The water droplet motion and the interaction between the droplets in a PEMFC air flow channel with multiple pores, through which water emerges, is studied numerically by solving the equations governing the conservation of mass and momentum. The liquid-gas interface is tracked by a level set method which is based on a sharp-interface representation for accurately imposing the matching conditions at the interface. The method is modified to implement the contact angle conditions on the walls and pores. The dynamic interaction between the droplets growing on multiple pores while keeping the total water flow rate through pores constant is investigated by conducting the computations until the droplet motion exhibits a periodic pattern. The numerical results show that the droplet merging caused by increasing the number of pores is not effective for water removal and that the contact angle of channel wall strongly affects water management in the PEMFC air flow channel.
This work investigates the progressive linear precoder design for packet retransmissions in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems with multiple codewords and automatic repeat request (ARQ) bundling feedback. Assuming perfect channel state information, a novel progressive linear ARQ precoder is proposed in the perspective of minimizing the packet error rate. We devise the ARQ precoder by combining power loading and sub channel pairing between current retransmission and previous transmissions. Furthermore, we extend the design to the case that the channel estimation error exists. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme can improve the performance of MIMO ARQ systems significantly regardless of the channel estimation error.

The fifth generation (5G) mobile communication has an impact on the human life over the whole world, nowadays, through the artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT). The low latency of the 5G new radio (NR) access is implemented by the state-of-the art technologies, such as non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). This paper investigates a practical issue that in NOMA, for the practical channel models, such as fading channel environments, the successive interference cancellation (SIC) should be performed on the stronger channel users with low power allocation. Only if the SIC is performed on the user with the stronger channel gain, NOMA performs better than orthogonal multiple access (OMA). Otherwise, NOMA performs worse than OMA. Such the superiority requirement can be easily implemented for the channel being static or slow varying, compared to the block interval time. However, most mobile channels experience fading. And symbol by symbol channel estimations and in turn each symbol time, selections of the SIC-performing user look infeasible in the practical environments. Then practically the block of symbols uses the single channel estimation, which is obtained by the training sequence at the head of the block. In this case, not all the symbol times the SIC is performed on the stronger channel user. Sometimes, we do perform the SIC on the weaker channel user; such cases, NOMA performs worse than OMA. Thus, we can say that by what percent NOMA is better than OMA. This paper calculates analytically the percentage by which NOMA performs better than OMA in the practical mobile communication systems. We show analytically that the percentage for NOMA being better than OMA is only the function of the ratio of the stronger channel gain variance to weaker. In result, not always, but almost time, NOMA could perform better than OMA.

In this thesis, we analyze performance related to reduction scheme of intercell interference causing serious problems in wiBro system. Frequency reusing factor(FUF) is 1 in WiBro system, and it means that a adjacent cell uses same frequency band. This channel environment raises intercell interference problem, which provokes serious problems related to system performance and channel capacity. Consequently, it affects deterioration in system performance as a whole. We analyze intercell interference when appling a various schemes such as (DCA)Dynamic Channel Allocation, CS(Channel Segregation), IMUFR(Interference Mitigation Using Frequency Reuse), IDMA(Interleave Division Multiple Access), IDMA(Interleave Division Multiple Access), FH-OFDM, CRSA(Conceptual Random Subcarrier Allocation), and HDD

In this paper, we investigate an individual channel estimation problem for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) two-way amplify-and-forward (AF) relay networks. To avoid self-interference during the estimation of the individual MIMO channels, a novel blind interference cancellation (BIC) approach is proposed based on an orthogonal preceding framework, where a pair of orthogonal precoding matrices is utilized at the source nodes. By designing an optimal decoding scheme, we propose to decompose the bidirectional transmission into a pair of unidirectional transmissions. Unlike most existing approaches, we make the practical assumption that the nonreciprocal MIMO channel and the mutual interference of multiple antennas are both taken into consideration. Under the precoding framework, we employ an orthogonal superimposed training strategy to obtain the individual MIMO channels. However, the AF strategy causes the noise at the terminal to be the sum of the local noise and the relay-propagated noise. To remove the relay-propagated noise during the estimation of the second-hop channel, a partial noise-nulling method is designed. We also derive a closed-form expression for the total mean square error (MSE) of the MIMO channel from which we compute the optimal power allocation. The simulation results demonstrate that the analytical and simulated curves match fully.

