A CASE REPORT OF BRANCHIAL CLEFT CYST IN THE NECK (경부에 발생한 새열낭 (branchial cleft cyst)의 증례보고)

  • Branchial cleft cyst is the most common lateral neck cyst; the vast majority are of the second branchial cleft origin. This presumably reflects the greater depth and longer persistence of the second cleft, compared with the first, third, and fourth clefts. We experienced a 49-year-old male whose chief complaint was a abnormal mass of the left parotid gland area and neck. As a result of careful analysis of clinical, radiological, and histopathological findings, we diagnosed it as a second branchial cleft cyst in the neck and obtained results as follows: 1. In clinical examination, there was a 10×15㎝ sized, fluctuant painful mass in the left neck and parotid area. 2. In radiographic examination, a low echogenic mass with internal cystic change in the inferior parotid gland area was noted sonographically. Computed tomograph showed a 3×4㎝ sized, well-defined cystic mass with heterogenous solid component in the anterior border of sternocleidomastoid muscle. MRI revealed 5×6㎝ sized, well-marginated multi separated mass in the same area. 3. In histopathological examination, lining of cyst was stratified squamous epithelium with typical lymph node pattern and inflammatory cell infiltration.

Reconstruction of Full Thickness Ala Defect with Nasolabial Fold and Septal Mucosal Hinge Flap

  • Reconstruction of a full-thickness alar defect requires independent blood supplies to the inner and outer surfaces. Because of this, secondary operations are commonly needed for the division of skin flap from its origin. Here, we report a single-stage reconstruction of full-thickness alar defect, which was made possible by the use of a nasolabial island flap and septal mucosal hinge flap. A 49-year-old female had presented with a squamous cell carcinoma of the right ala which was invading through the mucosa. The lesion was excised with a 5-mm free margin through the full-thickness of ala. The lining and cartilage was restored using a septal mucosa hinge flap and a conchal cartilage from the ipsilateral ear. The superficial surface was covered with a nasolabial island flap based on a perforator from the angular artery. The three separate tissue layers were reconstructed as a single subunit, and no secondary operations were necessary. Single-stage reconstruction of the alar subunit was made possible by the use of a nasolabial island flap and septal mucosal hinge flap. Further studies are needed to compare long-term outcomes following single-stage and multi-stage reconstructions.

  • This paper describes a triple-input energy harvesting circuit using solar, vibration and thermoelectric energy with MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) control. The designed circuit employs MPPT control to harvest maximum power available from a solar cell, PZT vibration element and thermoelectric generator. The harvested energies are simultaneously combined and stored in a storage capacitor, and then managed and transferred into a sensor node by PMU(Power Management Unit). MPPT controls are implemented using the linear relation between the open-circuit voltage of an energy transducer and its MPP(Maximum Power Point) voltage. The proposed circuit is designed in a CMOS 0.18um technology and its functionality has been verified through extensive simulations. The designed chip occupies $945{\mu}m{\times}995{\mu}m$.

Polyoxyethylene Tocopheryl Ethers; A Series of Novel Surfactants from Tocopherol for Functional Cosmetics (토코페롤에서 유도된 기능성 화장품용의 새로운 계면 활성제)

  • A new and unique class of nonionic surfactants was synthesized by reacting biological a-tocopherol with ethylene oxide for functional cosmetics. The structures were confirmed by Hl-UMR, FT-lR, TLC and elemental analysis. POV and conjugated diene value study for EPO showed POE(n)TE had antioxidative effect similar to tocopheryl acetate Protective effect on cell membrane in photohemolysis of POE(5)TE, POE(10)TE and POE(18)TE were slightly lower than tocopherol but higher than nonoxynol-12, and POE(10)TE had UV absorption power comparable with tocopherol and homosalate. Biological activity of the hydrophobic group of the new surfactants make them unique and different from those of conventional nonionic surfactants Systematic safety evaluations of POE(n)TEs on the skin and eye proved that they are as safe as tocopherol. The results of physicochemical study showed POE(10)TE had the lowest CMC value, POE(18)TE had the maximum surface tension reduction and the highest foam volume and POE(n)TEs had various HLB values by the degree of ethoxylation. The test resul Is of technological and practical applications of these surfactants for cosmetics showed some POE(n)TEs were superior to conventional surfactants. POE(5)TE in W/O emulsions, POE(10)TE and POE(12)TE in O/W emulsions, POE(12)TE in dispersions, POE(18)TE in solubilizations and POE(50)TE in gelations were shown to be excellent which was considered due to the structural characteristic and formation of liquid crystals of POE(n)TEs. By the development and applications of these excel lent multi-functional surfactants, innovative functional cosmetics were successfully formulated.

