  • In this study, nonlinear flow-induced vibration(flutter) analyses of a 2-DOF launch vehicle airfoil have been conducted in supersonic and hypersonic flow regimes. Advanced aeroelastic analysis system based on computational fluid dynamics and computational structural dynamics is successfully developed and applied to the present analyses. Nonlinear unsteady aerodynamic analyses considering strong shock wave motions are conducted using inviscid Euler equations. Aeroelastic governing equations for the 2-DOF airfoil system is solved by the coupled integration method with interactive CFD and CSD computation procedures. Typical wedge type airfoil shapes with initial angle-of-attacks are considered to investigate the nonlinear flutter characteristics in supersonic(15). Also, the comparison of detailed aeroelastic responses are practically presented as numerical results.

  • Numerical analysis for slamming impact phenomena has been carried out when 2-dimensional wedge shaped structure with finite deadrise angles enter the free surface by using a commertial CFD code, FLUENT. Fluid is assumed incompressible and entry speed of the structure is kept constant. Geo-reconstruct scheme (or PLIC-VOF scheme) is used for the tracking of the deforming free surface. User defined function of 6 degrees of freedom motion and moving dynamic mesh option are used for the expression of the downward motion of the structure and deforming of unstructured meshes adjacent to the structure. The magnitude and the location of impact pressure and the total drag force which is the summation of pressures distributed at the bottom of the structure are analyzed. Results of the analysis show good agreement with the results of similarity solution, asymptotic solution and the solution of BEM.

  • There is cattle shed and house structure of a country village in the vicinity of the construction site. that is why the environmental effect evaluation on blasting had been done in advance to prevent any harm to those from the work. As the result, it is impossible to apply to the blasting method, and the Super wedge method, a kind of a rock-splitting method which there is no secondary breaking by a breaker of the methods breaking &excavating rock according to the classification of the blasting method by the ministry of construction & transpotation, applied to decrease noise and vibration, and to the work classification, the extent of noise and vibration measured with the instrument only for noise(SC-310c) and with the instrument only for vibration(BLASTMATE) respectively. A drilling, splitting, collecting, loading works at the closest point(about 10m) is barely possible on the consideration of vibration to the result of measurement, but carefulness needs on moving of equipment. On the case of noise, even drilling, collecting, loading work except splitting at the comparatively close point(about 20m) is difficult. So, the method breaking &excavating rock according to the classification of the blasting method by the ministry of construction & transpotation has to apply in consideration of noise level in accordance with the work processing.

  • This paper provides a novel extended Moving Least Squares(MLS) difference method for the potential problem with weak and strong discontinuities. The conventional MLS difference method is enhanced with jump functions such as step function, wedge function and scissors function to model discontinuities in the solution and the derivative fields. When discretizing the governing equations, additional unknowns are not yielded because the jump functions are decided from the known interface condition. The Poisson type PDE's are discretized by the difference equations constructed on nodes. The system of equations built up by assembling the difference equations are directly solved, which is very efficient. Numerical examples show the excellence of the proposed numerical method. The method is expected to be applied to various discontinuity related problems such as crack problem, moving boundary problem and interaction problems.

  • The paper aims at illustrating several key issues and ongoing efforts for development of a reliable fully-Lagrangian particle-based solver for simulation of hydroelastic slamming. Fluid model is founded on the solution of Navier-Stokes along with continuity equations via an enhanced version of a projection-based particle method, namely, Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method. The fluid model is carefully coupled with a structure model on the basis of conservation of linear and angular momenta for an elastic solid. The developed coupled FSI (Fluid-Structure Interaction) solver is applied to simulations of high velocity impact of an elastic aluminum wedge and hydroelastic slammings of marine panels. Validations are made both qualitatively and quantitatively in terms of reproduced pressure as well as structure deformation. Several remaining challenges as well as important key issues are highlighted. At last, a recently developed multi-scale MPS method is incorporated in the developed FSI solver towards enhancement of its adaptivity.

