In this paper, we proposed an optical security system based on a gray-image exclusive-OR encryption using multi-phase separation and phase-wrapping method. For encryption, a gray image is sliced into binary images, which have the same pixel value, and these images are encrypted by modified XOR rules with binary random images. The XORed images and the binary images respectively combined and converted into full phase images, called an encrypted image and a key image. For decryption, when the encrypted image and key image are used as inputs on optical elements, Practically due to limited controllability of phase range in optical elements, the original gray image cannot be efficiently reconstructed by these optical elements. Therefore, by decreasing the phase ranges of the encrypted image and key image using a phase-wrapping method and separating these images into low-level phase images using multi-phase separation, the gray image can be reconstructed by optical elements which have limited control range. The decrytion process is simply implemented by interfering a multiplication result of encrypted image and key image with reference light. The validity of proposed scheme is verified and the effects, which are caused by phase limitation in decryption process, is analyzed by using computer simulations.

The present study investigated two-phase flow distribution, phase separation and pressure drop in multi-microchannel tubes under adiabatic condition. The test section consisted of inlet and outlet headers with the inner diameter of 19.4㎜ and 15 parallel microchannel tubes. Each microchannel tube brazed to the inlet and outlet headers and had 8 rectangular ports with the hydraulic diameter of 1.32㎜. The key experimental parameters were orientation of header (horizontal and vertical), flow direction of refrigerant into the inlet header (in-line, parallel and cross flow) and inlet quality (0.1, 0.2 and 0.3). It was found that the orientation of the header had relatively large effect on the flow distribution and phase separation, while the inlet quality didn't affect much on them. The horizontal header showed the better flow distribution and phase separation characteristics than the vertical one. The parallel flow condition with the horizontal header showed the best performance for the flow distribution and phase separation characteristics under the test conditions. Two-phase pressure drops through the microchannel tubes with the horizontal header were higher than those of the microchennel tubes with the vertical header due to gravitational effect.
Separation control has been performed using synthetic jets on airfoil at high angle of attack. Computed results demonstrated that stall characteristics and control surface performance could be substantially improved by resizing separation vortices. It was observed that the actual flow control mechanism and flow structure is fundamentally different depending on the range of synthetic jet frequency. For low frequency range, small vortices due to synthetic jet penetrated to the large leading edge separation vortex, and as a result, the size of the leading edge vortex was remarkably reduced. For high frequency range, however, small vortex did not grow up enough to penetrate into the leading edge separation vortex. Instead, synthetic jet firmly attached the local flow and influenced the circulation of the virtual airfoil shape which is the combined shape of the main airfoil with the separation vortex. Theses results show the characteristic of unsteady flow of single synthetic jet. Beside, we researched on multi-array synthetic jet to obtain applicable synthetic jet velocity. Multi-location synthetic jet is proposed to eliminate small vortex on suction surface of airfoil. With the results, we concluded that the flow around airfoil is stable by high frequency synthetic jet with elimination of small vortex and confirmation of stable flow. Moreover, performance of multi-array/multi-location synthetic jet can be improved by changing phase angle of multi-location synthetic jet.

We propose the separation algorithm to simultaneously measure two-dimensional refractive index distribution and thickness profile of transparent samples using three wavelengths. The optical system was based on the Mach-zehnder interferometer with LD (Laser Diode)-based multi-wavelength sources. A LCR (Liquid Crystal Retarder) was used to obtain interference images at four phase states and then the optical phase of the object is calculated by four-bucket algorithm. Experimental results with a glass rod are provided at the different wavelengths of 635nm, 660nm and 675nm. The refractive indices of the sample are distributed with accuracy of less than 0.0005 and the thickness profile of sample was cylindrical type. This result demonstrates that it is possible to separate refractive index distribution and thickness profile of samples in two dimensions using the proposed algorithm.

