  • The purpose of this paper is to make a study on the characterization of multimedia phenomena and to analyse the tendency of multimedia services and market. At first, various definitions of multimedia and the basis of multimedia services are analysed and evaluated from the point of economical, technical, and practical views. After that the expert survey to estimate an accurate tendency of multimedia services in Germany is analysed and the state of development in the field of multimedia database in Korea is investigated. Upon the results of these analysis and evaluation, the economical and managerial interests are described.

  • Multimedia systems present information by using various media, for example, video, sound, music, animation, movie, etc., in addition to the text which has long been used for conveying the information. Among many multimedia applications, the multimedia information retrieval systems commercialized in the form of multimedia encyclopedia CD-ROMs, benefit by using various media for their ability to present information in an efficient and complete way. But using various media may cause end users' confusion and furthermore, poor user-interface design often exacerbates the systems. For appropriate design of the user interface of multimedia information retrieval systems, we investigated the characteristics of the multimedia information retrieval systems and listed 35 variables that might affect the usability of the user interface. And we selected 10 variables through some procedures such as brainstorming, literature survey, expert opinion, relevance analysis and feasibility analysis, in order to perform a screening study which will remarkably reduce the cost and time in conducting subsequent human factors experiments.

  • 최근 키넥트 열풍을 반영하여 어린이들이 실내에서 신체 활동을 재미있게 학습할 수 있는 그리기 프로그램을 개발하였다. 20개의 인체 관절 좌표를 자동으로 실시간으로 사용자의 움직임을 추적하여 모션을 인식하고 해당하는 그리기 효과를 적용한다. 주요 기능은 메인 화면에서 다양한 펜 색깔과 스탬프, 페인트 볼 효과, 액자 그리기, 액션 명령어를 실행하는 것으로 구성되어 있다.

  • According to the progress of multimedia technology and growth of high speed network, plenty of multimedia contents are produced and in circulation. Because of these reasons, it is required that the method which can manage efficiently and make multimedia contents, for which are saved in Storage as different used, synchronize. In this paper, the metadata schema that can manage the method with being database using each Device metadata that are produced by extracting the needed information to multimedia contents is suggested. And the method that can make synchronized multimedia contents metadata on connecting between heterogeneous devices is proposed.

  • With the advance of internet and computer processing technique, users can easily access and use the multimedia contents involving the various pictures, videos and audios information. And users request more convenient and accurate multimedia services. In these environments, it is difficulties to integrate and manage metadata standards because there are various standards in multimedia applications according to types of services and data formats individually. In this paper, we design and implement the multimedia metadata management system for integrating from heterogeneous sources. In our system, we managed heterogeneous metadata by integrating to unified schema using mapping table. Through proposed system, users can search multimedia data easily without considering variety of application services.

  • Mouse is widely used in multimedia education. However, using mouse is not easy for user to get exact three dimentional (3D) user input and to manipulate delicately as the user can not know the surface information of virtual objects, which are typical drawbacks of using mouse in multimedia education, especially in 3D multimedia contents authoring. In this paper, haptic device is introduced to the 3D multimedia education. The haptic device provides 3D user's input information as well as haptic information of virtual objects such as surface textures, collisions and etc. which thus allow to enhance the task efficiency in multimedia education. Simple experiment results are presented to show the positive results of using the haptic device in multimedia education.

  • Our platform introduced in this paper is based on DAVIC specifications which define high quality multimedia services with some extensions to provide user friendly and uniform interface to its users. We designed and implemented an integrated service platform for high quality interactive multimedia services, swithed digital broadcasting, and Internet services. The integration in terms of a service provider system, a delivery system, and a service user system is taken into account. Our research results in the development of integrated high quality interactive and digital broadcasting multimedia services with web-based common user interface and its experience will be feedback to the field trial service which will be launched from next year.

  • This paper present a method of constructing the multimedia processor architecture. The proposed multimedia processor architecture be able to handle each text, sound, and video in one chip. Also it have interactive function that is a characteristics of multimedia. Specially, the proposed multimedia processor be able to addressing nodes in memory map without software, and it is completely reconfigurable depend on data. Also it as able to process time and space common that have synchronous/asynchronous and it is able to protect continuous and dynamic media bus collision, and local and overall common memory structure. The proposed multimedia processor architecture apply to virtual reality and mixed reality.
