It is important to have a pipeline leak-detection system that determines the presence of a leak and quickly identifies its location. Current leak detection methods use a acoustic emission sensors, microphone arrays, and camera images. Recently, many researchers have been focusing on using cameras for detecting leaks. The advantage of this method is that it can survey a wide area and monitor a pipeline over a long distance. However, conventional methods using camera monitoring are unable to target an exact leak location. In this paper, we propose a method of detecting leak locations using leak-detection results combined with multi-frame analysis. The proposed method is verified by experiment.
Structural damage detection (SDD) is a challenging task in the field of structural health monitoring (SHM). As an exploring attempt to the SDD problem, a hybrid self-adaptive Firefly-Nelder-Mead (SA-FNM) algorithm is proposed for the SDD problem in this study. First of all, the basic principle of firefly algorithm (FA) is introduced. The Nelder-Mead (NM) algorithm is incorporated into FA for improving the local searching ability. A new strategy for exchanging the information in the firefly group is introduced into the SA-FNM for reducing the computation cost. A random walk strategy for the best firefly and a self-adaptive control strategy of three key parameters, such as light absorption, randomization parameter and critical distance, are proposed for preferably balancing the exploitation and exploration ability of the SA-FNM. The computing performance of the SA-FNM is evaluated and compared with the basic FA by three benchmark functions. Secondly, the SDD problem is mathematically converted into a constrained optimization problem, which is then hopefully solved by the SA-FNM algorithm. A multi-step method is proposed for finding the minimum fitness with a big probability. In order to assess the accuracy and the feasibility of the proposed method, a two-storey rigid frame structure without considering the finite element model (FEM) error and a steel beam with considering the model error are taken examples for numerical simulations. Finally, a series of experimental studies on damage detection of a steel beam with four damage patterns are performed in laboratory. The illustrated results show that the proposed method can accurately identify the structural damage. Some valuable conclusions are made and related issues are discussed as well.
Application of herbicide for rice cropping is inevitable but notorious for its side effect of environmental pollution. Precision fanning will be one of important tools for the least input and sustainable fanning and could be achieved by implementation of the variable rating technology. If a device to detect weeds in rice field is available, herbicide could be applied only to the places where it is needed by the manner of the variable rating technology. The study was carried out to develop an algorithm of image processing to detect weeds in rice field using a machine vision system of multi-spectral digital images. A series of multi-spectral rice field picture of 560, 680 and 800 nm of center wavelengths were acquired from the 27th day to the 39th day after transplanting in the ineffective tillering stage of a rice growing period. A discrimination model to distinguish pixels of weeds from those of rice plant and weed image was developed. The model was proved as having accuracies of 83.6% and 58.9% for identifying the rice plant and the weed, respectively. The model was used in the algorithm to differentiate weed images from mingled images of rice plant and weed in a frame of rice field picture. The developed algorithm was tested with the acquired rice field pictures and resulted that 82.7%, 11.9% and 5.4% of weeds in the pictures were noted as the correctly detected, the undetected and the misclassified as rice, respectively, and 81.9% and 18.0% of rice plants in the pictures were marked as the correctly detected and the misclassified as weed, respectively.
In this paper, we propose a highly precise vehicle detection method with low false alarm using billboard sweep stereo matching and multi-stage hypothesis generation. First, we capture stereo images from cameras established in front of the vehicle and obtain the disparity map in which the regions of ground plane or background are removed using billboard sweep stereo matching algorithm. And then, we perform the vehicle detection and tracking on the labeled disparity map. The vehicle detection and tracking consists of three steps. In the learning step, the SVM(support vector machine) classifier is obtained using the features extracted from the gabor filter. The second step is the vehicle detection which performs the sobel edge detection in the image of the left camera and extracts candidates of the vehicle using edge image and billboard sweep stereo disparity map. The final step is the vehicle tracking using template matching in the next frame. Removal process of the tracking regions improves the system performance in the candidate region of the vehicle on the succeeding frames.
A new robust approach to detect vehicles in a single frame of traffic scenes is presented. The method is based on the multi-level shadow classification, which has been shown to have the capability of extracting correct shadow shapes regardless of the operating conditions. The rationale of this classification is supported by the fact that shadow regions underneath vehicles usually exhibit darker gray level regardless of the vehicle brightness and illuminating conditions. Classified shadows provide string clues on the presence of vehicles. Unlike other schemes, neither background nor temporal information is utilized; thereby the performance is robust to the abrupt change of weather and the traffic congestion. By a simple evidential reasoning, the shadow evidences are combined with bright evidences to locate correct position of vehicles. Experimental results show the missing rate ranges form 0.9% to 7.2%, while the false alarm rate is below 4% for six traffic scenes sets under different operating conditions. The processing speed for more than 70 frames per second could be obtained for nominal image size, which makes the real-time implementation of measuring the traffic parameters possible.
Despite abundant research outcomes of blind source separation (BSS) in many types of simulated environments, their performances are still not satisfactory to be applied to the real environments. The major obstacle may seem the finite filter length of the assumed mixing model and the nonlinear sensor noises. This paper presents a two-step speech enhancement method with multiple microphone inputs. The first step performs a frequency-domain BSS algorithm to produce multiple outputs without any prior knowledge of the mixed source signals. The second step further removes the remaining cross-channel interference by a spectral cancellation approach using a probabilistic source absence/presence detection technique. The desired primary source is detected every frame of the signal, and the secondary source is estimated in the power spectral domain using the other BSS output as a reference interfering source. Then the estimated secondary source is subtracted to reduce the cross-channel interference. Our experimental results show good separation enhancement performances on the real recordings of speech and music signals compared to the conventional BSS methods.

