback interference, we derive the least mean square (LMS) algorithm and the recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm for interference cancellation based on adaptive signal processing techniques. Through computer simulations for the proposed algorithms, we analyze the convergence characteristics and compare the steady-state performance for interference cancellation.

In this paper, we proposed a trellis coded Multi-Carrier CDMA 16 QAM system with multiple transmit/receive antenna diversity technique, which is simple and suitable for indoor wireless communications. The proposed multiple transmit/receive antenna diversity technique is that the transmitter sends a trellis coded Multi-Carrier CDMA 16 QAM signal from multiple transmitting antennas with intentional time delays, which makes a receiver possible to distinguish and combine the signals from different antennas. In wireless indoor communication system, if we allow the increase of the complexity of the system, it is also possible to achieve additional diversity gain in the performance with the combination of the proposed technique and the conventional receiving antenna diversity. Furthermore, we have found that the proposed trellis coded Multi-Carrier CDMA 16 QAM system, which employs multiple transmit/receive antenna, is less sensitive to the multiple user interference and fading than conventional receiving antenna diversity systems.

For the purpose of providing high data rate real-time services, radio transmission technologies (RTT) for ship ad-hoc network (SANET) based on the Recommendation ITU-R 1842-1 are designed. Physical layer parameters of SANET are contrived to meet the requirements of the specification. In order to improve the link reliability for SANET, in this paper, we investigate the performance of the SANET with the multiple antennas, where receive combining (RC), transmit diversity (TD), and beamforming (BF) are employed, respectively. Based on the analysis of the packet error rate (PER) under the highly correlated maritime wireless channel model, we select the efficient multiple antenna schemes for SANET to improve the link reliability. In addition, the optimal MCS levels for the single-carrier (SC) SANET with the bandwidth of 25 kHz, and the multi-carrier (MC) SANET with the bandwidth of 50 kHz and 100 kHz are finalized.

Up to now, many state-of-arts have been proposed for two-way relaying system with linear modulations. The performances of antenna selection (AS) at both transmit and relay nodes need to be investigated in some two-way relaying multiple-input multiple-output (TWRM) systems. In this paper, the goal is focused on the study of nonlinear modulations, i.e., continuous phase modulation (CPM) in TWRM systems. Firstly, the joint phase trellis are simplified by reversed Rimoldi processing so as to reduce the systems' complexity. Then the performances of joint transmit and receive antenna selection (JTRAS) with CPM modulations in two-way relaying MIMO systems are analyzed. More exactly, the pair wise probability (PEP) is used to evaluate the error performance based on the CPM signal matrix, which is calculated in terms of Laurent expression. Since the channels subject to two terminal nodes share common antennas at relay node R in multiple-access scheme, we revise the JTRAS algorithm and compare it to existing algorithm via simulation. Finally, the error performances for various schemes of antenna selection are simulated and compared to the analysis in this paper.

In this paper, we proposed a modified ML detector for generalized spatial modulation which is a method among Multiple-input Multiple-output. This proposed method detects signal applying modified channel statement information based on priority. Complexity in conventional methods increases as increasing the number of active antennas. To solve this problem, we proposed a new ML method using static channel information decided by the number of transmit antennas and the number of receive antennas. This method detects active antennas one by one through priority. The proposed method has proved benefit on complexity compared with conventional method through simulations. When the number of transmit antennas is equal to 10, there is approximately 45% complexity reduction.

This paper considers the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) detection under ideal fast fading. For $N_t$ transmit and $N_r({\geq}N_t)$ receive antennas, we derive the achievable ergodic capacity of MMSE detection exactly. When MMSE detection is considered in a receiver, we introduce a different approach that gives the approximation of a MIMO channel capacity at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The difference between the channel capacity and the achievable capacity of MMSE detection converges to some constant that depends only on the number of antennas. We validate the analytical results by comparing them with Monte Carlo simulated results.

In almost all schemes of cooperative cognitive radio networks (CCRN), the users transmit and receive signals in half-duplex mode. In this paper, a design of CCRN adopting the full-duplex (FD) technique is addressed. In order to enable FD communication among users in the CCRN, simultaneous transmitting and receiving antennas are employed for the secondary users. Preliminary results from analysis and numerical evaluation indicate that the proposed FD multiple-input-multiple-output CCRN framework can provide a performance gain over the conventional CCRN frameworks.

Most multimedia source coders exhibit unequal bit error sensitivity. Efficient transmission system design should therefore incorporate the use of matching unequal error protection (UEP). In this paper, we present and evaluate a flexible space-time coding system with unequal error protection. Multiple transmit and receive antennas and bit-interleaved coded modulation techniques are used combined with rate compatible punctured convolutional codes. A near optimum iterative receiver is employed with a multiple-in multiple-out inverse mapper and a MAP decoder as component decoders. We illustrate how the UEP system gain can be achieved either as a power or bandwidth gain compared to the equal error protection system (EEP) for the identical source and equal overall quality for both the UEP and EEP systems. An example with two/three transmit and two receive antennas using BPSK modulation is given for the block fading channel.

Future wireless communication systems will employ spatial multiplexing with multiple antennas at both transmitter and receiver to take advantage of larger capacity gains as compared to the systems that use a single antenna. However, in order to reduce higher hardware costs and computational burden, it will require an efficient transmit-receive antenna selection algorithm, which we propose in this paper. Through simulation and comparative analysis of various existing methods and the one we propose in this paper, the algorithm we propose was validated as nearer to the optimal selection technique than existing nearly optimal antenna selection schemes.
