A structural control algorithm using CMAC(Cerebellar Model Articulation Controller) neural network is proposed Learning rule for CMAC is derived based on cost function. Learning convergence of CMAC is compared with MLNN(Multilayer Neural Network). Numerical examples are shown to verify the proposed control algorithm. Examples show that CMAC can be applicable to structural control with fast learning speed.

In this paper, two neural networks as a material model, which are based on the state-space method, have been proposed. One outputs the rates of inelastic strain and material internal variables whereas the outputs of the other are the next state of the inelastic strain and material internal variables. Both the neural networks were trained using input-output data generated from Chaboche's model and successfully converged. The former neural network could reproduce the original stress-strain curve. The neural network also demonstrated its ability of interpolation by generating untrained curve. It was also found that the neural network can extrapolate in close proximity to the training data.
A discrete sliding mode control (SMC) method based on hybrid model of neural network and nominal model is proposed to reduce the vibration of flexible structures, which is a robust active controller developed by using a sliding manifold approach. Since the thick boundary layer will reduce the virtue of SMC, the multilayer feed-forward neural network is adopted to model the uncertainty part. The neural network is trained by Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation. The design objective of the sliding mode surface is based on the quadratic optimal cost function. In course of running, the input signal of SMC come from the hybrid model of the nominal model and the neural network. The simulation shows that the proposed control scheme is very effective for large uncertainty systems.
This paper presents a new construction method of candidate controllers using Multi-modal Neural Network(MNN). To improve a control performance of multiple controller, we construct, candidate controllers which consist of MNN. MNN can learn more complicated function than multilayer neural network. MNN consists of preprocessing module and neural network module. The preprocessing module transforms input signals into spectra which are used as input of the following neural network module. We apply the proposed method to multiple control system which controls the cart-pole balancing system and show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
A water wall system is one of the most important components of a boiler in a thermal power plant, and it is a nonlinear Multi-Input and Multi-Output (MIMO) system, with 6 inputs and 3 outputs. Three models are developed and comp for the controller design, including a linear model, a multilayer feed-forward neural network (MFNN) model and an Echo State Network (ESN) model. First, the linear model is developed by linearizing a given nonlinear model and is analyzed as a function of the operating point. Second, the MFNN and the ESN are developed by using training data from the nonlinear model. The three models are validated using Matlab with nonlinear input-output data that was not used during training.

An inverse kinematic solution of a robot manipulator using multilayer perceptrons is proposed. Neural networks allow the solution of some complex nonlinear equations such as the inverse kinematics of a robot manipulator without the need for its model. However, the back-propagation (BP) learning rule for multilayer perceptrons has the major limitation of being too slow in learning to be practical. In this paper, a new algorithm named Dynamically Reconfiguring BP is proposed to improve its learning speed. It uses a modified version of Kohonen's Self-Organizing Feature Map (SOFM) to partition the input space and for each input point, select a subset of the hidden processing elements or neurons. A subset of the original network results from these selected neuron which learns the desired mapping for this small input region. It is this selective property that accelerates convergence as well as enhances resolution. This network was used to learn the parity function and further, to solve the inverse kinematic problem of a robot manipulator. The results demonstrate faster learning than the BP network.
This paper proposes an efficient time series prediction of the nonlinear dynamical discrete-time systems using multilayer neural networks of a hybrid learning algorithm. The proposed learning algorithm is a hybrid backpropagation algorithm based on the steepest descent for high-speed optimization and the dynamic tunneling for global optimization. The proposed algorithm has been applied to the y00 samples of 700 sequences to predict the next 100 samples. The simulation results shows that the proposed algorithm has better performances of the convergence and the prediction, in comparision with that using backpropagation algorithm based on the gradient descent for multilayer neural network.

In water resources management, rainfall prediction with high accuracy is still one of controversial issues particularly in countries facing heavy rainfall during wet seasons in the monsoon climate. The aim of this study is to develop an artificial neural network (ANN) for predicting future six months of rainfall data (from April to September 2020) from daily meteorological data (from 1971 to 2019) such as rainfall, temperature, wind speed, and humidity at Seoul, Korea. After normalizing these data, they were trained by using a multilayer perceptron (MLP) as a class of the feedforward ANN with 15,000 neurons. The results show that the proposed method can analyze the relation between meteorological datasets properly and predict rainfall data for future six months in 2020, with an overall accuracy over almost 70% and a root mean square error of 0.0098. This study demonstrates the possibility and potential of MLP's applications to predict future daily rainfall patterns, essential for managing flood risks and protecting water resources.
In the pulsed electron beam generators, such as plasma focus devices and linear induction accelerators whose electron pulse width is in the range of nanosecond and less, as well as in cases where there is no direct access to electron beam, like runaway electrons in Tokamaks, measurement of the electron energy spectrum is a technical challenge. In such cases, the indirect measurement of the electron spectrum by using the bremsstrahlung radiation spectrum associated with it, is an appropriate solution. The problem with this method is that the matrix equation between the two spectrums is an ill-conditioned equation, which results in errors of the measured X-ray spectrum to be propagated with a large coefficient in the estimated electron spectrum. In this study, a method based on the neural network and the MCNP code is presented and evaluated to recover the electron spectrum from the X-ray generated by collision of the electron beam with a target. Multilayer perceptron network showed good accuracy in electron spectrum recovery, so that for the X-ray spectrum with errors of 3% and 10%, the network estimated the electron spectrum with an average standard error of 8% and 11%, on all of the energy intervals.
This paper proposes new criteria to fix hidden neuron in Multilayer Perceptron Networks for wind speed prediction in renewable energy systems. To fix hidden neurons, 101 various criteria are examined based on the estimated mean squared error. The results show that proposed approach performs better in terms of testing mean squared errors. The convergence analysis is performed for the various proposed criteria. Mean squared error is used as an indicator for fixing neuron in hidden layer. The proposed criteria find solution to fix hidden neuron in neural networks. This approach is effective, accurate with minimal error than other approaches. The significance of increasing the number of hidden neurons in multilayer perceptron network is also analyzed using these criteria. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulations were conducted on real time wind data. Simulations infer that with minimum mean squared error the proposed approach can be used for wind speed prediction in renewable energy systems.
