  • In cognitive radio technology, the overall capacity of communications systems can be improved without allocating additional bands by allowing secondary system to utilize the band when a primary system who has right to use the band does not utilize it. Therefore, spectrum sensing to determine the existence of primary system is utmost important in the cognitive radio technology. In this work, we consider a novel cooperative spectrum sensing in cognitive cellular systems. Especially, we consider the case in which heterogeneous primary systems coexist, i.e., heterogenous transmission power and sensing requirement of primary system, such that only portion of users in cognitive cellular systems are able to detect the primary system. In this case, we propose new cooperative spectrum sensing with multiple sensing stages to properly detect the existence of primary systems in this kind of situations. Moreover, we analyze the performance of conventional cooperative spectrum sensing schemes such as OR-rule, AND-rule and MAJORITY-rule under the existence of heterogeneous primary systems. Finally, we investigate the performance of the proposed scheme through computer based simulations and show that the existence of primary systems can be determined accurately by using our proposed scheme.

  • Ship object detection is a technique to detect the existence and the location of ship when ship objects are shown on input image sequence, and there are wide variations in accuracy due to environmental changes and noise of input image. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, we propose multiple ship object detection based on background registration technique and morphology operation. The proposed method consists of the following five steps: background elimination step, noise elimination step, object standard position setting step, object restructure step, and multiple object detection steps. The experimental results show accurate and real-time ship detection for 15 different test sequences with a detection rate of 98.7%, and robustness against variable environment. The proposed method may be helpful as the base technique of sea surface monitoring or automatic ship sailing.

  • The explosive growth of wireless network users and the existence of various wireless services have demanded high rate throughput as well as user's QoS guarantees. Towards this, this paper proposes QoS-oriented subcarrier allocation scheme considering the QoS provisioning of multiple users, which is major requirement for wireless network design point of view. This paper introduces joint RR/K&H combined with M-LWDF(Modified Largest Weighted Delay First) scheme throughout observing statistical channel behavior and real time queuing analysis for appropriate resource allocation tightly connected to multiuser scheduling. Accordingly, the system throughput can be enhanced, and the QoS demanded for delay sensitive services can be satisfied. Furthermore, the proposed scheme is applied for OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) systems to allocate sub-carriers in optimal way. The simulation results verify plausible performances of proposed resource allocation scheme via showing superior effective capacity under time-varying physical-layer channel behaviors.

  • MJoin is proposed as an algorithm to join multiple data streams efficiently, whose characteristics are unpredictably changed. It extends a symmetric hash join to handle multiple data streams. Whenever a tuple arrives from a remote stream source, MJoin checks whether all of hash tables have matching tuples. However, when a join involves many data streams with low join selectivity, the performance of this checking process is significantly influenced by the checking order of hash tables. In this paper, we propose a BiHT-Join algorithm which extends MJoin to conduct this checking in a constant time regardless of a join order. BiHT-Join maintains a bit-vector which represents the existence of tuples in streams and decides a successful/unsuccessful join through comparing a bit-vector. Based on the bit-vector comparison, BiHT-Join can conduct a hash join only for successful joining tuples based on this decision. Our experimental results show that the proposed BiHT-Join provides better performance than MJoin in the processing of multiple streams.

  • In general, there can be many reusable intermediate results due to the overlapped windows and periodic execution intervals among Multiple Continuous Queries (MCQ) on data streams. In this regard, we propose an efficient greedy algorithm for a global query plan construction, called GAGPC. GAGPC first decides an execution cycle and finds the maximal Set(s) of Related execution Points (SRP). Next, GAGPC constructs a global execution plan to make MCQ share common join-fragments with the highest benefit in each SRP. The algorithm suggests that the best plan of the same continuous queries may be different according to not only the existence of common expressions, but the size of overlapped windows related to them. It also reflects to reuse not only the whole but partial intermediate results unlike previous work. Finally, we show experimental results for the validation of GAGPC.

  • The Blow-off characteristics of LPG/air lean pre-mixed flames were experimentally investigated using a double and a multiple concentric coflow burners. Experiments were conducted to understand the effects of recirculation motion, thermal interaction between flames, and stratified flame configuration. Here, the stratified premixed flame is a "new concept" of a flame that sequentially contains fuel rich, stoichiometric, and fuel lean reaction zones in a flame. The blow-off from a lean premixed flame was significantly suppressed with recirculation motion. The recirculation motion by itself, however, was not sufficient to prevent the blow-off when the equivalence ratio became low. The existence of a inner premixed flame could also help to prevent the blow-off of lean premixed flame; however, the blow-off suppression effect was rather diminished by weakened recirculation motion with the presence of inner flame. The inner flame could be separated from an outer flame on a multiple concentric coflow burner, causing recirculation motion as well as thermal interaction between flames to become effective; therefore, the blow-off was further suppressed. The lean premixed flame could be stabilized with a fuel rich premixed flames that was produced with the supply of fuel through an inner nozzle. The penetration of lean premixed gas from outside into the fuel stream produced a lifted rich premixed flame. Chemiluminescence images of OH, CH, and $C_2$ radicals confirmed the structure of a stratified premixed flame. The stable premixed flames could be obtained at the very fuel lean condition by applying the stratified premixed flame concept.

  • A cDNA clone encoding chloroplast triosephosphate isomerase (TPI-cp) was isolated from strawberry fruit cDNA library. Sequence analyses indicated that the cDNA contains an open reading frame of 314 amino acids (33.5 kDa) composed of a transit peptide (59 amino acids) in amino terminal region and mature protein (255 amino acids). The existence of transit peptide in the deduced amino acid sequence implies that it encodes a chloroplast isoform. The protein sequence is more similar to other plant chloroplast isoforms than cytosolic isoforms. RNA blot analysis indicated that its expression is ubiquitous in examined five tissues, flowers, leaves, petioles, roots and fruits, and shows differential pattern according to fruit ripening. Genomic DNA blot analysis showed that TPI-cp is encoded by multiple genes in strawberry. Through sequence comparison and phylogenetic tree construction, TPI-cp is distinctively grouped into dicot and chloroplast isoforms.

  • The nonuniqueness of a mathematically rigorous solution to 2-dimensional inverse scattering problems is explained in a limiting view of the numerical calculations based on the spectral-domain moment method. It is illustrated that its theoretical uniqueness cannot be assured even by performing additional measurements of the scattered fields not only along multiple lines but also with angular/frequency-diversities. In a real situation, however, computational error and measurement noise are inevitable. Those limitations render it meaningless to controvert the existence of a theoretically rigorous solution. Hence the most practical issue is how to remedy the instability of its practically approximate solution.

  • While investigating the Lauricella's list of 14 complete second-order hypergeometric series in three variables, Srivastava noticed the existence of three additional complete triple hypergeo-metric series of the second order, which were denoted by $H_A$, $H_B$ and $H_C$. Each of these three triple hypergeometric functions $H_A$, $H_B$ and $H_C$ has been investigated extensively in many different ways including, for example, in the problem of finding their integral representations of one kind or the other. Here, in this paper, we aim at presenting further integral representations for the Srivatava's triple hypergeometric function $H_C$.
