Ultra violet (UV) curable pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) were prepared by controlling both the structure of acryl copolymer and the functionality and content of multi-functional monomers. Acryl copolymer worked as the base polymer for giving the tackiness. Multi-functional monomers were used to vary the crosslinked structure and the degree of crosslink. Acryl copolymer showed the reduced peel strength after UV curing by decreasing the content of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate in the monomer composition. Both the peel strength of PSA and the content of residue found on silicon wafer decreased after UV curing by increasing the functionality of multi-functional monomers. UV curable PSA containing 20 phr six-functional monomer showed the higher peel strength before UV curing and the lower peel strength and the least residue on silicon wafer after UV curing.

A new aromatic diamine monomer containing benzoxazole substituents was prepared by a multi-step synthesis starting from 1,4-dibromo-2,5-difluorobenzene. This bulky and disc-shaped monomer was polymerized with commercial dianhydride monomers to give several different poly(amic acid)s with their inherent viscosities in the range of 0.24-0.35 dL/g. The prepared polymers were soluble in typical polar aprotic solvents. Thermal imidization to the corresponding polyimides were investigated by using FT-IR, DSC and TGA.
Polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) film is widely used in various industrial fields such as mobile phone, display pannel, notebook etc. Recently PET film attached on indium tin oxide (ITO) surface has a role of high pencil hardness, high refractive index etc. So we synthesized two types of multi-functional monomer which are epoxy modifed acrylate and unmodified acrylate type using recyclable resource like phloroglucinol, derived from trinitrotoluene. We studied the effect of multi-functional monomer's chemical structure on the various properties such as refractive index, optical transmittance, and pencil hardness. We characterized synthesized multi-functional monomer by qualitative analysis through H NMR. We observed that pencil hardness of 1,3,5-triepoxide benzene and 1,3,5-triacrylate benzene they have the range of 2~3 H at high UV dosage of 300 mW. Refractive index appeared the value of 1.54~1.57. Transmittance of all multi-functional monomers has more than 93%.

A methacrylate monomer having phospholipid polar group and cell membrane structure is known as highly biocompatible. Based on these properties, new biocompatible multi-functional textile finishing agent was developed using phospolipid copolymer. 2-Methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) was synthesized using 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), 2-chloro-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphospholane (COP), trimethylamine (TMA) and triethylamine (TEA), and then polymerized to prepare MPC copolymer by radical polymerization using AIBN. The structures of MPC and MPCE were characterized by FTIR and 1H NMR and will be evaluated as textile finishing agent in further study.

At present, the polymer-modified mortars are used as high-performance as well as multi-functional materials in the construction industry. The purpose of this study is to synthesize polymer to modify in cement mortars and make test samples to understand pore size distribution. This paper deals with the effect of monomer ratio on the typical properties of polymer-modified mortars using Methylmethacrylate-Butyl Acrylate(MMA/BA) latexes synthesized through emulsion polymerization. From the results, we knew that the pore volume of polymer-modified mortars using Methylmethacrylate-Butyl Acrylate latexes at bound MMA contents of 70 and 60 percent is 7.5-75cm$^3$/g and the fine pore volume is increased with an increase in the polymer-cement ratio. The total pore volume of polymer-modified mortars using MMA/BA latexes is linearly reduced with an increase in the bound MMA content and increased in the polymer-cement ratio.

Relationship between printability and rheological properties of UV flexographic (flexo) inks were investigated. UV flexo suspensions of carbon black in liquid medium having various binding materials such as acylate pre-polymer, di/multi-functional monomer, and diluents, were used as sample inks. Inks were characterized on a rheometer in terms of steady and dynamic behaviors. To understand the rheological properties of UV flexo inks, we must determine the specific rheological properties of chemical and/or physical interactions of their components (pigments, functional monomers, and pre-polymers). In particular, we discussed the influence of multi-functional monomers and the relationship between the rheological properties and transient networks formed by carbon black. In this study, we investigated the interrelationships between rheological properties of UV flexo inks and chemical and/or physical interactions of their components. To investigate correlations between the printability and the rheological behaviors induced by interfacial interactions between ink compositions, we carried out rheological tests of UV ink suspensions. The results were compared with printing tests so as to find out the relationship between printability and rheological properties of ink.

Multi-functional urethane acrylate monomers as the curing agent of poly(phenylene ether) (PPE) were synthesized and then the urethane bond formation was checked by FTIR spectrometry and NMR analysis. The synthesized monomers were mixed with PPE and fabricated to dielectric substrates. After forming PPE/monomer composite sheets by a film coater, several sheets were laminated to a test substrate in a vacuum laminator and then its properties depending on the type and the amount of monomers, such as dielectric constant, dielectric loss, and peel strength, were measured. Between the two different hydroxyl acrylates, when the monomer synthesized with 2-hydroxy-3-phenoxypropyl acrylate containing a phenyl group was used as a curing agent, a smaller dielectric loss was obtained and the dielectric constant and loss decreased with a decrease in the amount of the monomer. The peel strength values of the test substrates, however, did not show any specific difference between the cases of two synthesized monomers. As a result, it was obtained the polymer substrate for high frequency application having peel strength of about 10 N, low dielectric constant of 2.54, and low dielectric loss of 0.0027 at 1 GHz.

Cellulose grafted with acrylic acid(AAc) was prepared by radiation grafting technique. The effects of reaction temperature. reaction time, monomer concentration, and the crosslinkers on the AAc grafting reaction on cellulose were examined. The amount of AAc grafted on the cellulose reached maximum at the concentration of 0.75vol% difunctional crosslinker and 1.0vol% trifunctional crosslinker, respectively. In the presence of acid, the amount of AAc grafted on the cellulose was decreased when reaction solution contains difunctional crosslinker, while that was increased when reaction solution contains trifunctional crosslinker. In the grafting reaction of cellulose with AAc and TMETA, mixture containing ferrous sulfate and acid enhanced further AAc grafting yield than mixture containing ferrous sulfate only.
Multi core-shell composite particles were prepared by the water-born emulsion polymerization of various core monomers such as methyl methacrylate (MMA), ethyl methacrylate (EMA) and shell monomers such as MMA, EMA, 2-hydroxyl ethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA), glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) in the presence of different concentrations of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS). The following conclusions are drawn from the conversion, particle size and distribution, average molecular weight, molecular structure, glass transition temperature with DSC, contact angle after plasma treatment, tensile strength and isothermal decomposition kinetics. In the case of the concentration of 0.02 wt% SDBS, the conversion of MMA core-(EMA/GMA) shell composite particles was excellent as 98.5%. In the case of the concentration of 0.03 wt% SDBS, the particle size of EMA core-(MMA/GMA) shell composite particles was high as $0.48{\mu}m$. We confirmed that 3 points of glass transition temperatures appear for multi core-shell composite particles compared to 1~2 points of glass transition temperatures appear for general copolymer particles. Overall, the adhesion strength of shell composite particles was in the order of EMA/MAA > EMA/2-HEMA > EMA/GMA.