In this article, the uplink achievable rate is investigated for massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) under correlated Ricean fading channel, where each base station (BS) and user are both deployed multiple antennas. Considering the availability of prior knowledge at BS, two different channel estimation approaches are adopted with and without prior knowledge. Based on these channel estimations, a two-layer decoding scheme is adopted with maximum ratio precoding as the first layer decoder and optimal second layer precoding in the second layer. Based on two aforementioned channel estimations and two-layer decoding scheme, the exact closed form expressions for uplink achievable rates are computed with and without prior knowledge, respectively. These derived expressions enable us to analyze the impacts of line-of-sight (LoS) component, two-layer decoding, data transmit power, pilot contamination, and spatially correlated Ricean fading. Then, numerical results illustrate that the system with spatially correlated Ricean fading channel is superior in terms of uplink achievable rate. Besides, it reveals that compared with the single-layer decoding, the two-layer decoding scheme can significantly improve the uplink achievable rate performance.
In this paper, we propose a new relay selection algorithm for a two-way multiple relay channel. In the two-way multiple relay channel, two users exchange information with each other via multiple relays. The relays use a decode-and-forward or amplify-and-forward protocol, and exploit the combining process of the received packets to reduce the required channel resources. In the multiple relay network, diversity gain is achieved as the number of relays increases, and various schemes are proposed. In this paper, we propose a single best relay selection scheme based on instantaneous channel conditions. First of all, relays obtain the instantaneous channel state information in the handshaking process, and a single best relay is selected in a distributed methods prior to data transmissions. The relay selection metric is proposed so that the end-to-end channel condition is evaluated based on the intantaneous channel state informations. Simulation results show that the proposed relay selection algorithm achieve the increased throughput and diversity order when the number of potential relays is increased.

In this paper, we propose a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) method based on channel alignment to simultaneously transmit multiple unicast and multicast streams in frequency-efficient manner. In this method, all receivers in a multicast cluster use the receive beamforming vectors that align their channels, and the base station uses the aligned channel information to design the transmit beamforming vectors that eliminate interference between multicast clusters. Using the effective receive channel information combined with the transmit beamforming vectors, unicast receivers design their own receive beamforming vectors that eliminate interference between unicast receivers. Since the proposed method effectively eliminates the interference, it achieves a higher sum rate than the existing orthogonal multiple access (OMA) method in high SNR regions. In addition, we present a hybrid method that exploits the benefits of the proposed NOMA method and the existing OMA method. Depending on the channel state, the hybrid method adaptively employs the existing OMA method, which improves the received signal power, in low SNR regions and the proposed NOMA method, which effectively eliminates the interference, in high SNR regions, thereby achieving a good sum rate over the entire SNR region.
Gaudi, Naber & Sackett pointed out that if an event is caused by a lens system containing more than two planets, all planets will affect the central region of the magnification pattern, and thus the existence of the multiple planets can be inferred by detecting additionally deformed anomalies from intensive monitoring of high magnification microlensing events. Unfortunately, this method has important limitations in identifying the existence of multiple planets and determining their parameters (the mass ratio and the instantaneous projected separation) due to the degeneracy of the resulting light curve anomalies from those induced by a single planet and the complexity of multiple planet lensing models. In this paper, we propose a new channel to search for multiple planets via microlensing. The method is based on the fact that the lensing light curve anomalies induced by multiple planets are well approximated by the superposition of those of the single planet systems where the individual planet-primary pairs act as independent lens systems. Then, if the source trajectory passes both of the outer deviation regions induced by the individual planets, one can unambiguously identify the existence of the multiple planets. We illustrate that the probability of successively detecting light curve anomalies induced by two Jovian-mass planets located in the lensing zone through this channel will be substantial. Since the individual anomalies can be well described by much simpler single planet lensing models, the proposed method has an important advantage of allowing one to accurately determine the parameters of the individual planets.

This paper presents a feedback method for improving the system capacity of MU-MIMO system for downlink channel environments. In a typical conventional feedback method, CVQ, in order to enhance the channel capacity, not only the feedback load is increased but also the quantization of the channel vector is increased, because the channel parameter of each user has to be fed back after quantizing one of the pre-defined N-codebook vectors. In this paper, a novel feedback method is proposed which provides an improved system capacity by transferring the channel state information without increasing the feedback load. Performance of the proposed method is compared to the conventional CVQ method through computer simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed method with 3-bit feedback provides a system capacity comparable to the CVQ method of 6-bit feedback when the number of transmit antennas is 2.
