Wireless smart sensors enable new approaches to improve structural health monitoring (SHM) practices through the use of distributed data processing. Such an approach is scalable to the large number of sensor nodes required for high-fidelity modal analysis and damage detection. While much of the technology associated with smart sensors has been available for nearly a decade, there have been limited numbers of fulls-cale implementations due to the lack of critical hardware and software elements. This research develops a flexible wireless smart sensor framework for full-scale, autonomous SHM that integrates the necessary software and hardware while addressing key implementation requirements. The Imote2 smart sensor platform is employed, providing the computation and communication resources that support demanding sensor network applications such as SHM of civil infrastructure. A multi-metric Imote2 sensor board with onboard signal processing specifically designed for SHM applications has been designed and validated. The framework software is based on a service-oriented architecture that is modular, reusable and extensible, thus allowing engineers to more readily realize the potential of smart sensor technology. Flexible network management software combines a sleep/wake cycle for enhanced power efficiency with threshold detection for triggering network wide operations such as synchronized sensing or decentralized modal analysis. The framework developed in this research has been validated on a full-scale a cable-stayed bridge in South Korea.

Network solutions for protecting against worm attacks that complement partial end system patch deployment is a pressing problem. In the content-based worm filtering, the challenges focus on the detection accuracy and its performance enhancement problem. We present a worm filter architecture using the bloom filter for deployment at high-speed transit points on the Internet, including firewalls and gateways. Content-based packet filtering at multi-gigabit line rates, in general, is a challenging problem due to the signature explosion problem that curtails performance. We show that for worm malware, in particular, buffer overflow worms which comprise a large segment of recent outbreaks, scalable -- accurate, cut-through, and extensible -- filtering performance is feasible. We demonstrate the efficacy of the design by implementing it on an Intel IXP network processor platform with gigabit interfaces. We benchmark the worm filter network appliance on a suite of current/past worms, showing multi-gigabit line speed filtering prowess with minimal footprint on end-to-end network performance.
In this paper, we present a network-oriented lightweight real-time system, which is composed of an event-driven operating system called the Embedded Lightweight Operating System (ELOS) and a generic multi hop ad hoc routing protocol suite. In the ELOS, a conditional preemptive FCFS scheduling method with a guaranteed time slot is designed for efficient real-time processing. For more elaborate configurations, we reinforce fault tolerance by supplementing semi-auto configuration using wireless agent nodes. The developed hardware platform is also introduced, which is a scalable prototype constructed using off-the-shelf components. In addition, in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, we developed a ubiquitous network test-bed on which several experiments with respect to various environments are conducted. The results show that the ELOS is considerably favorable for tiny ubiquitous networked systems with real-time constraints.

SVC(Scalable Video coding) is the standardization of MPEG that aims to support multi spatial, temporal, and quality layers. We can support the video service guaranteeing the QoS in varied network circumstance by using SVC bitstream. In this paper, we propose the real-time SVC bitstream extractor that is able to extract the bitstream with varied frame rate and SNR quality in real-time. To do, extraction processing needs to be performed by GOP unit. As well , essential bitstream information for real-time extraction is aquired before doing extraction process. The proposed method is implemented by using JSVM 2.0. Experimental results show that the proposed method is valid.

The demand for spatial data service technologies is increasing lately with the development of realistic 3D spatial information services and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). Research is being conducted on the real-time provision of spatial data services through a variety of mobile and Web-based contents. Big data or cloud computing can be presented as alternatives to the construction of spatial data for the effective use of large volumes of data. In this paper, the process of building HLM (Hyper Live Map) using multi-source data to acquire stereo CCTV and other various data is presented and a big data service architecture design is proposed for the use of flexible and scalable cloud computing to handle big data created by users through such media as social network services and black boxes. The provision of spatial data services in real time using big data and cloud computing will enable us to implement navigation systems, vehicle augmented reality, real-time 3D spatial information, and single picture based positioning above the single GPS level using low-cost image-based position recognition technology in the future. Furthermore, Big Data and Cloud Computing are also used for data collection and provision in U-City and Smart-City environment as well, and the big data service architecture will provide users with information in real time.

Wireless mesh networks contain multi-hop routing protocols between wireless nodes and are connected to the Internet through a gateway. These networks perform a role as a backbone and are scalable for main applications. We propose the design of QoS supporting mechanisms for wireless mesh networks using software defined networking. Our proposed scheme is cost-effective and features adaptive QoS mechanisms for wireless router's resource constraints. The QoS mechanisms use software defined networking technology with Openflow protocol based on diffserv and intserv models with MPLS mechanism and RSVP respectively. A performance evaluation model is suggested to verify the validity of the proposed scheme using several QoSmetrics of the wireless mesh networks.