Discriminative correlation filter (DCF) based tracking algorithms have recently shown impressive performance on benchmark datasets. However, amount of recent researches are vulnerable to heavy occlusions, irregular deformations and so on. In this paper, we intend to solve these problems and handle the contradiction between accuracy and real-time in the framework of tracking-by-detection. Firstly, we propose an innovative strategy to combine the template and color-based models instead of a simple linear superposition and rely on the strengths of both to promote the accuracy. Secondly, to enhance the discriminative power of the learned template model, the spatial regularization is introduced in the learning stage to penalize the objective boundary information corresponding to features in the background. Thirdly, we utilize a discriminative multi-scale estimate method to solve the problem of scale variations. Finally, we research strategies to limit the computational complexity of our tracker. Abundant experiments demonstrate that our tracker performs superiorly against several advanced algorithms on both the OTB2013 and OTB2015 datasets while maintaining the high frame rates.

In 3GPP LTE downlink system, initial cell search is essential for mobile station to connect to base station. In order to obtain information of the base station, the mobile station detects frame timing, frequency offset, and cell identification using primary synchronization channel(PSC) and secondary synchronization channel(SSC), which are defined in downlink OFDMA specification. In this paper, we analyze various detection algorithms in practical environment of inter-cell-interference, frequency offset, and multi-path fading channel and propose the optimal algorithm. Simulation results show that partial correlation method (for PSC acquisition) and interference cancellation method (for SSC detection) are the most superior algorithms among the applicable algorithms. Employ these two algorithms for receiver design, initial cell search is performed with 99% probability within 70ms in the channel environment considered.

When there are numerous wireless communication systems co-existing in the limited available frequency resource, an unexpected time delay can be caused during the system switching. So, in order to reduce this time delay, a mode selection method is required. In this paper, we propose a mode selection method to minimize the time delay for multi-system wireless communication systems. For the sake of efficiency, the mode selection method is designed by analyzing the preamble characteristics of different standards. Instead of performing a full search, we propose the preamble partial search to reduce the time delay to a minimum. Simulated with Matlab in an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) environment with a signal to noise ratio(SNR) of 10dB and bit error rate(BER) of $10^{-6}$, we evaluated and showed the performance improvement gained by using our proposed mode selection method.
Recently, digital transformation in manufacturing has been accelerating. It results in that the data collection technologies from the shop-floor is becoming important. These approaches focus primarily on obtaining specific manufacturing data using various sensors and communication technologies. In order to expand the channel of field data collection, this study proposes a method to automatically collect manufacturing data based on vision-based artificial intelligence. This is to analyze real-time image information with the object detection and tracking technologies and to obtain manufacturing data. The research team collects object motion information for each frame by applying YOLO (You Only Look Once) and DeepSORT as object detection and tracking algorithms. Thereafter, the motion information is converted into two pieces of manufacturing data (production performance and time) through post-processing. A dynamically moving factory model is created to obtain training data for deep learning. In addition, operating scenarios are proposed to reproduce the shop-floor situation in the real world. The operating scenario assumes a flow-shop consisting of six facilities. As a result of collecting manufacturing data according to the operating scenarios, the accuracy was 96.3%.