  • In this paper, we proposed an efficient hardware architecture of line-based lifting algorithm for Motion JPEG2000. We proposed a new architecture of a lifting-based filtering cell which has an optimized and simplified structure. It was implemented in a hardware accommodating both (9,7) and (5,4) filter. Since the output rate is linearly proportional to the input rate, one can obtain the high throughput through parallel operation simply by adding the hardware units. It was implemented into both of ASIC and FPGA The 0.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS library from Samsung was used for ASIC and Altera was the target for FRGA. In ASIC, the proposed architecture used 41,592 gates for the lifting arithmetic and 128 Kbit memory. For FPGA it used 6,520 LEs(Logic Elements) and 128 ESBs(Embedded System Blocks). The implementations were stably operated in the clock frequency of 128MHz and 52MHz, respectively.

  • An analytical system has been established for scrutinizing both uranium- and plutonium-fueled lattices moderated by light water. This system consists of two primary codes. One is a unit cell program called KICC, which has theoretical foundation on the models of GAM and THERMOS incorporated with appropriate approximate treatments for various phenomena, whereas the other is a multi-dimensional diffusion-depletion program entitled KIDD. The adequacy of this system is verified by performing extensive benchmark calculations on a variety of critical experiments. The average value of effective multiplication factors for the selected nineteen UO$_2$ critical experiments of heterogeneous lattice structure is calculated to be 1.0006 with a standard deviation of 0.0039. Power distributions have also been calculated for some critical experiments fueled with both uranium and plutonium of varying concentrations. The maximum percentage difference between the measured and calculated power distributions appears to be less than 5%. This result, together with the previously reported result, illustrates that the KICC/KIDD system is a very effective tool for the analysis of a light water reactor core.

  • Bio-sensing devices, which are basically integrated and miniaturized assay systems consisted of bioreceptor and signal transducer, are advantageous in several ways. In addition to their high sensitivity, selectivity, simplicity, multi-detection capability, and real time detection abilities, they are both very small and require relatively inexpensive equipments. Two core technologies are required to develop bio-sensing devices; the fabrication of biological receptor module (both of receptor development and immobilisation of them) and the development of signal transducing instruments containing signal generation technique. Various biological receptors, such as enzymes, DNA/RNA, protein, and cell were tried to develop bio-sensing devices. And, the signal transducing instruments have also been extensively studied, especially with regard to electrochemical, optical, and mass sensitive transducers. This article addresses bio-sensing devices that have been developed in the past few years, and also discusses possible future major trends in these devices.

  • This paper analyzed the ground bounce caused by the power plane resonance in the multilayered printed circuit board(PCB) using the Haar-wavelet-based Multiresolution Time-Domain (MRTD). In conventional Finite-Difference Time-Domain(FDTD), the highly fine vertical cell is needed to represent the distance between $V_{cc}$ plane and ground plane since the two planes are very close. Therefore the time step $\Deltat$ must be very small to satisfy the stability condition. As a result, a large number of iterations are needed to obtain the response in wanted time. For this problem, this paper showed that the computation time can be reduced by application of the MRTD method. The results obtained by the MRTD agree very well with those by FDTD method and analytic solutions. In conclusion, this paper proved the efficiency and accuracy of MRTD method for analyzing the EMI/EMC problems in PCB.

  • In this paper, a high-power and low-loss stripline 10-way power divider is designed and fabricated fur the feed network of an S-band linear array antenna with Chebyshev current distribution which has a narrow beam width and low side lobe level(SLL) of 35 dB or more. The unit cell of the power divider is based on a T-junction power divider and the whole divider is comprised of the cascaded unit cells. The multi-stage impedance transformer and modified ring hybrid are used in designing the power divider for performance improvement. And the reflection loss and insertion loss are improved by modifying a connector structure for a coaxial-to-stripline transition.

A Study on Spectrum Moment Estimation in an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP에서의 스펙트럼 모멘트 추정에 관한 연구)

  • The current velocity and turbulence information in each range cell can be obtained from the first and second Doppler spectrum moment estimates. However, the very widely used correlation method often called as the pulse-pair method has the inherent restrictions under the highly turbulent conditions since it does not satisfy the assumptions that the return Doppler spectrum should be symmetric and have a single peak value. Therefore, in this paper, the quality of pulse-pair estimates were compared with that of FFT estimates for problem analysis using various shapes of simulated Doppler spectra. It can be known that the pulse-pair method often yields meaningless results if the received signals are severely biased or multi-peak Doppler spectra in the Doppler frequency domain.
