  • The influence of the mined-out caves on the stability of the high speed railway tunnel was investigated with a series of geological logging and in-situ tests on the one hand, and with the rock mass classification using the multiple regression analysis on the other hand. The rock mass in this area can be classified as 'fair', and the condition of the discontinuities plays the most important role in the classification of the rock mass. The results of the analysis obtained by the FLAC showed that the western part of the tunnel locating at 50m above the mine cavities could be affected by subsidence associated with a considerable deformation, the magnitude of which might depend on the properties of the rock mass. Key word : multi regression analysis, subsidence, mine cavities

  • In this paper, we estimated the Direction of Arrival (DOA) using Conventional BeamForming (CBF), adaptive beamforming and compressive beamforming. Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) and Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) are used as the adaptive beamforming, and grid-free compressive sensing is applied for the compressive sensing beamforming. Theoretical background and limitations of each technique are introduced, and the performance of each technique is compared through simulation and real experiments. The real experiments are conducted in the presence of reflected signal, transmitting a sound using two speakers and receiving acoustic data through a linear array consisting of eight microphones. Simulation and experimental results show that the adaptive beamforming and the grid-free compressive beamforming have a higher resolution than conventional beamforming when there are uncorrelated signals. On the other hand, the performance of the adaptive beamforming is degraded by the reflected signals whereas the grid-free compressive beamforming still improves the conventional beamforming resolution regardless of reflected signal presence.

  • The Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) system based on Angle-of-Arrival(AOA) estimation, interference suppression, and transmission beamforming techniques is a cutting edge technology for efficiently collecting various signal information. In this paper, we present the efficient structure of a satellite system consisted of an AOA estimator, an adaptive beamformer, a signal processing and D/B unit, and a transmission beamformer, for collecting signal information. For accurately estimating AOAs of various signals, efficiently suppressing interference or jamming signals, and efficiently transmitting the collected information or data, we employ Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC), Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR), and Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) algorithms, respectively. Also, we evaluate and analysis the performance of the presented satellite system through the computer simulation.

  • The signal intelligence (SIGINT) technology is actively used for collecting various data, in a number of fields, including a military industry. In order to collect the signal information and data and to transmit/receive the collected data efficiently, the accurate angle-of-arrival (AOA) information is required and communication disturbance from the interference or jamming signal should be minimized. In this paper, we present the structure of an adaptive beam-forming satellite system based on the planar array antenna, for collecting and transmitting/receiving the signal information and data efficiently. The presented adaptive beam-forming system consists of an antenna in the form of a planar array, an AOA estimator based on the Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm, an adaptive Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) interference canceler, a signal processing and D/B unit, and a transmission beamformer based on Minimum mean Square Error (MMSE). In addition, through the computer simulation, we evaluate and analyze the performance of the proposed system.

  • The ABC analysis is a widely used inventory control technique which consists of classifying inventory items into three categories according to annual dollar usage and concentrating managerial efforts on the high value items. But its major weakness is that the classification is somewhat arbitrary and is made in the light of single criterion, the annual usage. In this paper, a modified approach using TOPSIS is proposed where 1) the inventory items are ranked, rather than classified into three categories, in the order of relative importance and 2) the latter is determined by considering the multiple criteria such as annual usage, difficulty of procurement, lead time and shelf life. A case study was performed with the field data from a company producing electronical parts. The rank order produced by TOPSIS was judged quite reasonable by the company inventory control manager.

Housing life style was measured using four variables : furniture usage pattern, space usage pattern, family living pattern and heating system. A final Instrument was developed through the two stage pilot surveys. The respondents were 1,292 home-makers of the middle and high economic classes In Seoul and Daejeon, selected through stratified random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using SAS computer packages. The statistics used were frequency, percentage, Pear-3on`s correlation coefficient, Multiple Linear Regression, X2, and cluster analysis. The major findings were as follows : Five representative types of housing life style were found through cluster analysis. They were conventional minimum level life style, conventional optimum famiIy-centered life style, eclectic family-centered life style, contemporary optimum family - centered and contemporary so-cial, leasure-oriented life style.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relative influence of OCM and BSM's family functioning dimensions and develop a new family system model related to adolescent adjustment. The 443 subjects were selected randomly from the second grade of middle and high schools in the city of Taegu. The survey instruments were FACESⅢ, SFI-Ⅱ, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Depression Scale, Self-Esteem Scale, and Delinquency Scale, Factor Analysis, Cronbach's α, Multiple Regression, MANOVA, Scheffe test were conducted for the data analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, OCM's and BSM's family functioning dimensions respectively had different relative influence that affected adolescent adjustment level. In anxiety and depression. BSM's family health/competence dimension had superior influence to any other family functioning dimensions and in self-esteem and delinquency, OCM's cohesion dimension was superior to any other family functions. Second, family system classification method by a new family system model using family cohesion(OCM's relationship dimension) and family health/competence(BSM's change dimension) was more useful than OCM in evaluating adolescent adjustment.

  • Korean property and liability insurance companies have underwrited hull insurance without proper undrewriting ability. But after April 1996. in case of Korean insurance market being opened the companies have to make hull insurance rate by themselves. Accordingly, in this study, the writer embodies important factors in making hull insurance rate by an empirical survey. In empirical survey, the writer used a questionnaire, 74 proper data was obtained from 96 officers working in making hull insurance rate in 12 Korean property and liablity insurance companies and 24 the foreign companies at home. Reliability was tested by Cronbach's Alpha and a conceptual validity by Factor Analysis. Hypothesis estabilished in this study was tested by Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis. Results of testing hypothesis are as follows: Firstly, the traits of insurer and the assured influence significantly(P<0.05) on making hull insurance rate. Secondly, expected loss ratio, ship manager, ship's age, insured amount, level of the cost of repairing and salvage, shipowner, period of insurance, level of overseas rating, profit and expense, trading limits, ship's classification, conditions of insurance, and ship's size influence significantly(P<0.05) on making hull insurance rate.

  • In satellite systems, efficient communication and observation require identifying of specific signal arrival points using onboard antenna systems. When utilizing massive array antennas to estimate the angle of arrival (AOA) of signals, traditional high-performance AOA estimation algorithms such as Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) encounter extremely high complexity due to the numerous individual antenna elements. Although, in order to improve this computational complexity problem, the cascade AOA estimation algorithm with CAPON and beamspace-MUSIC was recently proposed, the comparison of the computational complexity of the proposed algorithm across different massive array antenna configurations has not yet been conducted. In this paper, we provide the analyzed results of the computational complexity of the proposed cascade algorithm based on various massive array antennas, and determine an optimal antenna configuration for the efficient AOA estimation in satellite systems.
