A Markov Decision Process (MDP) based Load Balancing Algorithm for Multi-cell Networks with Multi-carriers

  • Conventional mobile state (MS) and base station (BS) association based on average signal strength often results in imbalance of cell load which may require more powerful processor at BSs and degrades the perceived transmission rate of MSs. To deal with this problem, a Markov decision process (MDP) for load balancing in a multi-cell system with multi-carriers is formulated. To solve the problem, exploiting Sarsa algorithm of on-line learning type [12], ${\alpha}$-controllable load balancing algorithm is proposed. It is designed to control tradeoff between the cell load deviation of BSs and the perceived transmission rates of MSs. We also propose an ${\varepsilon}$-differential soft greedy policy for on-line learning which is proven to be asymptotically convergent to the optimal greedy policy under some condition. Simulation results verify that the ${\alpha}$-controllable load balancing algorithm controls the behavior of the algorithm depending on the choice of ${\alpha}$. It is shown to be very efficient in balancing cell loads of BSs with low ${\alpha}$.

  • This paper suggests a method for optimal power assignment of the satellite transponder input carriers in the Multi-level & Multi-bandwidth system. The interference and the noise effects analyzed for the optimal power assignment are intermodulation product caused by the nonlinear transponder characteristics, adjacent channel interference, co-channel interference, and thermal noise in the satellite link. The Fletcher- Powell algorithm is used to determine the optimal input carrier power. The performance criteria for optimal power assignment is classified into 4 categories according to the CNR of destination receiver earth station to meet the requirement for various satellite link environment. We have performed mathematical analysis of objective functions and their derivatives for use in the Fletcher-Powell algorithm, and presented various simulation results based on mathematical analysis. Since the satellite link, it is meaningful to model and analyze these effects in a unified manner and present the method for optimal power assignment of transponder input carriers.

Two key features of the multi-carrier CDMA system, carrier selections of new calls and inter-camerhard handoffs, are accommodated in the models, Computation experiments are conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed model.

  • Recently, in power system studies, Multiple Energy Carriers (MECs) such as Energy Hub has been broadly utilized in power system planners and operators. Particularly, Energy Hub performs one of the most important role as the intermediate in implementing the MECs. However, it still needs to be put under examination in both modeling and operating concerns. For instance, a probabilistic optimization model is treated by a robust global optimization technique such as multi-agent genetic algorithm (MAGA) which can support the online economic dispatch of MECs. MAGA also reduces the inevitable uncertainty caused by the integration of selected input energy carriers. However, MAGA only considers current state of the integration of selected input energy carriers in conjunctive with the condition of smart grid environments for decision making in Energy Hub. Thus, in this paper, we propose an immune algorithm based Multiple Energy Carriers System which can adopt the learning process in order to make a self decision making in Energy Hub. In particular, the proposed immune algorithm considers the previous state, the current state, and the future state of the selected input energy carriers in order to predict the next decision making of Energy Hub based on the probabilistic optimization model. The below figure shows the proposed immune algorithm based Multiple Energy Carriers System. Finally, we will compare the online economic dispatch of MECs of two algorithms such as MAGA and immune algorithm based MECs by using Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS).

Digital-Carrier Multi-Band User Codes for Baseband UWB Multiple Access

  • The growing interest towards ultra-wideband (UWB) communications stems from its unique features such as baseband operation, ample multipath diversity, and the potential of enhanced user capacity. But since UWB has to overlay existing narrowband systems, multiple access has to be achieved in the presence of narrowband interference (NBI). However, existing baseband spreading codes for UWB multiple access are not flexible in handling NBI. In this paper, we introduce two novel spreading codes that not only enable baseband UWB multiple access, but also facilitate flexible NBI cancellation. We construct our codes using a single carrier or multiple carriers (SC or MC), which can be implemented with standard discrete-cosine transform (DCT) circuits. With our SC/MC codes, NBI can be avoided by simply nulling undesired digital carriers. Being digital, these SC/MC codes give rise to multiband UWB systems, without invoking analog carriers. In addition, our SC/MC codes enable full multipath diversity, and maximum coding gains. Equally attractive is their capability to reduce the number of interfering users, with simple matched filter operations. Comprehensive simulations are also carried out to corroborate our analysis.

