  • Differential unitary space-time modulation (DUSTM) has emerged as a promising technique to obtain spatial diversity without intractable channel estimation. This paper presents a study of the application of DUSTM on multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems with frequency-selective fading channels. From the view of a correlation analysis between subcarriers of OFDM, we obtain the maximum achievable diversity of DUSTM on MIMO-OFDM systems. Moreover, an efficient implementation strategy based on subcarrier reconstruction is proposed, which transmits all the signals of one signal matrix in one OFDM transmission and performs differential processing between two adjacent OFDM blocks. The proposed method is capable of obtaining both spatial and multipath diversity while reducing the effect of time variation of channels to a minimum. The performance improvement is confirmed by simulation results.

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) has meanwhile become part of several telecommunicati ons standards, such as satellite and terrestrial digital audio broadcasting(DAB), digital terrestrial TV broad casting(DVB), asymmetric digital subscriber line(ADSL) for high-bit-rate digital subscriber services on twisted-pair channels, and broadband indoor wireless systems. In his paper, we show that OFDM signals contain sufficient structure to accomplish blind channel estimation using second order statistics only. This method doesn't require redundancy as cp in transmitter. And the result is compared with PSAM channel estimation as least square, linear minimum mean square, singular value decomposition.

  • This paper considers the effects of simultaneous correlated multipath fading and shadowing on the performances of a signal-to-interference ratio (SIR)-based dual-branch selection combining (SC) diversity receiver. This analysis includes the presence of cochannel interference. A generalized fading/shadowing channel model in an interference-limited correlated fading environment is modeled by generalized-K distribution. Closed-form expressions are obtained for probability density function and cumulative distribution function of the SC output SIR, as well as for the outage probability. Based on this, the influence of various fading and shadowing parameter values and the correlation level on the outage probability is examined.

  • Rayleigh signal fading phenomena due to multipath propagation in wireless communication can be simulated using the sum-of-sinusoids channel model. Jakes' fading model is very simple simulator based on the sum-of-sinusoids and has been widely used. However, It has some short-comings. Its time correlation properties based on the simulated waveform do not correspond to the statistical ones. In this paper, the difference between statistical and time properties of Jakes' fading channel model is examined and new simulator is proposed.

  • In order to transmit various types of multimedia data (i.e. voice, video, and data) over a wireless channel, the coding and modulation scheme needs to be flexible and capable of providing a variable quality of service, data rates, and latency. In this paper, we study a mobile multimedia COMA network combined with the concatenated Reed-Solomon/Rate Compatible Punctured Convolution code (RS/RCPC). Also, this paper propose the combination of concatenated RS/RCPC coder and COMA RAKE receiver for multimedia COMA traffic which can be sent over wireless channels. From the results, using a frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel model, it is shown that concatenated RS/RCPC coder at the wireless physical layer can be effective in providing reliable wireless multimedia CDMA network. And the proposed scheme that combine concatenated RS/RCPC coder and CDMA RAKE receiver provides a significant gain in the BER performance over multi-user interference and multipath frequency selective fading channels.

  • MC-DS-CDMA is technique where a single data symbol is transmitted at multiple subcarriers which are orthogonal to each other. With this technique, frequency diversity can be achieved. Time variant channels lead to interchannel interference which increases the bit error rate for MC-DS-CDMA systems. The performance of PSAM MC-DS-CDMA system over time variant channels is analyzed. The BER performance of this system over multipath fading environment is evaluated, considering the channel estimation error, carrier frequency offset.

  • The BER performance of a MIMO detection scheme on frequency selective Rayleigh fading channels is analytically discussed. The presented MIMO detection scheme consists of temporal and spatial combiners followed by a ZF detector. It is shown that for a MIMO system with $N_T$ transmit antennas, $N_R$ receive antennas, and L resolvable multipath components, it achieves the diversity order of $LN_R-N_T+1$. In frequency selective Rayleigh fading channels, an analytical error rate expression of the systems is also provided and the analytical error performance is compared with the simulated results.

  • The performance of D-MIMO systems is not only affected by multipath fading but also from shadowing fading, as well as path loss. In this paper, we investigate the ergodic capacity of D-MIMO systems operating in non-correlated K fading (Rayleigh/Gamma) channels. With the aid of majorization and Minkowski theory, we derive analytical closed-form expressions of the upper and lower bounds on the ergodic capacity for D-MIMO systems over non-correlated K fading channels, which are quite general and applicable for arbitrary signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the number of transceiver antennas. To intuitively reveal the impacts of system and fading parameters on the ergodic capacity, we deduce asymptotic approximations in the high and low SNR regimes. Finally, we pursue the massive MIMO systems analysis for the lower bound and derive closed-form expressions when the number of antennas at BS grows large, and when the number of antennas at transceivers becomes large with a fixed and finite ratio. It is demonstrated that the proposed expressions on the ergodic capacity accurately match with the theoretical analysis.

  • Underwater acoustic communication channel is often defined as a multipath fading channel since the multipath arrivals from various paths interfere with each other and cause frequency dependent constructive or destructive interference in received signals. Therefore signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of received signal fluctuates as a function of frequency. In addition, sea surface fluctuation induces frequency dependent time variant signal fading due to coherent component variation of surface bounce path. The frequency shift keying (FSK) system is known to be less sensitive and more robust under these interference and fading, and M-ary frequency shift keying (MFSK) system is adopted to increase a data rate. In this study, a bit error rate (BER) of 4 channels 4FSK system are examined in shallow sea multipath channel. Experimental results show that RS code reduces efficiently the BER of 4FSK system since frequency dependent time-varying fading is characterized to give burst errors. The BER of a different data rate or different source-to-receiver range depends on not only the channel coherent bandwidth but also frequency dependent multipath fading.

  • In ultra-wideband (UWB) systems, conventionally, the synchronization is to align time phases of a locally generated template and any of multipath components to within an allowable range. However, the synchronization with a low-power multipath component could incur significant performance degradation in receiver operation (e.g., detection) after the synchronization. On the other hand, the synchronization with a high-power multipath component can improve the performance in receiver operation after the synchronization. Generally, the first one among multipath components has the largest power. Thus, the synchronization with the first path component can make better performance than that with low-power component in receiver operation after the synchronization, Based on which, we first propose an optimal decision rule based on a maximum likelihood (ML) approach, and then, develope a simpler suboptimal decision rule for selecting the first path component. Simulation results show that the system has good demodulation performance, which uses new synchronization definition and the proposed decision rules have better performance than that of the conventional decision rule in UWB multipath channels. Between macroblocks in the previous and the current frame. On video samples with high motion and scene change cases, experimental results show that (1) the proposed algorithm adapts the encoded bitstream to limited channel capacity, while existing algorithms abruptly excess the limit bit rate; (2) the proposed algorithm improves picture quality with $0.4{\sim}0.9$dB in average.
