As a preliminary study for detection techniques of $CO_2$ gas bubble plumes, we have conducted a comparative experiment on artificially generated $CO_2$ gas bubbles plume by using multibeam echosounder (MBES), single beam echosounder (SBES), and sub-bottom profiler (SBP). The rising speed of artificial gas bubbles is higher than references because of compulsory release of compressed gas in the tank. Compared to single beam acoustic equipments, the MBES detects wide swath coverage. It provides exact determination of the source position and 3D information on the gas bubble plumes in the water column. Therefore, it is shown that MBES can distinctly detect gas bubble plumes compared to single beam acoustic equipments. We can establish more effective complementary detection technique by simultaneous operation of MBES and SBES. Consequently, it contributes to improve qualitative and quantitative detection techniques by understanding the acoustic characteristics of the specific gas bubbles.

Port of Samcheonpo, designated as a Trading Port, is constructing New Port for the increase in trade and the requirement of maritime safety is growing. To meet these requirement for maritime safety, hydrographic surveying around south sea area of Samcheonpo using Multibeam Echo Sounder(MBES), DGPS etc was conducted. In this study, major item of hydrographic surveying such as sounding data was acquired and analyzed depth data comparing with vertical uncertainty in the special publication for hydrographic minimum specification published in Feb, 2008 by International Hydrographic Organization. By analyzing the depth data with 3 steps procedure, the port and starboard beam by removing the outskirts of the data processing could improve the efficiency and accuracy. The error of south sea were about 0.2m and the upper central part of the error were within 0.2m. Depth data of the study area are included in the 99% of 1st order and satisfied with a 100% tolerance of special order based on the international hydrograhic survey standard. This study will be a good case to support efficient decision-making for safe navigation, coastal management.
Data acquisition is as important as data processing and interpretation in the field of marine geophysical exploration. Marine geophysicist, however, may not have enough information in this field because data acquisition method has been mainly developed by the commercial companies manufacturing the equipment. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to introduce the general data acquisition method and information to help to construct the systematic and effective survey plan. When a survey plan is set up, the most important thing is to select the seismic equipment based on required penetration depth and resolution, and then construct the survey line intervals. Although a line interval varies from the research purposes, it should be narrower than the expected subsurface structures. Also, if 100% coverage of multibeam data is required, line intervals need to be adjusted based on the equipment characteristics. In case of merging with the preexisting dataset like bathymetry, gravity and magnetic, cross-over errors occurred at the each cross point should be removed to avoid any kinds of misinterpretation.
At the first time in South Korea, the state of the art acoustic systems were mounted on the R/V Tamgu 21. The acoustic systems are an EK80 broadband echosounder (18, 38, 70, 120, 200 and 333 kHz) which has two beam modes such as continuous wave (narrowband) and frequency modulation (broadband), an ME70 multibeam echosounder (70-120 kHz), and a SH90 sonar (111.5-115.5 kHz). Acoustic data from broadband mode have a very short range resolution, a large detection range, a high signal to noise ratio, and a wide and consecutive frequency response. In ME70, each individual beam consisted in a multibeam plays a role as a spilt beam. The first trial of the cutting edge acoustic system installed on the R/V Tamgu 21 was conducted from 15 Feb to 29 Feb 2016 in East Sea, South Sea and East China Sea. The properties of the acoustic systems were elucidated and exploratory results from three systems were exhibited. Lastly, issues which should be considered and future research plan are mentioned.

Multibeam echosounder data, collected to investigate seabed features and topography, are usually subject to outliers resulting from the ship's irregular movements and insufficient correction for pressure calibration to the positions of beams. We introduce a statistical method which adjusts the outliers using the ARMA (Autoregressive Moving Average) technique. Our method was applied to a set of real data acquired in the East Sea. In our approach, autocorrelation of the data is modeled by an AR (1) model. If an observation is substantially different from that obtained from the estimated AR (1) model, it is declared as an outlier and adjusted using the estimated AR (1) model. This procedure is repeated until no outlier is found. The result of processing shows that outliers that are far greater than signals in amplitude were successfully removed.
We present a multi-dimensional reduction method of the surveyed cube database obtained using a single- dish radio telescope in Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory (TRAO). The multibeam receiver system installed at the 14 m telescope in TRAO was not optimized at the initial stage, though it became more stabilized in the following season. We conducted a Galactic Plane survey using the multibeam receiver system. We show that the noise level of the first part of the survey was higher than expected, and a special reduction process seemed to be definitely required. Along with a brief review of classical methods, a multi-dimensional method of reduction is introduced; It is found that the 'background' task within IRAF (Image Reduction and Analysis Facility) can be applied to all three directions of the cube database. Various statistics of reduction results is tested using several IRAF tasks. The rms value of raw survey data is 0.241 K, and after primitive baseline subtraction and elimination of bad channel sections, the rms value turned out to be 0.210 K. After the one-dimensional reduction using 'background' task, the rms value is estimated to be 0.176 K. The average rms of the final reduced image is 0.137 K. Thus, the image quality is found to be improved about 43% using the new reduction method.
The combination of Multi-Beam Echo Sounder swath bathymetry and high-resolution towed Sidescan sonar provides a powerful method of examination about hydrographic survey results. In this paper, we investigate the fast method of 3D bathymetric reconstruction with the Digital Sidescan sonar(Benthos SIS 1500) and Shallow Multi-Beam Echo Sounder(Reson Seabat 8125). The Seabat 8125 is a 455KHz high resolution focused Multibeam echo sounder(MBES) system which measures the relative water depth across a wide swath perpendicular to a vessel's track. The Benthos SIS1500 is a chirp(nominal fq. 200KHz) sonar which map the topographical features & sediment texture of ocean bottom using backscattered amplitude. We generates the very large 3D bathymetric texture mapping model with the Helical System's HHViewer and describes additional benefits of combining MBES and Sidescan Sonar imagery, the removal of geometric distortions in the model and a deterministic sounding noise.

This paper presents the analysis of the required limit on a multibeam active phased array antenna (APAA) aperture using the statistical simulation for a High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS). The simulation takes into account the random errors caused by the non-identity of the array elements and the inaccuracy of the antenna calibration. The results of our statistical simulation show that the strict requirements on the sidelobe envelope for HAPSs can be met when the amplitude and phase distribution errors are minor, a condition which may be achieved by using digital beam forming.
A multi-spot-beam satellite is an attractive technique for future satellite communications since it can support high data rates by projecting high power density to each spot beam and can reuse a frequency in different cells to increase the total system capacity. In this letter, we propose a resource management technique adjusting the bandwidth of each beam to minimize the difference between the traffic demand and allocated capacity. This represents a reasonable solution for dynamic bandwidth allocation, considering a trade-off between the maximum total capacity and fairness among the spot beams with different traffic demands.
