Co-located and space-shared multiple-input multiple-output antenna module and its applications in 12 × 12 multiple-input multiple-output systems

  • In this study, we developed a co-located and space-shared multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna module with a modular design and high integration level. The proposed antenna pair includes a half-wavelength loop antenna and a dipole-type antenna printed on the front and back sides of a compact modular board. Owing to their modal orthogonality, these two independent antenna elements are highly self-isolated and free of additional decoupling components, even though they are assembled at the same location and within the same space. Thus, the proposed antenna is attractive in 5G MIMO systems. Furthermore, the proposed co-located and space-shared MIMO antenna module was employed in a 5G smartphone to verify their radiation and diversity performances. A 12 × 12 MIMO antenna system was simulated and fabricated using the proposed module. Based on the results, the proposed module can be employed in large-scale MIMO antenna systems for current and future terminal devices owing to its high integration, compactness, simple implementation, and inherent isolation.

Parallel-fed Multiple Loop Antenna for 13.56MHz RFID Reader

  • In this paper, we suggest a new antenna structure for RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) reader. Conventional RFID reader uses a loop antenna. The central area of a loop antenna shows a low magnetic field strength especially for the case of a large loop antenna diameter. We propose a parallel-fed multiple loop antenna. Simulation results and measured results show that we can adjust field distribution with the number of turns and diameter of an inner loop antenna to obtain a longer reading distance. Simulation results for the specific case of a proposed antenna structure show that at the center point of a proposed parallel-fed multiple loop antenna, the typical card area averaged magnetic field strength is 2.53A/m, which is higher than the case of a conventional type single loop antenna of 0.44A/m and the case of a series-fed multiple loop antenna of 0.96A/m when we drive with same source signal. We realized the antenna for the case of 13.56MHz RFID reader and the performance of reading distance was much more improved than the case of a conventional antenna.

  • 본 논문에서는 OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) 기반 다중 안테나 시스템의 링크레벨 성능 분석을 위하여 실제 전파 환경과 유사한 특성을 갖는 Ray-tracing 방식 채널의 하나인 SCM(Spatial Channel Model) 채널을 구현한다. 3GPP & 3GPP2 Spatial Channel AHG(Ad-hoc Group)에서 시스템레벨 성능 비교용으로 제안한 SCM 채널을 링크레벨 성능의 비교 분석을 위하여, 본 논문에서는 시스템레벨 채널에 대한 채널 계수 및 파라메터들을 링크레벨 성능 비교용으로 변환하여 구현한다. 모의실험을 통하여 구현한 SCM 채널의 특성을 검증하고, 이를 이용하여 기존의 OFDM 기반 MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) 적용 시스템 및 스마트 안테나 적용 시스템에서의 실제적인 링크레벨 성능을 분석하고, 정확한 비교 검증을 위하여 SCM 채널과 동일한 파라메터를 적용한 I-METRA 채널 및 독립 채널 상황에서의 링크 레벨 성능을 함께 비교 분석한다. MIMO 및 스마트 안테나 적용 시스템에 대하여 여러 채널 환경에서 채널 상관도에 따른 링크레벨 성능을 분석함으로써, 채널 상관도의 영향에 따라 주어진 환경에 적합한 다중 안테나 시스템을 제안한다.

평판형 디스플레이 적용을 위한 내장형 Multiple U-Type 안테나를 이용한 유도결합형 플라즈마에 관한 연구 (Characteristics of Inductively Coupled Plasma with a Multiple U-Type Internal Antenna for Flat Panel Display Applications)

