  • Accurate hospital case modeling and prediction are crucial for efficient healthcare. In this study, we demonstrate the implementation of regression analysis methods in machine learning systems utilizing mathematical statics and machine learning techniques. The developed machine learning model includes Bayesian linear, artificial neural network, decision tree, decision forest, and linear regression analysis models. Through the application of these algorithms, corresponding regression models were constructed and analyzed. The results suggest the potential of leveraging machine learning systems for medical research. The experiment aimed to create an Azure Machine Learning Studio tool for the speedy evaluation of multiple regression models. The tool faciliates the comparision of 5 types of regression models in a unified experiment and presents assessment results with performance metrics. Evaluation of regression machine learning models highlighted the advantages of boosted decision tree regression, and decision forest regression in hospital case prediction. These findings could lay the groundwork for the deliberate development of new directions in medical data processing and decision making. Furthermore, potential avenues for future research may include exploring methods such as clustering, classification, and anomaly detection in healthcare systems.

  • The lighting reflection is a common problem in image analysis and causes the many difficulties to extract distinct features in related fields. Furthermore, the problem grows in the rainy night. In this paper, we aim to remove light reflection effects and reconstruct a road surface without lighting reflections in order to extract distinct features. The proposed method utilizes a 3D analysis based on a multiple geometry using captured images, with which we can combine each reflected areas; that is, we can remove lighting reflection effects and reconstruct the surface. At first, the regions of lighting sources and reflected surfaces are extracted by local maxima based on vertically projected intensity-histograms. After that, a fundamental matrix and homography matrix among multiple images are calculated by corresponding points in each image. Finally, we combine each surface by selecting minimum value among multiple images and replace it on a target image. The proposed method can reduces lighting reflection effects and the property on the surface is not lost. While the experimental results with collected data shows plausible performance comparing to the speed, reflection-overlapping areas which can not be reconstructed remain in the result. In order to solve this problem, a new reflection model needs to be constructed.

  • The esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is thought to develop through a multi-stage process. Epigenetic gene silencing constitutes an alternative or complementary mechanism to mutational events in tumorigenesis. Posttranscriptional regulation of human leukocyte antigen class I (HLA-I) and antigen processing machinery (APM) proteins expression may be associated with novel epigenetic modifications in cancer development. In the present study, we determined the expression levels of HLA-I antigen and APM components by immunohistochemistry. Then by a bisulfite-sequencing PCR (BSP) approach, we identified target CpG islands methylated at the gene promoter region of APM family genes in a ESCC cell line (ECa109), and further quantitative analysis of CpG site specific methylation of these genes in cases of Kazakh primary ESCCs with corresponding non-cancerous esophageal tissues using the Sequenom MassARRAY platform. Here we showed that the development of ESCCs was accompanied by partial or total loss of protein expression of HLA-B, TAP2, LMP7, tapasin and ERp57. The results demonstrated that although no statistical significance was found of global target CpG fragment methylation level sof HLA-B, TAP2, tapasin and ERp57 genes between ESCC and corresponding non-cancerous esophageal tissues, there was significant differences in the methylation level of several single sites between the two groups. Of thesse only the global methylation level of LMP7 gene target fragments was statistically higher ($0.0517{\pm}0.0357$) in Kazakh esophageal cancer than in neighboring normal tissues ($0.0380{\pm}0.0214$, p<0.05). Our results suggest that multiple CpG sites, but not methylation of every site leads to down regulation or deletion of gene expression. Only some of them result in genetic transcription, and silencing of HLA-B, ERp57, and LMP7 expression through hypermethylation of the promoters or other mechanisms may contribute to mechanisms of tumor escape from immune surveillance in Kazakh esophageal carcinogenesis.

  • The paradigm that ships are navigated by means of analog navigation devices and caption's experiences is shifted to that ships can be navigated by digital and autonomous navigation systems due to the rapid development of electronics and communication technologies. Hence, all systems deployed in a ship are automated and integrated since corresponding ship systems are not individually operated but integrated and managed under common operating system. In this paper, we overview recent research projects targeted for digitally integrated ships (referred to as digital ships), outline IEC 61162 series, specifying digital interface standards for digital ships, and finally present several issues for further improvement of the IEC 61162 series. In addition, we broadly categorize digital ships into three systems consisting of multiple sub-systems, including a navigation system, a power system, and a automation system in the aspect of operation and function. Corresponding interfacing range and method, as well as interface specification and data types of one system in a digital ship are also described according to sub-systems, respectively.