  • The present study analyzed the variation factors in inducing a salinity change using the existing observation network in the section between the Nakdong River Estuary Barrage and Changnyeong-Haman Weir, and also examined the seasonal changes in precipitation, salinity, and discharge. Furthermore, this study analyzed the causes of a salinity increase by collecting observational data during a period when abnormal salinity occurred, and further investigated the salinity transfer time in a section of approximately 5.3 km from the Nakdong River Estuary Barrage to Nakdong River Bridge to understand the behavioral characteristics of the salinity moving upstream. The study results would make it possible to control the increase in salinity and block salt water from moving upstream by understanding the salinity variation characteristics according to the discharge amount. This will provide stability in collecting water from various residential, agricultural, and industrial sources through water intake facilities scattered near the Nakdong River Estuary Barrage.

  • This paper describes a measuring device of glass thickness using machine vision and image processing techniques on real-time. Today, the machine vision enable to inspect fast and exactly than human's eyes. The presented system has advantages of continuous measurement, flexibility and good accuracy. The system consists of a laser diode, a CCD camera with PC. The camera located on the opposite side of the incident beam measures the distance between two reflected laser beams from the glass top and bottom surface. We apply a binary algorithm to convert and analyze the image from camera to PC. Laser point coordination by border tracing algorithm is used to find the center of beam circle. The measured result was compared with micrometer and showed 0.002mm accuracy. Finally, the errors were discussed how to minimize the influence of glass wedge angle and angular error of moving stage.

  • As the high speed railroad line increases, researches on developing a more economic high speed railroad bridge system have been actively conducted. In this paper, a new type of prestressed concrete girder based on the bi-prestressing technique, which can introduce additional prestress, is presented. The additional prestress can be introduced using a wedge-shaped pin bar into the upper part of the girder section. The applicability of the new girder technique to the high speed railroad bridge is verified via the dynamic stability analysis. Dynamic moving load analyses using the KTX train load are conducted on bridge systems with the span lengths of 30m, 35m, and 40m, respectively. The results of the analysis show that all bridge systems satisfy the limits prescribed in the design specifications to ensure structural stability, driving safety, and ride quality.

  • This paper presents the characteristics of internal clearances for the interstage of blades and shaft gland seals on the steam turbine which are installed in tandem compound. Internal clearances was changed when the rotor turned in the cylindrical sleeve bearing due to the generation of oil film wedge. This presented concern is very useful to prevent the rubbing damage of seal edge between the fixed and moving parts in steam turbine due to the misalignment at the rotating and stationary parts. This method is applied for the unbalanced clearances distribution to the left and right sides in the turbine casing. A considerable amount of unbalanced clearances distribution trend is determined according to the rotating speed of rotor, size and type of proceeding bearing, oil viscosity, surface roughness of bearing and shaft, oil temperature, oil pressure and bearing load.

  • Surveying rocks for engineering aims for prediction of geological feature of the construction site. Conventionally, survey information at outcrops and bore holes are projected to the construction sites, such as tunnel and slopes, and rock properties of the sites are predicted by interpretations of specialists. This system, the "Fracjection", aims to assist the specialist for visualization of the projected fractures from borehole and outcrop survey. The Fracjection accepts the BIPS and outcrop survey data to its database and allows plotting them in AutoCad map. The software also reads elevation data from contours of the topographic map and constructs DEM of the construction sites. With user's guide, it generates 3D excavation sites such as slopes and tunnels at the topographic map. The s/w projects borehole and outcrop surveyed fractures onto the modeled excavation surface and allows analysis of failure criteria, such as plane, wedge, and toppling failures by built-in stereonet function. Projected fractures can further be analyzed for structural homogeneities and rock mass quality. Moving window style correlation comparison of stereonet plots are used for formal analyses, and RQD type counts of the projected fractures are adopted for the latter analyses.