  • 본 연구에서는 대면적 플라즈마 공정에 적용 가능한 고밀도 플라즈마를 발생시키기 위하여 기존의 내장형 serpentine-type 안테나와 새롭게 고안된 내장형 유도결합형 multiple U-Type 안테나를 1020mm X 920mm(기판 880 X 660mm)의 챔버에서 연구하였다. 내장형 유도결합형 multiple U-type을 적용한 플라즈마는 serpentine-type과 비교하여 더 높은 플라즈마 밀도, 높은 radical 밀도, 좋은 균일도를 관찰할 수 있었다. 이는 serpentine-type의 경우와 비교하여 보다 적은 정상파 효과와 높은 유도결합에 기인한다. 내장형 유도결합형 multiple U-type 안테나의 적용으로 $2\times10^{11}/cm^3$의 높은 플라즈마 밀도를 얻을 수 있었고 5000W의 입력전압과 Ar 가스 15mTorr 공정압력조건에서 4%의 균일도를 관찰할 수 있었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 OFDM 기반의 셀룰러 시스템에서 실제 다중 수신안테나를 사용하지 않고 부반송파를 가상의 다중 수신안테나로 간주하여 MIMO 기법을 적용할 수 있는 부반송파 기반 가상 수신안테나 기법을 기술한다. 부반송파 기반 가상 안테나 기법은 단일 수신안테나에서도 셀간 간섭 제거 또는 SDMA를 수행할 수 있는 기법으로 송수신단에서 다중 안테나를 사용하는 경우에도 쉽게 확장가능하다. 부반송파 기반 가상 안테나 기법은 스마트 안테나 기법을 적용한 가상 스마트 안테나 기법과 MIMO 기법을 적용한 가상 다중 안테나 기법으로 분류된다. 특히 수신단이 주파수 재 사용률이 1인 셀 경계지역에 있을 때 인접 셀의 간섭을 효과적으로 제거할 수 있는 기법으로 간섭의 정도에 따라 유동적으로 자원할당이 가능한 방법이다. 모의실험을 통해 동일한 데이터 전송률에서 기존 셀간 간섭 제거 기법보다 부반송파 기반 가상 안테나 기법이 우수함을 보인다.

진화 전략 기법을 이용한 광대역 격리형 UWB-MIMO 안테나 최적설계 (Optimal Design of a UWB-MIMO Antenna with a Wide Band Isolation using ES Algorithm)

  • In this paper, a compact planar ultra wideband (UWB, 3.1~10.6GHz) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is proposed. This antenna consists of two monopole planar UWB antennas and T-shaped stub decoupling between two antennas. The T-shaped stub improve the isolation characteristic at the wide band. The evolution strategy(ES) algorithm is employed to optimized design. As a result, optimized antenna has a return loss less than -10dB and the isolation less than -15dB from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz. During the optimization process, the antenna gain is enhanced at lower band and the envelope correlation coefficient(ECC) is lower than 0.003.

Energy-Efficient Antenna Selection in Green MIMO Relaying Communication Systems

  • In existing literature on multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relaying communication systems, antenna selection is often implemented by maximizing the channel capacity or the output single-to-noise ratio (SNR). In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient low-complexity antenna selection scheme for MIMO relaying communication systems. The proposed algorithm is based on beamforming and maximizing the Frobenius norm to jointly optimize the transmit power, number of active antennas, and antenna subsets at the source, relaying and destination. We maximize the energy efficiency between the link of source to relay and the link of relay to destination to obtain the maximum energy efficiency of the system, subject to the SNR constraint. Compared to existing antenna selection methods forMIMO relaying communication systems, simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method can save more power in term of energy efficiency, while having lower computational complexity.

  • Multiple antenna technology, such as multiple input multiple output (MIMO), beamforming is one of the most promising technology for broadband wireless communication. In OFDM environment, we found that as the number of paths is increased, smart antenna system cannot fully exploit beamforming gain. In this paper, we propose a beamforming scheme and analyze the performance of the proposed beamforming scheme in WiBro smart antenna system. WiBro is an OFDMA-based multiple access service for wireless broadband multimedia environment. The proposed beamforming technique for WiBro smart antenna system can effectively improve the performance of the systems in multipath fading environment.

  • This letter presents an antenna design method for an orthogonally-polarized dual antenna for use in mobile stations (MSs) and includes a verification method for improving the link-level throughput performance of an MS that uses a proposed multiple-input multiple-output antenna. The link-level throughput performance of an MS is strongly related to the correlation between antenna branches, which is determined by the cross polarization discrimination of the second branch antenna, both numerically and experimentally.

Isolated Power Supply for Multiple Gate Drivers using Wireless Power Transfer System with Single-Antenna Receiver

  • This paper presents a power supply for gate drivers, which uses a magnetic resonance wireless power transfer system. Unlike other methods where multiple antennas are used to supply power for the gate drivers, the proposed method uses a single antenna in an insulated receiver to make multiple mutually isolated power supplies. The power transmitted via single antenna is distributed to multiple power supplies for gate drivers through resonant capacitors connected in parallel that also block DC bias. This approach has many advantages over other methods, where each gate driver needs to be supplied with power using multiple receiver antennas. The proposed method will therefore lead to a reduction in production costs and circuit area. Because the proposed circuit uses a high resonance frequency of 6.78 MHz, it is possible to implement a transmitter and a receiver using a small-sized spiral printed-circuit-board-type antenna. This paper used a single phase-leg circuit configuration to experimentally verify the performance characteristics of the proposed method.