  • 해상데이터통신은 아직 전송률과 비용의 제약으로 새로운 체계가 요청된다. 육상의 광대역접속기술들을 해상에서 최대한 활용하기 위하여 제안되는 자율망 모델에서 개별 링크별로 최적의 캐리어를 선택하여 전송성능을 최적화하는 경로배정방식을 제안한다. 이 방식은 각 링크별로 응용과 캐리어의 전송특성을 정규화된 값으로 최적 노드와 캐리어를 찾아 최적경로를 선택하는(MCS-NTC) 방식이다. 전송특성의 구체적인 값을 서로 비교하는 최다승방식(OMH-MW)과 성능을 비교하였다. 이를 통해 이 논문에서 제안하는 MCS-NTC 방식이 여러 전송특성(대역폭, 비용, 지연시간, 홉수, 캐리어수)과 경로탐색시간 측면에서 기존 방식에 비해 더 효율적인 경로를 형성함을 확인할 수 있었다.

Genetic Algorithm-Based Coordinated Replenishment in Multi-Item Inventory Control

  • We herein consider a stochastic multi-item inventory management problem in which a warehouse sells multiple items with stochastic demand and periodic replenishment from a supplier. Inventory management requires the timing and amounts of orders to be determined. For inventory replenishment, trucks of finite capacity are available. Most inventory management models consider either a single item or assume that multiple items are ordered independently, and whether there is sufficient space in trucks. The order cost is commonly calculated based on the number of carriers and the usage fees of carriers. In this situation, we can reduce future shipments by supplementing items to an order, even if the item is not scheduled to be ordered. On the other hand, we can reduce the average number of items in storage by reducing the order volume and at the risk of running out of stock. The primary variables of interest in the present research are the average number of items in storage, the stock-out volume, and the number of carriers used. We formulate this problem as a multi-objective optimization problem. In a numerical experiment based on actual shipment data, we consider the item shipping characteristics and simulate the warehouse replenishing items coordinately. The results of the simulation indicate that applying a conventional ordering policy individually will not provide effective inventory management.

  • As the number of CDMA subscribers increases, CDMA systems utilize more than one CDMA carrier In order to accommodate Increasing capacity requirement. In this paper, we present a new analytical method for evaluating the Erlang capacity of CDMA systems with multiple CDMA carriers. in the case of the algorithm proposed in 〔5〕, the calculation complexity for evaluating the call blocking probability Is increased proportionally to the sixth power of the number of used CDMA carriers when the CDMA system supports voice and data services. Consequently, It is Impractical to calculate Erlang capacity with the algorithm of 〔5〕especially when the number of used CDMA carriers is larger than 3. To resolve this problem, we propose a new analytical method for evaluating the Erlang capacity. The calculation complexity of the proposed method for evaluating call blocking probability is increased just proportionally to the second power of the number of used CDMA carriers when the CDMA systems support voice and data services.

  • 해상에서 데이터통신은 전통적으로 위성과 RF로 이루어진다. 그러나 전송률과 비용의 제약으로 새로운 통신체계를 필요로 한다. 최근 육상의 광대역 캐리어를 해상에서 활용하고자하는 노력이 경주되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 자율망 기반의 해상통신망 모델에서 다양한 육상의 캐리어를 해상에 적용한 경로배정방식을 새롭게 제안한다. 그것은 응용과 캐리어의 전송특성의 정규화된 값에 의한 최적 캐리어를 찾은 후 그 캐리어에 의한 최적경로를 선택하는(NTCR) 방식으로 기존의 최다승방식(MWR)과 성능을 비교하였다.

  • 본 논문은 다중경로 라이시안 페이딩과 다중접속간섭이 함께 존재하는 단일 셀 내의 Multi-Carrier DS-CDMA 시스템은 오율 성능을 분석하고, 이를 Single-Carrier Ds-CDMA 시스템의 오율 성능과 비교하였다. 또한, 다중경로 페이딩과 다중접속간섭에 의하여 열화된 Multi-Carrier DS-CDMA 시스템의 성능 개선을 위해 부호화율이 1/2, 1/3 그리고 1/4인 콘볼루션 부호화 기법을 채용하여, 이로부터 얻어지는 Multi-Carrier DS-CDMA 시스템의 성능 특성을 알아 보았다. 분석 결과, 다중경로 페이딩과 다중접속간섭이 존재하는 채널에서 Single-Carrier DS-CDMA 시스템의 RAKE 수신기의 가지를 증가시키거나 Multi-Carrier DS-CDMA 시스템의 반송파의 수를 적정하게 선택함으로써 시스템의 사용자의 수를 결정할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 콘볼루션 부호가 적용된 Multi-Carrier CS-CCMA 시스템은 부호이득과 전력제한의 사이의 trade off를 고려하여 부호화율을 선택하여야 함을 알 수 있었다. 결과적으로 Multi-Carrier DS-CDMA 시스템은 반송파의 수가 증가할수록 처리이득은 감소하나 주파수 다이버시티 효과로 인하여 오율 성능이 개선되었으며, 낮은 칩율을 사용한 시스템의 구성이 가능함을 알 수 있었다.