In this numerical study, the separation efficiency of three-phase separator in an oil-sand plant was studied with various inlet head configurations. The free water knockout (FWKO) vessel was designed with a flow rate of $15.89m^3/day$ (100 bbl/day) and the SOR(stream-to-oil ratio)=3.5 was derived using Stokes' law. For modularization, optimization of the design of the inlet head configuration was performed with parallel-connected dual FWKO vessels. The feed condition of bitumen emulsion was API=17, $T_{in}=150^{\circ}C$ and $P_{in}=50bar$. A mean residence time was determined the time when 95% of the oil and water in FWKO vessel was separated. The combination between the volume of fluid (VOF) and the discrete phase model (DPM) was used to simulate the phase separation phenomenon in a multi-phase separator. Furthermore, in order to calculate multi-phase flow the pseudo-transient method was adopted.

Novel SILEMs were prepared by multi-stage phase separation process combined by the low temperature phase separation (LTPS) and the high temperature phase separation (HTPS) using room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) which have a high ionic conductivity. PVDF and imidazolium series ionic liquids were used as membrane material and electrolyte, respectively. To study the ion conducting properties, the SILEMs were tested using LCR meter at temperature controlled from 30 to $130^{\circ}C$. Under humid conditions, with increasing temperature from 30 to $100^{\circ}C$, the ion conductivity of the cast $Nafion^{(R)}$ membrane increased linearly, but then started to decrease after $100^{\circ}C$. However, in the case of the SILEMs, with increasing operating temperature, the ion conductivity increased. Also, the ion conductivity behaviors of the SILEMs were almost same, regardless of humidity. The ion conductivity of the SILEMs was $2.7{\times}10^{-3}S/cm$ and increased almost linearly up to $2.2{\times}10^{-2}S/cm$ with increasing temperature to $130^{\circ}C$. The effects of an inorganic filler on the physical properties of the SILEMs were studied using the $SiO_2$. The addition of $SiO_2$ could improve the mechanical strength of the SILEMs, though the ionic conductivity was decreased slightly.

A finite difference lattice Boltzmann model which allows us to simulate gas-liquid two-phase flows with large density difference, for instance, 800 times for air and water is considered. Two-particle model is used and the density difference is introduced by changing the acceleration according to the fluid density. Numerical measurement of surface tension agrees well with theoretical predictions. Simulations of two-phase phenomenon for phase-transition is carried out, showing applicability of the model for two-phase flows. The two-dimensional cavitating flow around a board set up in the fluid way is also simulated. As a result, it was confirmed that the FDLB method with two-particle model was effective in numerical simulation of cavitating flow and the bubble periodically grew up at the low pressure area behind the board, in which the fluid condition was influenced by the cavitation number.
Interfacial reactions kinetics often differ from kinetics of bulk reactions. Here, we describe how the density change of an immobilized reactant influences the kinetics of interfacial reactions. Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of alkanethiolates on gold were used as a model interface and the Diels-Alder reaction between immobilized quinones and soluble cyclopentadiene was used as a model reaction. The kinetic behavior was studied using varying concentrations of quinones. An unusual threshold density of quinones (${\Gamma}_c$ = 5.2-7.2%), at which the pseudo-first order rate constant started to vary as the reaction progressed, was observed. This unexpected kinetic behavior was attributed to the phase-separation phenomena of multi-component SAMs. Additional experiments using more phase-separated two-component SAMs supported this explanation by revealing a significant decrease in ${\Gamma}_c$ values. When the background hydroxyl group was replaced with carboxylic or phosphoric acid groups, ${\Gamma}_c$ was observed at below 1%. Also, more phase-separated thermodynamically controlled SAMs produced a lower critical density (3% < ${\Gamma}_c$ < 4.9%) than that of the less phaseseparated kinetically controlled SAMs (6.5% < ${\Gamma}_c$ < 8.9%).

We propose a foe phase tuner and a rounding processor for a numerically controlled oscillator (NCO), yielding a reduced phase error in generating a digital sine waveform. By using the fine Phase tuner Presented in this paper, when the ratio of the desired sine wave frequency to the clock frequency is expressed as a fraction, an accurate adjustment in representing the fractional value can be achieved with simple hardware. In addition, the proposed rounding processor reduces the effects of phase truncation on the output spectrum. Logic simulation results of the NCO for multi-carrier channel separation in cdma2000 3X multi-carrier receive system using these techniques show that the noise spectrum and mean square error (MSE) are reduced by 8.68 dB and 5.5 dB, respectively compared to those of truncation method and 2.38 dB and 0.83 dB, respectively, compared to those of Paul's scheme.