  • Historical records of earthquakes are generally used as a basis to extrapolate the instrumental earthquake catalog in time and space during the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA). However, the historical catalogs' input parameters determined through historical descriptions rather than any quantitative measurements are accompanied by considerable uncertainty in PSHA. Therefore, quantitative assessment to verify the historical earthquake parameters is essential for refining the reliability of PSHA. This study presents an approach and its application to constrain reliable ranges of the magnitude and corresponding epicenter of historical earthquakes. First, ranges rather than specific values of ground motion intensities are estimated at multiple locations with distances between each other for selected historical earthquakes by reviewing observed co-seismic natural phenomena, structural damage levels, or felt areas described in their historical records. Based on specific objective criteria, this study selects only one earthquake (July 24, 1643), which is potentially one of the largest historical earthquakes. Then, ground motion simulations are performed for sufficiently broadly distributed epicenters, with a regular grid to prevent one from relying on strong assumptions. Calculated peak ground accelerations and velocities in areas with the historical descriptions on corresponding earthquakes are converted to intensities with an empirical ground motion-intensity conversion equation to compare them with historical descriptions. For the ground motion simulation, ground motion prediction equations and a frequency-wavenumber method are used to consider the effects of possible source mechanisms and stress drop. From these quantitative calculations, reliable ranges of epicenters and magnitudes and the trade-off between them are inferred for the earthquake that can conservatively match the upper and lower boundaries of intensity values from historical descriptions.

  • This study conducts numerical modeling and eigen-analysis of a rod-fastened rotor, which is mainly used in aircraft gas turbine engines in which multiple disks are in contact through curvic coupling. Nayak's theory is adopted to calculate surface parameters measured from the tooth profile of the curvic coupling gear. Surface parameters are important design parameters for predicting the stiffness between contact surfaces. Based on the calculated surface parameters, elastoplastic contact analysis is performed according to the interference between two surfaces based on the Greenwood-Williamson model. The equivalent bending stiffness is predicted based on the shape and elastoplastic contact stiffness of the curvic coupling. An equation of motion of the rod-fastened rotor, including the bending stiffness of the curvic coupling, is developed. Methods for applying the bending stiffness of a curvic coupling to the equation of motion and for modeling the equation of motion of a rotor that includes both inner and outer rotors are introduced. Rotordynamic analysis is performed through one-dimensional finite element analysis, and each element is modeled based on Timoshenko beam theory. Changes in bending stiffness and the resultant critical speed change in accordance with the rod fastening force are predicted, and the corresponding mode shapes are analyzed.

  • In this study, we have proposed an estimation model of domestic market size using the linking between standard statistical classification systems, and reviewed the practical applicability of the model. The results of the mining and manufacturing survey of Statistics Korea conducted on the basis of KSIC (Korea Standard Industrial Classification) and Korea trade statistics based on HS (The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System; Harmonized System) classification were linked for the model by using the correspondence tables provided by Statistics Korea and United Nations Statistics Division. The most serious problem to adopt the integrated KSIC-ISIC-HS correspondence table for the estimation of domestic market size is the complex multiple linkages among KSIC and HS codes. In this study, we have suggested the method to divide the amount of trade corresponding to the HS codes linked to more than two ISIC codes based on the ratio of shipments corresponding to the ISIC codes as the weight. Then, it is possible to analyze the domestic market size of 125 ISIC codes in the manufacturing industry and to forecast the market size in the near future by using the model. Although the model has some limitations such as the difficulty in analysis on more subdivided items than ISIC items, the impossibility of the analysis on items in industries except for manufacturing, errors in the shipment due to some missing data, this study has significance in the sense that it provided the analysis method of domestic market size by using the most objective, reliable and sustainably useful data.

  • This paper presents the efficient structure and parameter optimization of downlink beamforming transmitter in OFDMA/TDD system. To design downlink beamforming transmitter for multiple transmit antennas, an efficient beamforming structure for multiple users and the choice of word-length of each block are critical in the aspect of its performance and hardware complexity. We propose an efficient beamforming scheme, which stores the weights of subcarriers into memory without user identification at the receiver of base station and calculates the weights for corresponding user in a subcarrier unit of IFFT input at high speed. Also, we obtain the word-length of main data path and other design parameters by fixed-point simulation analysis. The proposed architecture could reduce the memory size proportional to the maximum number of users per frame, and the processing time of an OFDM symbol at the receiver of base station without the need of additional processing time for calculating the weights at the transmitter.

  • The natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes of a non-uniform beam carrying multiple point masses are determined by using the analytical-and-numerical-combined method. To confirm the reliability of the last approach, all the presented results are compared with those obtained from the existing literature or the conventional finite element method and close agreement is achieved. For a "uniform" beam, the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the "clamped-hinged" beam are exactly equal to those of the "hinged-clamped" beam so that one eigenvalue equation is available for two boundary conditions, but this is not true for a "non-uniform" beam. To improve this drawback, a simple transformation function ${\varphi}({\xi})=(e+{\xi}{\alpha})^2$ is presented. Where ${\xi}=x/L$ is the ratio of the axial coordinate x to the beam length L, ${\alpha}$ is a taper constant for the non-uniform beam, e=1.0 for "positive" taper and e=1.0+$|{\alpha}|$ for "negative" taper (where $|{\alpha}|$ is the absolute value of ${\alpha}$). Based on the last function, the eigenvalue equation for a non-uniform beam with "positive" taper (with increasingly varying stiffness) is also available for that with "negative" taper (with decreasingly varying stiffness) so that half of the effort may be saved. For the purpose of comparison, the eigenvalue equations for a positively-tapered beam with five types of boundary conditions are derived. Besides, a general expression for the "normal" mode shapes of the non-uniform beam is also presented.
