  • In this paper, we propose user-centric immersible and interactive electronic book based on the interface of tabletop display. Electronic book is usually used for users that want to read the text book with multimedia contents like video, audio, animation and etc. It is based on tabletop display platform then the conventional input device like keyboard and mouse is not essentially needed. Users can interact with the contents based on the gestures defined for the interface of tabletop display using hand finger touches then it gives superior and effective interface for users to use the electronic book interestingly. This interface supports multiple users then it gives more diverse effects on the conventional electronic contents just made for one user. In this paper our method gives new way for the conventional electronics book and it can define the user-centric gestures and help users to interact with the book easily. We expect our method can be utilized for many edutainment contents.

  • Due to the development of Internet, number of online documents and the amount of web services are increasing dramatically. However, there are several procedures required, before you actually find what you were looking for. These procedures are necessary to Internet users, but it takes time to search. As a method to systematize and simplify this repetitive job, this paper suggests a DotQuery based interactive search agent. This agent enables a user to search, from his computer, a plenty of information through the DotQuery service. which includes natural languages. and it executes several procedures required instead. This agent also functions as a plug-in service within general web browsers such as Internet Explorer and decodes the DotQuery service. Then it analyzes the DotQuery from a user through its own program and acquires service results through multiple browsers of its own.

  • Personalized media includes user-targeted and user-generated content (UGC) exchanged through social media and interactive applications. The increased consumption of UGC presents challenges and opportunities to multimedia information systems. We work towards modeling a deep structure for content networks. To gain insights, a hybrid practice with Media Framework (MF) is presented for network creation of personalized media, which leverages the authoring methodology with user-generated semantics. The system's vertical integration allows users to audition their personalized media networks in the context of a global system network. A navigation scheme with dynamic GUI shifts the interaction paradigm for content query and sharing. MF adopts a multimodal architecture anticipating emerging use cases and genres. To model diversification of platforms, information processing is robust across multiple technology configurations. Physical and virtual networks are integrated with distributed services and transactions, IoT, and semantic networks representing media content. MF applies spatiotemporal and semantic signal processing to differentiate action responsiveness and information responsiveness. The extension of multimedia information processing into authoring enables generating interactive and impermanent media on computationally enabled devices. The outcome of this integrated approach with presented methodologies demonstrates a paradigmatic shift of the concept of UGC as personalized media network, which is dynamical and evolvable.

  • Designers, who design industry products, use CAD(Computer Aided Design) tools for making new design and looking around virtual 3D models. Hand-drawings and sketches show only one viewpoint limiting 3D perception. However, CAD system that provides automation and multiple view points, can help to save time and cost. Accordingly, we developed Augmented Reality(AR) and Rapid Prototyping(RP) based product design system that is interactive and realistic This AR based design system utilize mockups that are made of urethane and styrofoam where as users change 3D model's color, texture and user interface. These interactive ways help to evaluate design more instinctively.

  • We describe a vision of historical analysis at the world scale, through the digital assembly of historical sources into a cloud-based database, where machine-learning techniques can be used to summarize the database into a time-integrated actor-to-actor complex network. Using this time-integrated network as a template, we then apply the method of automatic narratives to discover key actors ('who'), key events ('what'), key periods ('when'), key locations ('where'), key motives ('why'), and key actions ('how') that can be presented as hypotheses to world historians. We show two test cases on how this method works. To accelerate the pace of knowledge discovery and verification, we describe how historians would interact with these automatic narratives through an online, map-based knowledge aggregator that learns how scholars filter information, and eventually takes over this function to free historians from the more important tasks of verification, and stitching together coherent storylines. Ultimately, multiple coherent storylines that are not necessary compatible with each other can be discovered through human-computer interactions by the map-based knowledge aggregator.

  • An interactive and iterative design method based on the constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) technique was developed to generate an ergonomically sound layout of a control panel. This control panel layout method attempts to incorporate a variety of relevant ergonomic principles and design constraints, and generate an optimal or, at least, a "satisfactory" solution through iterative interactions with the designer. The existing panel design and layout methods are mostly based on the optimization of single objective function formulated to reflect and trade off all ergonomic design objectives which are largely different in their nature. In fact, the problem of seeking an ergonomically sound panel design should be viewed as a multiple objective optimization problem. Furthermore, most of the design objectives should be understood as constraints rather than objectives to be optimized. Hence, a constraint satisfaction approach is proposed in this study as a framework for the panel designer to search through the design decision space effectively and make various design decisions iteratively. In order to apply the constraint satisfaction approach to the panel design procedure, the ergonomic principles such as frequency-of-use, importance, functional grouping, and sequence-of-use are formalized as CSP terms. With this formalization, a prototype system was implemented and applied to panel layout problems. The results clearly showed the effectiveness of the proposed approach since it permits designers to consider and iteratively evaluate various design constraints and ergonomic principles, and, therefore, aids the panel designer to come up with an ergonomically sound control panel layout.

  • We propose a novel method for the registration of 3D CT scans to 2D endoscopic images during the image-guided medialization laryngoplasty. This study aims to allow the surgeon to find the precise configuration of the implant and place it into the desired location by employing accurate registration methods of the 3D CT data to intra-operative patient and interactive visualization tools for the registered images. In this study, the proposed registration methods enable the surgeon to compare the outcome of the procedure to the pre-planned shape by matching the vocal folds in the CT rendered images to the endoscopic images. The 3D image fusion provides an interactive and intuitive guidance for surgeon by visualizing a combined and correlated relationship of the multiple imaging modalities. The 3D Magic Lens helps to effectively visualize laryngeal anatomical structures by applying different transparencies and transfer functions to the region of interest. The preliminary results of the study demonstrated that the proposed method can be readily extended for image-guided surgery of real patients.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this Study was to identify the factors that affect the caregiving burdens felt by the female family caregivers and quality of caregiving. Method: The subjects were 247 female family caregivers who were living with the elderly and were residing in Seoul. Data was collected from June 30, 2000 to Agust 11 by using questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and hierarchial multiple regression with SAS/PC. Result: Situational factors had the greatest influence on the caregiving burdens. While the interactive factors of discrepancy between past and present image of elder and the caregiving belief were proven to be significant, the former had greater influence. The factors affecting the quality of caregiving, this is greatly influenced by situational factors and interactive factors. The discrepancy between past and present image of elder had relatively little influence while caregiving belief had the greatest influence. Among the situational factors, family stress had the greatest influence, while the caregiving burdens had little influence on the quality of caregiving. Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of caregiving in elderly by the female caregiver in the family, and to reduce the caregiving burdens, it is important to consider variables related to interaction as well as those directly concerned with caregiver and the elderly for nursing intervention.

  • Against the backdrop of Habermas' theory of communicative action, we empirically analyzed the level of interactivity and narratives offered in nation-states' ministry of foreign affairs Web sites. A multiple regression analysis was performed in an attempt to identify factors affecting the level of interactivity in such Web sites. Findings revealed that the level of economic development is the sole significant factor in regards to the level of interactivity. Further, self-interested, goal-directed, and strategic purposes behind the allegedly transparent, engaging, and interactive public diplomacy were evidenced through a critical analysis of the objectives, key issues, and target publics addressed and highlighted in the public diplomacy narratives on the Web. The results suggested a possible digital divide in the interactive adoption of Web public diplomacy as well as strategic motives and interests embedded in the public diplomacy communication on the Web. This study helps increase our understanding of the paradox of public diplomacy in the digital age.