It becomes more and more more important for the storage that supports high speed recording and stable access from network environment. As one field of basic science which produces massive astronomical data, VLBI(: Very Long Baseline Interferometer) is now demanding more data writing performance and which is directly related to astronomical observation with high resolution and sensitivity. But most of existing storage are cloud model based for the high throughput of general IT, finance, and administrative service, and therefore it not the best choice for recording of big stream data. Therefore, in this study, we design storage system optimized for high performance of I/O and concurrency. To solve this problem, we implement packet read and writing module through the use of libpcap and pf_ring API on the multi core CPU environment, and build a scalable storage based on software RAID(: Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) for the efficient process of incoming data from external network.

The fast emerging of network technology and the high demand of computing resources have prompted many organizations to outsource their storage and computing needs. Cloud based storage services such as Microsoft's Azure and Amazon's S3 allow customers to store and retrieve any amount of data, at anytime from anywhere via internet. The scalable and dynamic of the cloud storage services help their customer to reduce IT administration and maintenance costs. No doubt, cloud based storage services brought a lot of benefits to its customer by significantly reducing cost through optimization increased operating and economic efficiencies. However without appropriate security and privacy solution in place, it could become major issues to the organization. As data get produced, transferred and stored at off premise and multi tenant cloud based storage, it becomes vulnerable to unauthorized disclosure and unauthorized modification. An attacker able to change or modify data while data inflight or when data is stored on disk, so it is very important to secure data during its entire life-cycle. The traditional cryptography primitives for the purpose of data security protection cannot be directly adopted due to user's lose control of data under off premises cloud server. Secondly cloud based storage is not just a third party data warehouse, the data stored in cloud are frequently update by the users and lastly cloud computing is running in a simultaneous, cooperated and distributed manner. In our proposed mechanism we protect the integrity, authentication and confidentiality of cloud based data with the encrypt- then-upload concept. We modified and applied proxy re-encryption protocol in our proposed scheme. The whole process does not reveal the clear data to any third party including the cloud provider at any stage, this helps to make sure only the authorized user who own corresponding token able to access the data as well as preventing data from being shared without any permission from data owner. Besides, preventing the cloud storage providers from unauthorized access and making illegal authorization to access the data, our scheme also protect the data integrity by using hash function.
With the advance of VLSI and network technologies, it has now become a common practice to deploy a various forms of distributed computing environments. A study shows that a lot of network-aware computers are in an idle state for considerable amount of time depending on the types of users and time frames of the day. If we can take the full advantage of those idle computers, we can obtain the enormous combined processing power without further costly investment. In this paper, we present a distributed batch-processing system, called the Java Distributed Batch-processing System (JDBS), which allows us to execute CPU-intensive, independent jobs across a pool of idle workstations on top of extant distributed computing environments. Since JDBS is implemented using a Java programming language, it not only extends the scope of machine types that can be joined to the pool, but makes it a lot easier to build an entire system. Besides, JDBS is scalable and fault-tolerant due to its multi-cluster organization and intelligent strategies. A graphical user interface is also provided to facilitate the registration and unregistration, job submission, and job monitoring.

In this paper we present a Distributed Object oriented Virtual computing Environment, called DOVE which consists of autonomous distributed objects interacting with one another via method invocations based on a distributed object model. DOVE appears to a user logically as a single virtual computer for a set of heterogeneous hosts connected by a network as if objects in remote site reside in one virtual computer. By supporting efficient parallelism, heterogeneity, group communication, single global name service and fault-tolerance, it provides a transparent and easy-to-use programming environment for parallel applications. Efficient parallelism is supported by diverse remote method invocation, multiple method invocation for object group, multi-threaded architecture and synchronization schemes. Heterogeneity is achieved by automatic data arshalling and unmarshalling, and an easy-to-use and transparent programming environment is provided by stub and skeleton objects generated by DOVE IDL compiler, object life control and naming service of object manager. Autonomy of distributed objects, multi-layered architecture and decentralized approaches in hierarchical naming service and object management make DOVE more extensible and scalable. Also, fault tolerance is provided by fault detection in object using a timeout mechanism, and fault notification using asynchronous exception handling methods
