  • This paper shows the desist concept of an ATS(Antenna Tracking Software) to control the movement of the MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera) antenna. The MSC has a two-axes directional X-band antenna for image transmission to KGS(KOMSAT2 Ground Station). The main objective of the ATS is to drive the APM(Antenna Pointing Mechanism) to the required elevation and the azimuth position according to an appropriate TPF(Tracking Parameter File). The ATS is implemented as one task of the SBC(Single Board Computer) software, which uses VxWorks as a real time OS. The ATS has several operational modes such as STANDBY mode, First EL mode, First AZ mode, Normal Operation mode, and so on. The ATS uses two PI controllers fur the velocity and the position loop respectively, to satisfy the requirements specification. In order to show the feasibility of the described design concept, the various simulations and the experiments are performed under specific test configuration.

  • We propose an asymmetric sampled grating laser and a multi-wavelength laser array associated with it. Asymmetric sampling periods combined with an index shifter make it possible to use first order reflection for lasing operations. With the structure of our design, we achieved a simple fabrication procedure as well as a high yield without using complex and time-consuming e-beam lithography for multi-period gratings. We analyzed the effect of mirror coating by numerical analysis to improve single mode and power extraction performance. By using high reflection-antireflection coatings, we obtained high power extraction efficiency without degradation of the single mode property. For the multi-wavelength laser array, to gain wavelength control, we varied the sampling periods from one laser to an adjacent laser across the array. With this approach, we showed the feasibility of an array of up to 30 channels with 100 GHz wavelength spacing.

  • This paper presents design of SD adder and PD adder on Multi-Valued Logic. For implementing of Multi-valued logic circuits we use Current-mode CMOS circuits and also use Voltage-mode CMOS circuits partially. The proposed arithmetic circuits was estimated by SPICE simulation. At the SD(Signed-Digit) number presentation applying Multi-Valued logic the carry propagation is always limited to one position to the left this number presentation allows fast parallel operation. The addition method that add M operands using PD( positive digit number) is effective not only for the realization of the high-speed compact arithmetic circuit, but also for the reduction of the interconnection in the VLSI processor. therefor, if we use PD number representation, the high speed processor can be implementation.

  • This paper deals with the design of multi-machine power system stabilizers (PSSs) and Static var compensator (SVC) using Modified shuffled frog leaping algorithm (MSFLA). The effectiveness of the proposed scheme for optimal setting of the PSSs and SVC controllers has been attended. The PSSs and SVC controllers designing is converted to an optimization problem in which the speed deviations between generators are involved. In order to compare the capability of PSS and SVC, they are designed independently once, and in a coordinated mode once again. The proposed method is applied on a multi-machine power system under different operating conditions and disturbances to confirm the effectiveness of it. The results of tuned PSS controller based on MSFLA (MSFLAPSS) and tuned SVC controller based on MSFLA (MSFLA SVC) are compared with the Strength pareto evolutionary algorithm (SPEA) and Particle swarm optimization (PSO) based optimized PSS and SVC through some performance to reveal its strong performance.

  • In this research, a novel multi-converter system for the fuel cell diagnostics and the load leveling function under varying load condition is proposed. The proposed system is composed of two converters and operates in two different modes. In the normal mode operation the additional bidirectional converter is used for the load leveling and in the diagnostic mode it is used for implementing integral diagnostics by way of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The proposed method can perform the EIS for fuel cell under varying load conditions with no influence to the load. The validity and feasibility of the proposed system is verified by the experiments and the design procedure of the proposed system is detailed.

  • Piezoelectric actuators are characterized by non-linear dynamics and high frequency oscillations of the piezocrystal. Both properties have to be taken into consideration when optimizing real time systems. Taking benefit of the almost linear behaviour between charge and strain, current source fed piezoelectric actuators are given preference for high dynamic applications. Here special emphasis is put on current sources for multi-actuator systems and the controller design for optimal system integration of the actuator. It is shown that sliding mode operation of the converter system offers good possibilities to guaranty high accuracy and dynamics of the actuators system. The presented multi-actuator system is used for positioning and vibration damping in flexible mechanical systems.

  • This paper presents an electrode shape design method for the multi-mode sensors that could deteict the selected structural multiple modes. The structure used for this study is an isotropic cantilever beam type with a PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) which is bonded onto the structure as a sensor. The shape optimization problem is solved by using Genetic Algorithm (GA) with an appropriate objective function. The performance of analytical optimal shape sensor is compared with that of experimental work. The results show that the, obtained electrode shape sensors have good performance to detect the multiple vibration modes simultaneously.

  • This paper presents the design and characterization of a novel fiber optical coupler for intensity modulated fiber optical microphone. Theoretical equations for the optical power coupling are presented in detail including optical path analysis and misalignment. Various optical couplers are simulated and manufactured. A multi-mode to multi-mode coupler is characterized by static and dynamic movements of mirror on a well designed experimental stage.

  • In this paper, the novel sliding durfaces are proposed by defining the virtual states. These sliding surfaces have the nominal dynamics of the original system and make it possible that the sliding Mode Control(SMC) technique is used with various types of controllers. Its design is based on the augmented system which additional dynamics as many as input numbers. The reaching phase is eliminated by using the initial virtual states which make the initial sliding functions equal to zero.
