Herniation of intervertevral disc(HIVD) is the most common disease causing low back pain. Acupuncture, electroacupuncture and moxibustion has been used for treatment of HIVD. Bee venom (BV) also has been traditionally applied to relieve pain. Recently, it has been reported that BV is effective in treating HIVD. But more objective methods were required to assess the efficacy of BV on HlVD. So we assessed of BV-acupuncture effect on herniated disc patients by use of rating scale for low back pain. We researched 22 patients who were treated at Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Kyung Hee Medical Center from January 1999 to June 1999. The patients were diagnosed by MRI as having a herniated disc. The results of treatment using rating scale for low back pain in HIVD showed that $43.77{\pm}14.39$ point of pre-treatment score and $84.5{\pm}3.97$ point post-treatment score. The improvement index showed $0.43{\pm}0.15$. Especially, clinical score of neurologic deficits showed most highest improvement index of $0.7{\pm}0.45$. Assessment of BV-acupuncture Effect by MRI finding were showed that protruded disc and extruded disc got more higher improvement index than bulging disc. Among 22 patients, satisfactory assessment of BV-acupuncture effect showed that 15(68.2%) were excellent, and 7(31.8%) were good. The result suggest that BV-acupuncture is good method for treatment of HIVD.

We also incorporated feedback from field hospital experiences with the help of hospital staffs. Results : This device can prevent damages from skin burn and fire accidents, and control the smoke, smell and residue of moxa itself. Conclusions : This study will contribute for the development and improvement of efficacious and safe treatment methods for the traditional Korean medicine.
Objectives : This study was designed to investigate the effects of acupuncturing $PC_8$ used perpendicular needling method determine the mechanism of action of acupuncturing $PC_8$ by measuring the changes of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) in normal rats. Methods : This study also investigated the effects of acupuncturing $PC_8$ on the change of rCBF in cerebral ischemic rats, and revealed the mechanism of its action. In addition, the effects of acupuncturing $PC_8$ on focal ischemic brain injury was studied in cerebral ischemic rats. Results : 1. Acupuncturing $PC_8$ significantly increase rCBF but decreased MABP in normal rats. 2. Acupuncturing $PC_8$ increased of rCBF was significantly inhibited by pretreatment with indomethacin (1mg/kg, i.p.), an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase in normal rats. 3. Acupuncturing $PC_8$ increased of rCBF was significantly inhibited by pretreatment methylene blue (10 ${\mu}g$/kg, i.p.), an inhibitor of guanylate cyclase in normal rats. 4. Acupuncturing $PC_8$ was significantly improved the rCBF than control group increased unstable in cerebral ischemic rats. 5. Acupuncturing $PC_8$ was not significantly improved the rCBF than control group by pretreatment with indomethacin (1mg/kg, i.p.), an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase in cerebral ischemic rats. 6. Acupuncturing $PC_8$ was significantly increased the rCBF than control group by pretreatment methylene blue ($10{\mu}g$/kg, i.p.), an inhibitor of guanylate cyclase in cerebral ischemic rats. Conclusions : In conclusion, our study suggested that acupuncturing $PC_8$ can increase rCBF in normal state, and improve stability of rCBF in ischemic state. In addition, we suggested that mechanisms related with acupuncturing $PC_8$ was involved in the guanylate cyclase pathway.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate recent clinical studies on the effects of acupuncture on dementia. Method: We searched RCTs (randomized controlled trials) using the database PubMed (2000-2018). Clinical RCT studies of acupuncture used to treat dementia in humans were included. Nine randomized controlled trials were included. Results: Various acupoints such as Baihui (GV20), Sishencong (EX-HN1), Fengchi (GB20), and Shenting (GV24) were used to treat symptoms. The studies reported a decrease in evaluation criteria, such as the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and activities of daily living (ADL), for measuring cognitive ability. The acupuncture process, the results for outcome measure, and the effectiveness of studies were analyzed. We then assessed "risk of bias." Conclusions: Through this review, we found that acupuncture is applicable for the treatment of dementia. This can be used for future study.
9Objective : We carried out this experimental study in order to investigate the effect of Chaenomelis Fructus(木瓜) extract and herbal-acupuncture on the arthritis induced by injecting Freund's complete adjuvant Method : 1. We categorized SD-rats into five groups as followings. (1) Control: Without any Treat (2) Treat I: treated by acupuncture (3) Treat II: treated by drinking 5% saline (4) Treat III: treated by drinking Chaenomelis Fructus(木瓜) extract (5) Treat IV: treated by Chaenomelis Fructus(木瓜) herbal-acupuncture 2. We established ten items for decision of experimental results as followings Edema rate, Pain endurance, WBC, Hemoglobin, Platelet, Total protein, Albumin, Globulin, RA factor, CRP Results : The groups that showed significant effects compared with Contol group were explained as followings. 1. Edema rate : Treat I , Treat III 2. Pain endurance : Treat I, Treat IV 3. WBC : Treat IV 4. Hemoglobin : Treat III 5. Plat99elet : Treat IV 6. Total protein : Treat I, Treat IV 7. Albumin : None 8. Globulin : Treat I, Treat IV 9. RA factor : Treat I, Treat IV 10. CRP : Treat IV Conclusion : Observing above experimental results, we can guess that the effects of acupuncture and Chaenomelis Fructus(木瓜) herbal-acupuncture on Freund's adjuvant arthritis are more superior than other ways. In addition, we can find that the latter is more better than the former in effect by two items(platelet, CRP).
Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of low frequency electro-acupuncture at ST39 on intestinal motility in rats. Methods : Intestinal hypermotility and hypomotility in rats were induced by oral carbachol ingestion and loperamide injection. Rats were divided into seventeen experimental groups including the normal and holder groups. The rats were induced with intestinal hypermotility and hypomotility and divided into pre and post-treatment groups. I also carried out acupuncture (needle retention) and low frequency electro-acupuncture at ST39 or the sham point. I fed charcoal to rats after the treatment and calculated its distance travelled in the gastrointestinal tract, which was compared by groups so as to determine which treatment was more effective in increasing or decreasing intestinal motility. Results : 1. In normal rats, low frequency electro-acupuncture at ST39 showed no significant effect on intestinal motility. 2. Pre-treatment with acupuncture (needle retention) at ST39 on intestinal motility over-activated with carbachol significantly decreased intestinal motility in rats. 3. Pre-treatment with low frequency electro-acupuncture at ST39 on intestinal motility over-activated with carbachol significantly decreased intestinal motility in rats. 4. Pre-treatment with acupuncture (needle retention and low frequency electro-acupuncture) at ST39 showed no significant effect on intestinal hypomotility in rats that was induced by loperamide injection. Conclusions : These results suggest that acupuncture (needle retention) and low frequency electro-acupuncture at ST39 have preventive effects on intestinal hypermotility. Regardless of the stimulation method, ST39 showed an effect on intestinal motility. Further study is required to confirm other effects of ST39.
Among a number of factors related to the effect of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment, prescriptions do important work. Traditional eastern doctors also placed emphasis on prescriptions of acupuncture and moxibustion, and a lot of experiences have been accumulated. The method forms prescriptions of Sa-am acupuncture therapy pivots on five transport points. Studies show prescriptions are made on the basis of the theory of 'Wang Xiang Xiu Qiu Si'(旺相休囚死) used engendering and restraining of five phases, and it is considered the principle of transformed prescriptions through this theory. Because there is still no study analyzing prescriptions of Sa-am acupuncture by existing principles, we report opinion about Combination principle of points in them. 1. We studied history of acupuncture and moxibustion, development and kinds of points' Combination principle. 2. Around Combination principles of points in Classic of Difficult Issues and Internal Classic, we analyzed and compared between Combination principles of points in Sa-am acupuncture therapy and them in Korea and overall acupuncture methods. 1. There were many Combination principles of acupunture point combination in Classic of Difficult Issues, Internal Classic and Korea acupuncture methods. For example, Point combination of the same meridian, Point combination of the different meridian, Exterior-Interior point combination, Point combination of the same name meridian, Point combination of the multiple meridian, Point combination of Adjacent and Distant points, Left-Right point combination, Anterior-Posterior point combination, Superior-Inferior point combination, Brook point and Stream point combination, Triple energizer point combination, Eight meeting point combination, Five transport point combination, Source-Connecting point combination, Alram point and Transport point combination, Mother-Sun meridian combination, Empirical point combination, Important point combination, Point combination according to syndrome. 2. Existing Combination principles of points in prescriptions of Sa-am acupuncture therapy included every rule. 3. They could be evidences that prescriptions of Sa-am acupuncture therapy are forms inheriting and developing acupuncture and moxibustion treatments.
Objective : This research carried out to find out the effective efficiency of acupuncture at ST36 GB39 and herbal-acupuncture using different concentrational Uris Fel Bovis Calculus on adjuvant arthritis in rats. Method : In this study, I do acupuncture treatment and herbal-acupuncture in ST36 GB39 by solution that diluted to fivefold and tenfold with combined solution of Bovis Calcuclus and Ursi Fel at 10:1. And then I observed the change of inhibitory rate of paw edema, body weight, hematologic assay, histologic assay. Result : 1. In Adjuvant Arthritis in rats, the herbal-acupuncture group 1 is more efficienct then acupuncture group. 2. In histologic assay of knee joint, synovial cell and fibroblast markedly activated in herbal-acupuncture group. 3. The albumin level in serum more markedly increased in herbal-acupuncture group 2 than the control group. 4. The paw edema significantly decreased in acupuncture group and herbal-acupuncture group 2 compared with the control group. 5. The body weight significantly increased in acupuncture group and herbal-acupuncture group 2 compared with the control group. Conclusion : In these results, The herbal-acupuncture using Ursi Fel, Bovis Calculus, suppress inflammation of Adjuvant Arthritis, and decrease markedly the count of WBC, and increase the albumin level in serum, and have an influence on Adjuvant Arthritis with activating of synovial cell, fibroblast. And these were more effective than the others, and then needed consistent study of its mechanism.
