  • The Sectional and Spatial failure modes are discussed using the experimental data with long crest wave and multi-directional waves considering the failure modes occurring around the rubble-mound breakwater. The spatial & sectional stability and failure mode around the rubble-mound structures with construction progress can be summarized as follows: 1) The rubble mound structures at basic construction step was occurred serious failures when ${\xi}$ was about 6.5. 2) It was clarified that the failure modes at the round head of detached breakwater are classified as failure by plunging breaking on the slope, failure by direct incident wave force and failure by scouring at the toe of the detached break water. 3) The failure mode was found in the lower wave height than the design wave by the breaker depth effect. 4) The failure on the slope were also developed at the lee side of the round head because diffracted wave propagated into the behind area by grouping effect of multi-directional irregular wave.

  • A numerical procedure is described for simultaneously predicting the motion and structural responses of tension leg platforms (TLPs) in multi-directional irregular waves. The developed numerical approach is based on a combination of a three dimensional source distribution method, the finite element method for structurally treating the space frame elements and a spectral analysis technique of directional waves. The spectral description for the linear responses of a structure in the frequency domain is sufficient to completely define the responses. This is because both the wave inputs and the responses are stationary Gaussian ran dom process of which the statistical properties in the amplitude domain are well known. The hydrodynamic interactions among TLP members, such as columns and pontoons, are included in the motion and structural analysis. The effect of wave directionality has been pointed out on the first order motion, tether forces and structural responses of a TLP in multi-directional irregular waves.

  • Vehicular communication is one of main convergence technologies which combines information and communication technology (ICT) with vehicle and road industries. In general, vehicular communication adopts IEEE 802.11p standard which is commonly referred as wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE). In this paper, we investigate a multi-hop communication scheme for IEEE 802.11p based communication systems which support both vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. First, we briefly overview the performance of IEEE 802.11p based communication systems. Then, a multi-hop communication scheme is introduced for both broadcast and unicast. The performance of proposed scheme is presented via experimental measurements.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate that Common Mid-Point (CMP) cross-correlation gathers of multi-channel and multi-shot surface waves give accurate phase-velocity curves, and enable us to reconstruct two-dimensional (2D) velocity structures with high resolution. Data acquisition for CMP cross-correlation analysis is similar to acquisition for a 2D seismic reflection survey. Data processing seems similar to Common Depth-Point (CDP) analysis of 2D seismic reflection survey data, but differs in that the cross-correlation of the original waveform is calculated before making CMP gathers. Data processing in CMP cross-correlation analysis consists of the following four steps: First, cross-correlations are calculated for every pair of traces in each shot gather. Second, correlation traces having a common mid-point are gathered, and those traces that have equal spacing are stacked in the time domain. The resultant cross-correlation gathers resemble shot gathers and are referred to as CMP cross-correlation gathers. Third, a multi-channel analysis is applied to the CMP cross-correlation gathers for calculating phase velocities of surface waves. Finally, a 2D S-wave velocity profile is reconstructed through non-linear least squares inversion. Analyses of waveform data from numerical modelling and field observations indicate that the new method could greatly improve the accuracy and resolution of subsurface S-velocity structure, compared with conventional surface-wave methods.

  • The wave profiles of directional breaking waves are investigated experimentally in a directional wave basin. The directional breaking waves are generated by component wave focusing both in direction and frequency based on constant wave steepness and constant wave amplitude spectrum models. the profile parameters of wave crest steepness and asymmetry are adapted to analyze the evolution of breaking ware characteristics in a view of focusing efficiency. The generated breaking waves are classified into the incipient, single and multi breaking waves.

  • We have developed a Monte Carlo (MC) simulator for electron beam lithography in multi-layer resists and multi-layer substrates in order to fabricate and develop high-speed PHEMT devices for millimeter- wave applications. For the deposited energy calculation to multi-layer resists by electron beam in MC simulation, we modeled newly for multi-layer resists and heterogeneous multi-layer substrates. Using this model, we simulated T-gate or r-gate fabrication process in PHEMT device and showed our results with SEM observations.

  • The acoustical properties of multi-layered treatments of materials used in applications, such as automotive liners, generally cannot be directly measured by a one-time test in a standing wave duct. Therefore, we have to consider predicting them by the four-pole transfer matrix method. This method requires performing TCM or TLM for measuring the transfer matrix of each layer and calculating the total transfer matrix of the whole multi-layered material. The final predicted absorption ratios and transmission losses of the multi-layered treatments strongly depend on the measured transfer matrix of each layer. All these functions have been included in a new designed acoustical software.

  • Wave breaking and breaking wave-induced hydrodynamics are very important subjects in the field of coastal and ocean hydrodynamics and engineering. In the coastal zone, a submerged breakwater has been increasingly popular, since it is one of nature-matching structures with multi- functions such as (1) wave energy dissipation by wave breaking and friction, (2) oxygen supply to sea by wave breaking and breaking wave, (3) water purification by entrained air bubbles, (4) keeping. good seascape. and (5) good habitat for sea livings. Recently, the breaking wave-induced high frequency pressure over a submerged breakwater is said to have a function of gathering sea livings around the structure, which has encouraged the construction of the submerged breakwater in coastal zone. • The actual wave is multi-direction irregular wave. In the case of a long structure, a reduction effect of the wave occurs. In this study, in order to grasp the extent to which these influences contribute to the failure probability and compare the existing modular breakwaters to the stability, we used existing modular breakwaters and long caisson breakwaters using wave force reduction parameter to analysis the reliability. As a result, the reliability index of the long caisson breakwater was higher than that of the existing modular caisson breakwater, and it was confirmed that the significant wave height of the design variables had the highest influence. In addition, the reliability analysis was performed according to the change of the mean value of the variables used in the calculation of the wave force reduction parameter. It is confirmed that the relationship between each variable value and the wave force reduction parameter appears in the analysis results.

  • A numerical procedure is described for simultaneously predicting the wave exciting forces and drift forces on a Tension Leg Platform (TLP) in multi-directional irregular waves. The numerical approach is based on a three dimensional source distribution method to the wave exciting forces, a far-field method to the steady drift forces and a spectral analysis technique of directional waves. The spectral description for the linear system of TLP in the frequency domain is sufficient to completely define the wave exciting forces and steady drift forces. This is because both the wave inputs and the outputs are stationary Gaussian random process of which the statistical properties in the amplitude domain are well known. Numerical results of steady drift forces are compared with the experimental and numerical ones, which are obtained in the literature. The results of comparison confirmed the validity of the proposed approach.
